Salmon is a city in Lemhi County, Idaho, United States. The population was 3,112 at the 2010 census. The city is the county seat of Lemhi County
Located in the Lemhi River valley, Salmon is home to the Sacajawea Interpretive Culture and Education Center, which focuses on Lemhi Shoshone culture, as well as the interaction between Sacagawea and other Shoshone and Lewis and Clark.
The Lewis and Clark Expedition crossed the continental divide at Lemhi Pass, 30 miles (48 km) to the southeast of Salmon. They followed the Salmon River through the present site of the city, then ascended the North Fork of the river, at the present day town named after the confluence, to cross into present-day Montana near Lost Trail Pass. The sole female in the party, Sacagawea, was born in the Lemhi Valley near Salmon. The Sacajawea Interpretive, Cultural and Educational Center was opened in Salmon in August 2003.
From 1910 to 1939, Salmon was the western terminus of the now-defunct Gilmore and Pittsburgh Railroad.
The Salmon River passes through Salmon; white water rafters and other people interested in outdoor recreation have brought additional economic activity to Salmon. The Lemhi River flows into the Salmon River at Salmon.

There are people who would look at this town and think it's boring. I look at it and think it's heaven on Earth. After living in the area I've lived all my life, and as depressing and run down my small town and it's people are, a town like this is more than I could ever ask for. The roads are paved, the sidewalks and parks are well maintained, all of the buildings are occupied and not crumbling apart from decades of abandonment and neglect, and the people seem friendly. And I can guarantee you that all of this goes unnoticed by the people who live there, as well as outsiders who may come from "nicer" places. This kind of place takes an immense amount of effort to maintain. What this community has is NOT inherent in humans. It has to be learned, and it has to be passed on to the next generations, and from them onto the next. It also has to weather a number of outside environmental factors that could at any moment bring this society to its knees.
Never forget this, Salmon, Idaho.

Such a quaint town. Really lovely. I just got a 360 5k and really didn't know if I was doing the walking videos right. I love doing them in Kathmandu. That was a very nice walk. The past two days I rewalked Sacramento andIdaho Falls, but this one was new. For a town of 3100 people, that is a nice town. Even the bear with the waterfall andd salmon, the library, a small park, and even the residential was nice for a small town like that. I would like to know if you have to walk back or if the tall guy comes and gets you, since it is late.

Love Salmon Idaho....Have been here bout 7-8 times over the yrs but only once in the past 15 yrs...Many moons ago when my parents divorced my dad moved from the Calif. Bay Area to here...Then my brother also lived here for a few yrs...I was planning on retiring here but i met my wife and stuff happened/changed LOL ....You walked right by my dads 1st house next door to the little market up on the Bar...The Bar is what they call that area where most of the homes are on the west side of the bridge...We just went through there in our Motorhome little over a yr ago on our way to a nite stay up just the road in North Fork then onto Missoula Montana and Flathead lake to use as a base camp to see Glacier National Park...I have no relatives there anymore but i still love coming to the place....
