My daughter was abused by her paternal grandfather already as a baby. My husband had left me shortly after she was born, but would regularly take her and her older brothers to visit their grandparents. She was diagnosed with selective mutism at 3 years of age . She finally told me some of what had been happening when she was 5 years old and was going to spend 2 weeks with her grandparents as a holiday. She was terrified at the thought. She couldn't remember a time when she hadn't been abused there, and I had no idea of any of it. I stopped the holiday, and the police dealt with the rest of it. She's now in her 40s, but is still triggered by any reference to her childhood, and anyone who bears a resemblance to him. She has CPTSD, is withdrawn and easily dissociate from any form of confrontation, however minor. Child abuse of that kind destroys children's lives. As a postscript, my eldest boy was never abused, nor was he aware of any abuse taking place. My middle son had also been abused by him, but much less frequently , and not so aggressively. He was only 12 months older than her, and so not really aware of what it was. Turns out their father had also been molested by him as a child, and believed that kind of behaviour to be unpleasant, but normal.
How evil that your children's father would allow that to happen to his children! He should have been charged and never allowed to associate with them. As a child he may have thought that was "normal", as many children might, even though it makes them uncomfortable. As an Adult I'd say baloney unless he lived on an island by himself

Naturally it's not meant saying ALL male or female child minders, caretakers, teachers or family, are assaulting the kids, imo it happens more often that most realise, working with victims it's an horrific tendency that in more than 17% of these cases, the MOTHER turned out to be the perpetrator, assaulting in most cases 1 of the children and not all(in households with more than 1 kid), they pick the quiet, withdrawn or sensitive kid, and more often than not, "she" also s/a' s neighbours or family members' kids too. Males are more likely do such, however the percentage of female are rising at an alarming rate. The rise in female teachers a-s both boys and girls, mostly boys I higher ages but even from pre-primary age kids are abused in kindergarten by both male and female teachers. Let's not be blinded by thinking it's only men that a-s kids, as females most definately does the same even to their own flesh and blood. Most kids are traumatised by withholding food, water, friends and other privileges, threatened with physical assault, emotional and neglect assault also play a role in order to make them compliant with the demands and forced actions by the assailant. We need to pray for all children from birth to be protected against abuse in all spheres. May GOD ALMIGHTY HAVE MERCY AND GRACE OVER EACH AAND EVERY CHILD ON THIS PLANET AND PROTECT THEM AGAINST ALL TYPES OF ABUSE AND NEGLECT. Younger girl whom dad knew him wanted to steer I tried stopping her was accused of being jealous. She was 6 I was 9. Dad held me as I cried as I through tears and hiccups told he what happened. He was ready to toss his body in the lake. Instead to his friend what the monster did. We left. Not sure what happened afterwards. Im 71 first time I publicly exposed this. Have wanted to see if he did it to her as well. Id buried this memory until 10 yrs ago. I once asked mom why she ignored me. Once again she claims memory loss. Or it didn't happen. Until I described what he wore where she and dad sat ...
I’m so very sorry. Child sex abusers are the most manipulative, demonic people in all the world. They literally get away with murder because they are experts on silencing children. I once was a child advocate and most of our cases were sexual abuse cases of very young children. There is systemic failure to protect children, partly due to ignorance, partly due to plausible deniability, partly due to money corruption and partly due to child sex offenders being embedded within the system. My own next-door neighbor was a policeman in a small town close by. He lived next-door to me and now I know what was wrong with his three year-old daughter. “Selective mutism“. She would come over to play with my children once in a while, but couldn’t speak. When I told her it was time to go home, she fell apart. Not in the typical way young children protest at having to stop their fun. This was a mental breakdown. Little did I know she was being sexually abused, as was her eight-year-old brother. The mother said they didn’t know what was wrong with her, regarding her inability to talk. They had had her hearing and intelligence tested, and nothing was wrong, she said. It was eventually discovered that this precious little girl made outcry to her babysitter who reported it to the police. This was after the eight year-old brother made allegations of sexual abuse of him and this little sister, but only after he felt safe once in foster care. You see he was adopted by the cop & his wife at 18 months and was then eight years old when I learned of the abuse. He first outcried to me of physical abuse by his adoptive police officer father. I reported it to the school, who contacted CPS. There were bruises so he was removed from the home and placed with an aunt, as I recall. The aunt hated the abusive father, but never told me why. There is no way the mother wasn’t aware of the abuse. So while safe in foster care, the boy made additional outcry about his father sexually abusing both of them. Fortunately, the family relinquished parental rights and he was adopted supposedly by a good family. The case went to family court and eventually was presented to a grand jury for criminal charges, but the father was no billed (probably because she couldn’t testify against him) & he sued CPS for asking leading questions to the 3 yrs old, which is a common tactic of child abusers. They know CPS will always give in when lawsuits are filed against them. Therefore he got his three year-old daughter back, and God only knows what kind of life she has had. She is in her late 30s or early 40s. Did she break free from the cycle of abuse or is she a perpetrator or married to one? I pray that one day justice is served and this horrible man is punished for these crimes. This happened around 1984 in Tomball Tx.
Same here.. my mom refused to take action and let my 22 year old uncle do whatever he wanted to do when I was 5…my “body kept the score” is why I’m still struggling and suffering chronic pain and suffering from autoimmune diseases

