The Plini always slays. From the Archetype series, Neural got it right the first time. That said, this video is a brilliant example that there is no slouch in the bunch. Choose any and be happy. I wish I liked the Neural DSP offerings as much as the Kemper patch...
Once you've got everything quad tracked like this and stuck in a mix, the differences become pretty minor, in my opinion. All sound basically 'equally' good in my opinion, despite some minor tonal characteristic differences.
Thank you very much for this video. I have the Fortin, Nolly and Plini. You show me that i still have the right ones. Plini and Fortin sounding the best. I combine it always with Engl Fireball and an Isocab.
Thanks for making this video. Very well done comparison! Was a big help in narrowing down the playing field. I definitely like the Nameless, Omega, and Plini most out of the bunch. Hmmm. Now comes the hard part of picking which of those three to get.
When I'm cooking I have the monitors behind me blasting the basses into the room. This is the best way to feel and hear the pressure of the cabs/amps. Not knowing wich amp was running the Kemper gave the most umpf. Second place the Abasi. While the Plini sounded the best to me in front of the speakers it had almost no umpf at all behind them.
My Favourite Neural DSP Plugins In Order + Why btw i'm a deathmetal kinda guy 1-Nolly -5150 amp -EQ, pedals, nice IRs 2-Omega Granophyre -Fullest sounding amp and great for deathmetal -Great IRs 3-Fortin Cali -Nice Modern Classic sound and is great for thrash and deathmetal -Very aggressive and responsive to pick attack, without being too scratchy 4-Fortin NTS -Good all round metal tones 5-Abasi -Complete suite 6-Plini -Complete suite 7-Fortin Nameless -Nice amp for some style but not versitile enough. -Doesn't do deathmetal well -Very scratchy
I've come.back a year later, and that Nolly Rhythm really tickles me in all the right places!. Haha. With their 50% sale, I'm getting getting Nolly suite!.
That's why I keep picking the Abasi when A/B-ing it against the others. It just sounds so full and rich. Figuring out how to dial in the gain between the pathos and amp for a little more crunch, and the mic placement to smooth out some high end noise and it's my favorite now. I think it's the most versatile, and worth the extra work to get it just right
Thanks for keeping the mics consistent for the sake of the demo. Were the onboard overdrive pedals consistent as well? I know a lot of the plugins, if not all of them, have different pedal options.
What guitar are you using and what pickups (brand/ active/ passive)? Is it drop tuned? Others might be interested, please put in the description... Great riffs, excellent review, thanks for the comparison!!!
Really nice information ! Thank you! Question: On your recorded tracks you mentioned two cabs. Each of the four tracks has both cabs or you do some left/right sort of thing?
The best is still the Kemper to my ears. Neural DSP have made some good progress in the recent year though but it's not quite there yet IMO. There's something wrong with the cab resonance on the pick attack. They are not bad but for pro recordings I would still use a Kemper, Helix or Axe-Fx over these but for the price it's a great deal. Good job by the way!
I don’t know? They all kind of sound very similar. Seems like I could get the same tone with any of them and then add post processing to control transients and EQ? I only own and love the Cali for guitar and the Parallax for bass.
Great video! Love your playing Cheers! There is a mid high frequency hum at the tail end of muted notes before the noise gate catches when on higher gain tones. It sounds like the computer cpu or maybe a ground issue in the home. i notice the same thing when recording with these plugins. i love the sound so i'm really trying hard to figure out how to fix it. does this happen with other gear or plugins? or is it an audio interface issue? what do you think? Thanks for the awesome video!
I get exactly the same noise and it’s been driving me crazy for ages! Never been able to get rid of it and it stops me playing dynamically as any time I play lightly eg palm mutes or a build up type of thing, the noise overpowers the guitar! Tried USB isolator, shielded cables, different power outlets in the house amongst other things. What do you mean by computer CPU and can anything be done about it? For me it seems like the noise is interference being emitted from the PC.
If you are not using the same ir you are not comparing the amp models. What you did is a comparison between the products. The IRs sound drastically different between them. So in order to demonstrate differences between the amps you should switch off the cabinets and run them on an external ir.
If i'd do that there would barely be significant differences; besides the amps the most impact on a tone is the cab. So by keeping on each of their own cabs you can compare the difference. Indeed: It's a comparison between the products.
@@Mendelian I think that most guitarists fail to see the importance of the cab. That is why I commented in order to increase awareness on the fact. I am sure you know what you are doing. Nice riff by the way!
KPA sounds more hi-fi than the other clips both alone and in the mix, but the rest are not bad at all, especially the Fortin and Plini which have amp-like resonance thanks to the nice cab sim IR. I see myself can definitely use these plugins in recordings.
I’m having major latency problems with these plugins. Does anyone have any advice on how to decrease the latency? I can hear the tone, which sounds fantastic, but it’s very hard for practice and would be nearly impossible for recordings.
Hey! First my latency was like 60ms because the PC's built-in audio handling converts analogue to digital and back to analogue very slowly, the only solution was to purchase an external audio interface - i got the Focusrite 2i2. Then you plug the guitar and the speakers to the itnerface. With a bandwitch of 64 in FL studio, now i have a latency of 7ms, which is really good for real-time playing and recording
Nolly - For the variety and comprehensiveness. Granophyre - For the fullness and overall amp tone, if you don't need a fully suite and only amt an amp.
I like these plugins, but I really don't see the interest in spending over 100 bucks for something that, with the right IR, doesn't sound that much better than a free amp sim... Just my 2 cents.
@@Jack-sk3we I tried the demo version for the Nolly one. I mean, it's very good, and I like the sounds you get, but I still prefer to use it through a free IR. If I compare it to the Lecto from Lepou or the Nalex Ninja, it's not really better. It's different, but not in a way that makes me scream like it's a miracle. I'm not saying that the DSP plugins are snake oil, I'm just saying that I can get a very good sound out of a free amp sim without spending big bucks that I could invest in better hardware. Expecially being that, in a mix, the difference is even more subtle. That said, it's just my humble opinion. 😊
@@mvyper You've got a very good point here. The impulse response is going to be a HUGE part of the tone. That being said, the built in cab system in all of these is pretty spectacular. In terms of external IR libraries, what are your favorites?
@@vikingguitar I'm really liking heavy hitters 1 by own hammer. Also, some of the cabs in the Mesa boogie pack from 2 notes are quite good! Talking about free ones, the God's cabs library is actually very exciting.
besides the really awesome review of the amps, either your noise gate is pretty bad set up, or the audio is cut in DAW, it's really some heavy audio cut-offs there ;) (also prefer the kemper btw)

