Bro, I can't explain the amazing time I have with my 4yo little boy watching you. He laughs at all your antics and has a HUGE smile on his face the whole time. Thank you for doing what you do and putting smiles on all our faces. God bless and so much love from Az. 🤙🏻

@@LegitStreetCars Arizona in the winter and Arizona in the summer are two different places for sure 😆 I was down there to see my dad and work on his Baja Bronco. Put a wrench down for 30 seconds and damn near 3rd degree burns 😂
I replaced a set of wheel studs in a parking lot in a shady part of Memphis Tennessee back about 10 years ago. Had a homeless guy hang out through most of the job. He was actually a lot of help and never asked me for anything. I bought us some McDonald's in the middle of the job and we had a great talk while cooling off in the AC. We used a whole bunch of washers to press the studs in because it's all we had on hand. The dude was so cool and helpful. I wish I knew whatever happened to him. Just goes to show that when you're working on a vehicle, someone will usually come to help or at least ask if you need help.
Alex, you gotta remember, this is a drag car. Its normal operating RPM is probably 4500-8000. In order for it to shift into the higher gears, you gotta be up there on the revs.
It’s always funny to me seeing how happy Alex gets from parts coming off like engineered. Being in Florida I’ve never fought rust unless it was old and I was replacing anyways. I couldn’t imagine dealing with it in the rust belt. Hats off to all of you!
Tech tip. Don’t push the line all the way into the fitting. There’s a line inside the fitting that you’ll push the hose too. I’d say 2-3mm from the lip in the fitting. Allows for expansion when inserting the rest of the fitting
I believe the cobra rotors are an inch bigger than the GT. The calipers are definitely cobra specific as they are twin piston. My 98 has those, PBY made them. The lettering on the rotors is cast and when you see remans it’s rare to get them with lettering. Rebuild is the way to go to keep that cool originality.
The same 13" rotors and PB two piston calipers came on all Cobras through 2004 as well as the 03-04 Mach 1s. On the Mach 1s they were blank and did not say Cobra.
The rear calipers are the same as a gt or v6, but cobra has vented rear calipers and therefore slightly thinner brake pads. Looks like that solid rear and has gt brakes on it
Sounds amazing Alex! I don't think you have a transmission issue, I think you have a drag race style transmission that requires lots of throttle input and at least 4,000 RPMs to complete a shift. I have an AOD built like this in my W124 Coupe. Go out there and hammer on it and I almost guarantee you it will shift and slam you into the seat.
She lives!!!!! I remember reading the magazine with her in it when I worked at the local grocery store back in the day. I love watching your team's videos, everyone is so genuine and the knowledge is solid.
If tuning hurdles occur, may need to move maf to the fender attached to filter. May have to switch BOV to Bypass also. Decades ago to swap a 4 valve into a GT, required an engine, ecu & harness from donor. Perhaps, a Lincoln Mark VIII or Mercury Marauder (32v & auto)
@ 28:16 GT guy here. Our brakes are just a little bit smaller in diameter. Cobra brakes are a bolt on upgrade for us, but you lose the ability to run your spare tire on the front if you do.
Get cobra 13" front rotors and some ats brembos and the stm kit. Worth every penny also just a warning those maf sensors are calibrated for the internal pipe diameter of the pipe they come in. It could cause tuning issues in the future I know mine did
I think that big "fuel line" is actually the EVAP vapor line. From what I remember most Ford's around that time had 3/8 feed and 5/16 return. I maxed mine out with 500 something to the tire.
Great video guys! As a curious human, I personally would've enjoyed all the harness install / tranny re-pinning goodness too. I'll take education over entertainment every single time. Great job getting her running again Alex, and thank you for sharing your adventures with us!
I ended up with left hand HF drill bits as a kid cuz they came in ultra cheap random grab bags of bits, turns out they work amazing for drilling out broken fasteners
Mad congrats on getting the Cobra up and moving under its own steam! @42:11 there are a check engine and od light. It could be something as simple as the OD switch / band or something in the wiring harness could be different. Best of luck figuring it out, looking forward to the next video 👍

Thank you for the Cobra content! Those deep dish 10.5 wheels are going on my ‘99 Cobra. They are EPIC! I wish yours had the manual trans because I’d love to see you do a clutch cable and quadrant replacement.
Alex, the long studs are mandated for vehicles that go a certain speed at the track. Chances are this was fast enough that it was needed in order to legally run at the track. Also check the rear rotors off of an explorer, those might be the correct rotors for that. Like a 97-98 explorer with an 8.8 diff with disc brakes.
Awesome job Alex. Knowing I watched this car make it's final death run all those years ago and now seeing it come back to life in almost the same condition it was when I last saw it is amazing.
This car brings back some memories. As others mentioned, new edge cobra rotors were larger than GT and had twin pistons. That wing is not a replica Cobra R wing as that would be much taller (I ran one from Cervinis on my '01 GT). That looks more like a Steeda rear wing. Or replica of one. I always cover the stainless braid with clear or black heat-shrink tubing to prevent the stainless braid from abrading or wearing other hoses or wiring harness.
FYI. Factory 99 and up Cobras did not have a return line. They had a fuel pump driver behind the drivers side trunk panel that modulated the power going to the pump and a dead headed system. The factory fuel rail had the inlet in the back and a fitting on the divers side front for a fuel pressure sensor. As mentioned, the large line is EVAP.

