I bounced off of Factorio about 3 or 4 times in the past. I would get to oil and get overwhelmed. But in one play through I decided I had to at least launch a rocket, no matter how long it took me, and once I launched the rocket, something just clicked. Now I find myself always coming back to the game because it is such an incredible and satisfying experience!
Yes! I am with you! I almost bounced off with the tutorial, but I knew people raved about it, so I kept on and learned a bunch from commenters. Once I started to get it more, it is actually now a soothing experience haha
I’ve played a lot of games over the years, but there’s something about Factorio that really draws me in and keeps me interested. I think it is a genius design of a game and so fun once things start clicking and you find out how creative you can be
You should look into the expansion probably release near the end of the year , spaced out. Plus it’s launching with factorio version “2.0” maybe August or later , it’s going to be incredible
Ive had the same criticism about this game however, thinking about what I would do to make it better I honestly don't know how to improve the UI. I've made many 2+ rocket per minute factories and what I felt the need was a input/output monitor for certain production sectors (circuits for example). There's a lot o quality of life mods that could be implemented in the base game but still ... Factorio could cost 100 and would still be the most reasonable cost to return game I've ever played
I played factorio for the first time in 2015 or 2016 in the 0,13 version and came back from time to time, the changes and optimization for the game in the years are insane and I cant be objetive on the game as I love it.
Bought this game 2 weeks ago. Haven't been able to get off of it. Your beginners guide has been a massive help. I definitely agree an (A) is a fair rating for this game.
I like the railroad map settings. You get biters and biter attacks if your pollution reaches them, but once you wipe out the nests, they're gone. They're not coming back. So it gives a purpose for the black science and makes expansion interesting/a bit challenging, but doesn't eliminate the reason for them existing.
I have picked backup Factorio just this week after two years away. It really is a calming and enjoyable creative/puzzle. Where you can make your base as you want it. I actually like the graphics styling, it isn't trying too hard. it is functional... just like the game itself. In addition, I didn't need to buy the latest GPU/CPU PC to run the game. It is endlessly enjoyable. Finally, unlike all the fighting/shooting games where the learning curve is skill with controllers. This is learning knowledge, which I much prefer. If you can play a game for 500+ hours then it cannot be anything less than an A.
I played deep games like factorio my whole life. And I never seen a game that has that much quality of life features. The devs did A LOT about it and are surpassing my expectations with the new QOL features coming in 2.0 on 21 october. For the learning curve, I wont really see that as a way of "rating" the game because its a personal opinion, some like high curves / high rewards, some prefer the opposite.
I bounced off this game many times. Had like 12 hours played and never started anything beyond the tutorial, lol. Then I watched your beginner's guide (only up to episode 5 right now) but your guide really helped the general concept of the game click in my brain. Also, the way you say the key binding every time you use it has made me proficient with the controls in this game more so than games I have 100s of hours in. Really appreciate the help, and can't suggest your beginner's guide series strongly enough.
Oh wonderful! I'm so glad you have found the guide series to be helpful :D Yeah--I almost bounced off of this too but some great viewers really helped me get into it haha
I got this game about a year ago and I have never regretted my purchase. If I was to describe Factorio to another person it would sound like a dull and boring experience, but when you sit down and play it, the time just flys by. You solve a problem, then expand, then solve another problem ad infinitum. I have spend hundreds of hours playing this and god know how many more I’ve spend watching other people play to make me a better engineer. This game isn’t perfect but it’s really, really good.
What I do with the biter question, I set expansion off and set the starting size to max. I find this gives me some time in the early game to build up fairly well and forces me to expand quickly depending on the map, I could have a ton of time or I could have maybe 8 hours until my pollution hits a nest or two.
Even from the start, I tended to play modded Factorio, lazy b_stard as much as possible (not possible with all mods - such as Pyanodon's mod which I will be playing for the next year or three). I finally finished an unmodded game two years ago. Once you get past the understanding of the oil processing, unmodded is fairly easy. But with modded, there is ALWAYS a challenge for you, with or without biters. And if you like fighting biters, you can upgrade them with settings or mods. Want to play a ribbonworld? Can do. Sea Block, starting from one tile with some landfill and resouces and having to gather or "mine" almost all resouces from the water (there are some small islands with plants you need later)... can do. Want to explore space and other planets and strip mine them? Space Exploration is for you. Want to use programmable automated miners that trundle across the landscape mining, and have programmable "tanks", machine gun vehicles and spidertrons clearing the biters in an assigned area with minimal direction from you? AAI. Want an extremely complex (often realistic but not always) production chain that can take months of daily play to complete? Pyanodons, Krastorio 1 & 2, Angels mod... and the always fun Bob's mods are for you. There are many more game changing mods... And many can be mixed (Angel's/Bob's - a version of this is used in Sea Block). This is a game that will give you DECADES of game play.
I'm a bit surprised about the criticisms about the UI tbh, but that's coming from one of those with 4 digit hours. The UI is subtle and yet extremely informative, the vast majority of problems are visible from the immediate UI, if something isn't running you get a lot of clues from the UI in a non intrusive way (is the input lacking, is the machine backed up, does it have power, what is the orientation, fluid input and output and so on). My personal opinion is that the UI is generally masterfully done, though I can see that it's hard to find all this information if you're not trained to look for it. The tutorial could be better at reiterating the crucial UI tips that are typically mentioned once. I've seen videos of people playing the tutorial forgetting everything within 5 seconds and continue to never read the tooltips and doesn't try mousing over stuff to see what it does. Edit: It's worth a mention that it's old-school in the way that it has a demo that contains the tutorial so you can test it out without buying it.
Great video 💙 but you should definitely mention the fact that it’s first expansion is being released this year, especially since this is a review for people in 2024 🤓💙
I say it's the perfect time to buy this gem. The devs are extremely lazy. I mean, they are selling absolute bs as 'updates' and only did stuff like changing tree graphics in the last years, resting heavily on their laurels. But even this idle bunch is working on a DLC. If you start now you will experience the DLC before you are bored, especially with the awesome community who is keeping the game alive. But as it said, it is not a service game and another addon might take a long time again.
Hi it's DiggMann from the twitch chat if you start another factorio series it might be interesting if you include the mod "Space Exploration" :D but only if you feel like a little more action :)
Thank you for watching! I think you mean to say, "There are too many words that don't add anything to the video. This makes it way longer than it needs to be." Thanks for the feedback!
Factorio is quite simply the greatest game of its kind ever!! When somebody in the future does some kind of docuseries of computer gaming Factorio is going to be at the top of whatever list it gets lumped into I have thousands of hours playing There are hundreds of thousand of hours of playthrough videos encompassing a massive variety of mods And more are still being added to this day And now there's going to be a 2.0 later this year that's going to take it to whole other level of complexity and endless possibilities I'm sure I'll keep coming back to this game for the rest of my life !!!