Bro, this is probably THE best Neural DSP comparison video out there. I've been searching. And damn, EPIC production!
the Nolly 5150 amp is the best to my ears..That crunch is so good in a mix

Granophyre and Nolly (Rythm) for me. They sound absolutely gnarly. Thank you for making this, you did a proper job bro!
Really good video, thanx! I'd love to see an update with the latest plugin - Fortin Cali. Cheers :)

I just ripped these tones in Bias Amp 2 (amp match) straight from the video...

My Favourite Neural DSP Plugins In Order + Why
btw i'm a deathmetal kinda guy
1-Nolly
-5150 amp
-EQ, pedals, nice IRs
2-Omega Granophyre
-Fullest sounding amp and great for deathmetal
-Great IRs
3-Fortin Cali
-Nice Modern Classic sound and is great for thrash and deathmetal
-Very aggressive and responsive to pick attack, without being too scratchy
4-Fortin NTS
-Good all round metal tones
5-Abasi
-Complete suite
6-Plini
-Complete suite
7-Fortin Nameless
-Nice amp for some style but not versitile enough.
-Doesn't do deathmetal well
-Very scratchy
Interesting. For me the Nolly sounded the worst in that comparison. But I really am in love with the Granophyre, especially the KT66 tubes version
Good review man although you left out the Fortin Cali!
