I bought a 95 Chev K1500 truck for $2000 w/120k mi, I put about $6k into it, did alot of the work myself bcuz they're easy to work on. and now I have a nice fully paid pickup truck that drives great, no engine lights, I;ve put about 28kmi on it and it's never failed me or left me stranded & I only pay about $50 a mo for insurance. Love it!

It's ALWAYS better to be rich, not just LOOK rich. I just bought a New-to-me car, fully paid. My previous car I had for a decade and was purchased outright when I purchased. Everything you said is 100%. If a car is cared for, good maintenance, good fuel, good treatment, a kia and toyota can surpass 200k mileage. I bought a vehicle large enough for me to travel in and camp wirh so I can save money on hotels. Another benefit to a "beater" is you're not a target fkr theft as much as folks that like to flash wealth or supposed wealth.

paid $5k for my 06 e90 330i 6 speed manual. albeit ive poured close to $10k in mods and parts, including a replacement engine, limited slip diff, and clutch in the span of 4 years but did all the work my self and now has 230k miles. in the end i got no stupid $500 monthly payment and my insurance is cheap lol.

It sounds like you have your self a pretty sweet ride, your making very smart choices my friend, each right choice you make will keep you ahead of the game! You can save money by doing your own maintenance and repairs instead of paying a garage to do the work for you I always recommend that to anyone who has backyard Knowledge. Also Working on your car can help you learn about how your vehicle works, which can help you drive more efficiently and minimize wear and tear. This knowledge can also be useful for other projects you might have around your house.
Honestly Some people find working on their own vehicles to be fun and satisfying. I most certainly find it very educational and it will help you expand your mind and gain more knowledge! It can also help you bond with your car and build your confidence.
But what ever you do try to stay clear of a auto loan, it is a money trap.
But I'm so very glad I could help you my dear friend & i appreciate your support. Keep being an amazing person my friend. & I will be here to assist you every step of the way.
      May Yahusha HaMashiach Bless you!

So a basic car made 19 years ago isn't old enough for ya? Lol

@@LightOfHands I consider it a basic car unless it's actually beat up to the death then I'll consider it a beater, I have a truck that's 53 years old and another that's 22 years old, both drive like normal everyday vehicles and in good shape, I wouldn't consider them a beater

Your making very smart choices my friend, each right choice you make will keep you ahead of the game! Most Vehicles may lose 20% percent of it's value in the first year. If you have a high interest rate, you could owe more than what your vehicle is worth and not only that but anyone's vehicle can lose its value every year (up to 60% within the first five years), but you are also hit with high interest rates as well, In all senses of the term, it is a money trap.

My savings account, etc. - Totally agree.
I Always bought 'good' used, typically at 50K on the odometer ... and then drove them for 'another' 200-300k+ miles. (Im a Mech Engr. etc. with some automotive engrng. experience; so, I MAINTAIN to 'perfection' levels.) With such previous experience, I absolutely abhor the un-necesarily over-complicated NEW vehicles, especially made with highly INFERIOR 'Chinese' origin **new** and replacement parts; AND, with government mandated WEAK piston rings ... that SOON foul with carbon, and then stick in their piston grooves, and then destroy the combustion chamber walls, ... usually before 90K mi. I absolutely will NOT own any vehicle made 'after' ~2012, without 'serious' internal engine modifications (piston rings, etc.) !!!!!!!!
If it's not KISS, then you WILL HAVE constant problems.
The REAL problem, now, with older vehicles is that the auto-salvage yards now send most any vehicle over ~20 yrs of age .... to the 'crusher' ... and then you may find a (good) used parts 'scarcity' .

Well said, I abide by the same doctrine, but with trucks, none after 2006 with AFM. Im a EE, but totally mechanical too. the 50k cars to referred to, i call them Creampuffs. 2400 for a 2003 Taurus with 65k, 2400 for a 2005 Silverado with 65k in 2020, covid low, now 2000 Silverado with 65k broken bellhousing due to corrosion, 2600 plus shipping of 1100 from PA to SC, fixed the Bellhousing, drive it. Florida is a prime shopping area where an old man buys a new car, then dies and the descendants dont want them.