@@DrIncompetent absolutely, and now that some of us are getting a bit too comfortable, the next big update is gonna turn it all on its head again!

I agree! It's always so fun to come back to!
I've been playing factorio since it's initial release. Best money I've ever spent on a videogame.
It's so good!

I have been hearing about this and am pumped! More Factorio? Yes, please! haha
The modding community is awesome you can play so many in depth overhaul mods its insane one of my favorites
I hear this! I really should take the plunge into the mods someday haha

Like me... I remember when destroy the bugs nest was needed to have the Pink M&Ms that were also needed for research.

That sounds like a nice compromise! I haven't tried that!
got Factorio a good 4 days ago now
my only comment: the factory must grow!
Haha, grow baby grow!

Simply: it's starship troopers but with factories.
Haha, that's a fun way of putting it ;)
@@DrIncompetent Someone should get on making a mod for that ASAP.

This is a great point that I didn't even mention, which is the value that mods add to the game! Thank you for mentioning this!
What do I think about Factorio? One of my saves has 2200 hours. I think that says everything.
Haha, that says it all for sure!

I think it's a good time to buy too! I think the space content is coming soon?
I'm assuming this sarcasm
I only just restarted FACTORIO for an all chest run, Yes train cars count. This is going to be so problematic.
Haha, awesome! Good luck!

I am excited to see the space stuff that launches in 2.0 factorio! I haven't tried mods yet--thank you for the recommendation ;D
Two other factory games are ranked higher on Steam than Factorio... just saying. I think Factorio is overrated.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
This game is so overwhelming. 😂
Haha, for sure! Infinity is no joke! It is wild.
Is new version??
My review is based on my playing the game over the past few years and even earlier this year!
2100 hours ingame for me
Haha, now that's a good recommendation! ;)
to many words that dont add anything to the video. making it way longer than it needs to be.