A well written story that exemplifies the reality behind child abuse, but with a somewhat happy ending. I learned to channel my grief in creative ways, too. A way of healing. I encourage others that have been through any kind of trauma to try it. A rewiring of the brain to seek out light or be consumed by darkness.
My Dad had a relative watched us 5 kids we were little and when my parents got home and he walked in he saw the person trying to hurt my oldest sister and wouldn't ever let anyone ever WATCH us again I don't know exactly what he did to the person. To young to remember 😢

I'm so sorry this happened to you. My therapist told me that my own mother absolved herself from having to deal with the situation by placing the responsibility for what happened on me. I've learned to be my own champion.

Abuse is not only perpetrated on the one victim. For all of us speaking here we need to educate ourselves about how and why these abuses happen. We need to take seriously the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child". All adults in the community need to pay attention to child's care. Not stopping interest in a situation out of convenience or bc of fear of retribution or not knowing what to do. As this story shows somewhat, the whole community had been affected by the perpetrator. The whole community needs to Respond with understanding and looking at themselvs about how they might have been there for this young man. And accept the need for all families to be supported by the others. Even to clarify that some one might be showing signs of control, isolation, overprotection. Most batterers seem very nice outside the home. And mess with the mind of the victim(s). You need to show compassion for all.
The danger is allowing the other children to learn the name of the victim or the victim's family. The children may verbally continue to abuse the child and don't say your kid wouldn't unfortunately you can't know that. It would be the rare child that would not participate and that child might wonder if the victim did something to precipitate the abuse. So I guess I'm saying that all children could hurt the victim.

It's not all that easy for children that are abused especially when judges are compromised I ought to know my family went through this even though my child would say what was going. They the lawyers and the judge said he was too little and they couldn't go by what he was saying it went on for years. My children were never vindicated.
This is what my granddaughter's father did to her and who know who else, he is free. He was up for dealing in cars, he and his family sorted the case, all people that carry on with their fraudulent life.
Thank God the child was not charged with murder poor child went through all that, plus the abuse. Im so glad the truth came out before he was convicted. Imagine how many cases would undergo this way, and they dont take the time to actually investigate it. Child abuse is a terrible thing. Im always very skeptical, and who is around my children. It is true that the abuser is always a family member or a very close friend of the family. What I don't understand is why sexually abuse a child? Getting sex is not that difficult is it?
Its not about sex but power. And whether we understand or not sometimes its a real sickness and the people need a combination of therapy and understand there are consequences of their behaviour.

It is absolutely about power and control, so the younger the child, the easier it is to hurt them without fear of being found out, or the child fighting back, etc. Abusers know what they are doing is wrong, this is why they manipulate situations so they can deliberately get past their own morals that says abuse is wrong, they will often seek out a role in the community or family where they will be above suspicion (eg. taking up jobs like social workers, priests, teachers, scout leaders, etc. or being a family member), they also need to find the opportunity to be alone with the child and, when the abuse happens, to control the child and ensure they are compliant, which often calls for a program of 'training' the child over a period of time or with threats, to be compliant. Disgusting, evil and, unfortunately, very common. It also shows the amount of deliberate planning that goes into overcoming the barriers so they can abuse. Personally, I cannot stop abuse from happening - I leave that to God, but I CAN help pick up the pieces and help the victim (I prefer "survivor") recover and live life to the full, as they should have been able to in the first place.