Alex it’s your speed sensor in your transmission. I had my 02 SS transmission rebuilt and it did the same thing you’re experiencing. It’s a sensor on the driver-side at least it was on the Camaro.
Try looking at 94 Mustang GT and 96 Mustang GT rear rotors to see if they are different (though I don't know why they would be) It might be worth getting a Mustang GT rotor though if they have washers to shim the caliper, might be able to eliminate that 'jankiness'. Rotors might be original from the IRS maybe? If not then the only thing i can think of would be Crown Vic rotors but also doubtful.
The vibes were high in this one man, the cobra is really sick. I’m super excited to see the Lightning get picked up again, it’s been like an ominous prescience hanging in the back of the other series lol
@22:50... Just keep in mind, if you ever drag race this thing, the studs will need to engage 1/2" of thread on your lug nuts. You should run open ended lug nuts, so tech inspection can see this. @27:38... I'd just replace it with a K&N dry (no oil) filter, since you're using a MAF. @34:50... Get some bee's wax to lubricate that bit. Cuts so much cleaner.
I think the new edge all had returnless fuel systems. At least that's the case with my 2000 V6. On mine I have a focus pump (forgot the lph but I want to say it's 310) plus a boost a pump. Fuel is limiting more power on mine. Back in 05 when I built it, I really needed the 03-04 cobra dual pump system with an upgraded gauge wires.

I was told that some tech inspectors and raceways depending on what side of the country you are on prefer you to have long wheel studs for safety reason
28:10 The Cobra calipers are the same PBR calipers used on the C4 Corvette and the Rotors are 13" vs 11.65 on the GT. Also, the GT uses a conventional vacuum booster. The Cobra uses a Hydroboost system since the 4V heads are so big.
Great work Alex! You have impressive skills and attitude, enjoy ALL your video’s! (I must admit though that I cringed a little when you started that clearance griding inside the engine bay…so much metal shavings flying everywhere…)
@@EstorilE36M345Yeah, I just was not sure if the MAF can handle boost pressure? Never seen it done that way. Very interesting if that is how it is intended. Obviously a MAP sensor is completely different and your IAT sensor is in your boost piping and your MAP sensor is in the intake manifold.
tip on drilling metal. you dont apply nearly as much pressure on the drill as you would with wood. basically add a little pressure to make sure its straight and level and let the drill do all the work.
Maybe I'm wrong, but generally in a boosted setup with a MAF don't you want the MAF before the turbo/supercharger and not in the charge piping? It would also explain why that MAF adapter was made for a much larger diameter pipe.
You can do either way. Typically with the type of MAF that he used is used for a draw-through (before boost) but can be used as a blow-through (after boost). The major problem what I see in this video is the data transfer function will dramatically be affected by changing the size of pipe he switched over to. A bit tricky to explain but basically you decrease the diameter of a pipe but have the same volume of air, velocity increases which throws off the MAF reading.
Like others have said, definitely check to see if it's a full manual valve body (or reverse manual valve body). Love the awesome content and videos, Alex!

You can install the MAF into the boost/intercooler piping? I've always seen them on the air intake piping on boosted cars.
Benefit here is being after the blow off valve so no stumbles. Maybe this MAF is ok seeing boost?
@@EstorilE36M345Yeah, I just was not sure if the MAF can handle boost pressure? Never seen it done that way. Very interesting if that is how it is intended. Obviously a MAP sensor is completely different and your IAT sensor is in your boost piping and your MAP sensor is in the intake manifold.
Yess the fastest cobra is back to the future
I love the artwork on the wall above the work bench ❤ great motivation when you are feeling a bit low or when things aren't going to plan 😀🤙
Great to see the mustang run again, saw all the episodes, can't wait for the next one. 😊
tip on drilling metal. you dont apply nearly as much pressure on the drill as you would with wood. basically add a little pressure to make sure its straight and level and let the drill do all the work.
Love this car, makes me miss my 04 Mach 1.
Let's go Alex 4 valve babyyyyyy
Coming along, nice work Alex 👍🏻 the exhaust noise level though 🤪 😂
Those wheels look fantastic! 👏
When spring comes around, rent a 1/4 mile track for a few hours or go in with a track rental with someone and start getting 1/4 miles from all your cars, you have a bunch of cool cars! Run-em!
Does it have a manual valve body? So drive would be 1st
2nd would be 2nd and 3rd would be low.
Alex, I've finally pulled my 02 GT into the shop! Been down since 2018 after hydroplaning on the freeway. Finally have everything together for the rebuild. Super pumped! Cobra is awesome btw
Also, way back in the day they didn't have any quick-disconnects for the factory-style hard fuel lines. Now you can just buy them.
Hey Alex I believe you have a ford explorer’s 8.8 rearend and brake setup.
Got the car care pack..will use it forever. The brushes DEF help keep the Merc looking rite. Look forward to more Merc content
Thanks brother! Glad you are enjoying it!
@LegitStreetCars Will you please give us the brand/model of what you use to clean your cars? Put it in the merch store so i can buy it please..
