  • Bipolar disorder is nothing to be ashamed of. Nadya addresses the stigma and discrimination that still exists in the Dutch job market for people with an invisible disability, like bipolar disorder. She works to raise awareness of discrimination against those with mental health issues that continues despite the ratification of the UN Convention of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities by the Netherlands in 2016. My name is Nadya van der Sluis and I am 34 years old. I am a typical village girl, but since a few years I live in The Hague. Here I work as a paralegal at the Dutch Ministery of Justice and in my free time I am volunteer for the foundation Plusminus. This is a foundation for people with a bipolar condition and there family and friends. I want to take part at TedxAmsterdamWomen to create more awareness about what a bipolar condition is and break the stigma around mental illnesses. Funfact next to that is that I also love to go to Hardstyle festivals in my free time an dance typical Dutch. In Holland we call it ‘hakken’!! This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

I am bipolar. It’s not easy. Don’t ever give up. I know the lows are low…they will pass. Ride the waves…you are so very important ♥️

You can only understand if you are Bipolar . We have some things that normal people do not have . So yes it's a strength 😊