I’m so very sorry. Child sex abusers are the most manipulative, demonic people in all the world. They literally get away with murder because they are experts on silencing children. I once was a child advocate and most of our cases were sexual abuse cases of very young children. There is systemic failure to protect children, partly due to ignorance, partly due to plausible deniability, partly due to money corruption and partly due to child sex offenders being embedded within the system.
My own next-door neighbor was a policeman in a small town close by. He lived next-door to me and now I know what was wrong with his three year-old daughter. “Selective mutism“. She would come over to play with my children once in a while, but couldn’t speak. When I told her it was time to go home, she fell apart. Not in the typical way young children protest at having to stop their fun. This was a mental breakdown. Little did I know she was being sexually abused, as was her eight-year-old brother. The mother said they didn’t know what was wrong with her, regarding her inability to talk. They had had her hearing and intelligence tested, and nothing was wrong, she said. It was eventually discovered that this precious little girl made outcry to her babysitter who reported it to the police. This was after the eight year-old brother made allegations of sexual abuse of him and this little sister, but only after he felt safe once in foster care. You see he was adopted by the cop & his wife at 18 months and was then eight years old when I learned of the abuse. He first outcried to me of physical abuse by his adoptive police officer father. I reported it to the school, who contacted CPS. There were bruises so he was removed from the home and placed with an aunt, as I recall. The aunt hated the abusive father, but never told me why. There is no way the mother wasn’t aware of the abuse. So while safe in foster care, the boy made additional outcry about his father sexually abusing both of them. Fortunately, the family relinquished parental rights and he was adopted supposedly by a good family.
The case went to family court and eventually was presented to a grand jury for criminal charges, but the father was no billed (probably because she couldn’t testify against him) & he sued CPS for asking leading questions to the 3 yrs old, which is a common tactic of child abusers. They know CPS will always give in when lawsuits are filed against them. Therefore he got his three year-old daughter back, and God only knows what kind of life she has had. She is in her late 30s or early 40s. Did she break free from the cycle of abuse or is she a perpetrator or married to one? I pray that one day justice is served and this horrible man is punished for these crimes. This happened around 1984 in Tomball Tx.
Same here.. my mom refused to take action and let my 22 year old uncle do whatever he wanted to do when I was 5…my “body kept the score” is why I’m still struggling and suffering chronic pain and suffering from autoimmune diseases

A well written story that exemplifies the reality behind child abuse, but with a somewhat happy ending.
I learned to channel my grief in creative ways, too. A way of healing. I encourage others that have been through any kind of trauma to try it. A rewiring of the brain to seek out light or be consumed by darkness.
Maybe expand on this and write books.

I'm so sorry this happened to you. My therapist told me that my own mother absolved herself from having to deal with the situation by placing the responsibility for what happened on me. I've learned to be my own champion.

There are different kinds of sensory disorders that can account for certain people reacting with extreme discomfort, and they have every right to express themselves publicly. Otherwise, it’s another situation causing more family secrets, shame, and pain. It would be helpful if you tried to get posters to show viewers how to remove bothersome stimuli that make it difficult for them to watch this kind of reporting, an airing that Society desperately needs to heed.

Abuse is not only perpetrated on the one victim. For all of us speaking here we need to educate ourselves about how and why these abuses happen. We need to take seriously the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child". All adults in the community need to pay attention to child's care.

The danger is allowing the other children to learn the name of the victim or the victim's family. The children may verbally continue to abuse the child and don't say your kid wouldn't unfortunately you can't know that. It would be the rare child that would not participate and that child might wonder if the victim did something to precipitate the abuse. So I guess I'm saying that all children could hurt the victim.

It's not all that easy for children that are abused especially when judges are compromised I ought to know my family went through this even though my child would say what was going. They the lawyers and the judge said he was too little and they couldn't go by what he was saying it went on for years. My children were never vindicated.

It is absolutely about power and control, so the younger the child, the easier it is to hurt them without fear of being found out, or the child fighting back, etc. Abusers know what they are doing is wrong, this is why they manipulate situations so they can deliberately get past their own morals that says abuse is wrong, they will often seek out a role in the community or family where they will be above suspicion (eg. taking up jobs like social workers, priests, teachers, scout leaders, etc. or being a family member), they also need to find the opportunity to be alone with the child and, when the abuse happens, to control the child and ensure they are compliant, which often calls for a program of 'training' the child over a period of time or with threats, to be compliant. Disgusting, evil and, unfortunately, very common. It also shows the amount of deliberate planning that goes into overcoming the barriers so they can abuse. Personally, I cannot stop abuse from happening - I leave that to God, but I CAN help pick up the pieces and help the victim (I prefer "survivor") recover and live life to the full, as they should have been able to in the first place.
