- A radical overhaul of police vetting and recruitment is needed to prevent another killer police officer from operating in plain sight. That is the stark warning made to police chiefs and the government following an inquiry into Sarah Everard's murder. The report found that her killer Wayne Couzens should have never been allowed to serve as a police officer and that red flags were repeatedly ignored.
Women's safety campaigner, Mina Smallman says that police officers who received messages from Sarah Everard's killer Wayne Couzens are 'complicit' in their silence.

It isn't just a recruitment issue. What has been made apparent in the fallout of this is that the police force as a whole is both unwilling and unable to police it's own. There were repeated instances of police officers either knowing or strongly suspecting wrongdoing in other officers but not challenging or reporting it. The reasons are obvious - it causes difficulties in a working environment and carries personal risk. But while this culture continues there will be no solution.

Predators can be anyone. Neighbour, siblings, father, mother , shop worker, ex partners , doctor, nurses, councillors etc etc the list is endless ………Nothing is perfect
It may not be perfect, however when it is Ny institution that deals with anyone or anything in a vulnerable position, it should be held to the highest standards
So because anyone could be a predator and because other institutions are not perfect what? What is the point of sayings? Should nothing change about the police because of this redundant point?
The police unlike many other "not perfect " institutions has a monopoly on violence and therefore needs to opperate as close to perfect as possible it needs to be overhauled.

Sociopaths, psychopaths, and social inadequates. Those are the recruitment priorities of every police force since the beginning, and it has to be, because 'normal' people, recognising the core purpose of any police force (maintain an oppressive and exploitative status quo), will seek any other way to earn a living. And the few 'normal' people they let through, will either be destroyed or resign early when they realise the truth.
So yes, those like him, and much worse, have always existed in police forces, and all the bleating and reports in the world won't change it. Because as someone once said: "power should never go to those who seek it".

It would be simpler to get rid of the police force as it is completely not fit for purpose , well apart from sitting on the road side catching speeding motorists

The police should be like the army who have a fitness test every year if you do not pass it the first time you get two more chances if you still fail your out and the screening of the police should be a top priority to wead out bad ones with a psychology test by a qualified professional
