100-125
I am on pace for for 120.
15 and I read 12 till now
it's not much I know for 3 reasons😕
1.I started reading in 2020
2. I am still 14
3. I only read nonfiction books
No goal, I read at my own pace. Books are to be enjoyed, not raced through. I probably read the equivalent of 30+ a year. Many I re-read because I enjoy the stories.
I used to read 100 books a year, which averages about a book every other day. But since the pandemic, it's gotten harder to concentrate. I go at my own pace. Also, graphic novels and manga count as books!
I hope people aren't discouraged by this and think that you're not reading enough! It's definitely great to read when you can especially in little moments throughout the day--daily reading is a wonderful habit to build--but you don't have to get to the big numbers in a year! It's not about the numbers, but the content that you actually make use of in your life, as well as what all can bring you joy. Just saying as someone who used to read a lot but retained none of the information despite "meticulous documentation" because I lost focus on why I read in the first place and believed more is more
This is very true and nice disclaimer for people to understand everyone reads and takes in information differently, for example
- I cannot keep up with audiobooks I tend to drift off while listening audiobooks, so I don't listen them. When doing mindless chores I listen to podcasts which work for me but audiobooks I find myself losing focus.
- I cannot keep up with reading more than 3 books at a time, that to all need to be different genre. I start the next once I am done with either of those. Because I have seen that when I read more than 4 books at a time by the end I am not retaining all of them properly. As of now, 3 is my sweet spot.
- I cannot read while having lunch or dinner, I find it way too messy.I don't own a reading stand like JetPens demoed, so....
- Also, it's not necessary to read 100 books a year, one book per week or 2 books a month is fine too. As you said, pace is not important, enjoying the content and retaining is very important.
- For retaining I would say write down important things as one reads and not after one has done reading, they are something one only gets used to writing properly by making mistakes and understanding what feels important to them to connect dots afterwards. My early book summaries do not help me remember those books properly. I am getting better but still not as good as I want. Work in progress.
Agree. Quality over quantity. If you enjoy the books you are reading you will naturally read more! Don't force yourself; you will feel miserable
Totally true!!! In fact, before I felt very pressured when I saw these types of videos and realized that I was not progressing. Thanks to a lot of personal work, now I can enjoy my readings and not worry about the quantity or keep such a specific count :)
A few years ago I decided to stop reading books I wasn’t enjoying. I used to feel like I had to finish every book I started, but life’s too short and there are too many books! Now I enjoy my reading time more because I took away a pressure I was putting on myself.
@Sam Hoornaert And there are quite a ton of videos on youtube titled, "A Solid [#] Minutes of Useless Information." Everybody learns something new everyday, and books are not the only available medium to "work with your brain." Clearly, I'm addressing an audience that do enjoy reading and are already in the practice of reading as much as they can in their leisure. I only mean to point out that there is no shame in not getting to a specific amount of books read each year. We're still learning and engaging in intellectually-stimulating activities everyday without having finished a book per se. People read articles of news, listen to podcasts, and/or watch informative youtube content. But I do still believe it is a matter of use in life, in the application of the knowledge learned or as you call it, the POV of increasing productivity. Most of us here enjoy reading, but it sure is a check on our daily to-do list to challenge and use the brain, too.
I’m glad Jetpens is making more creative videos, like asthetic vlogs!
I love seeing the behind the scenes on how Jetpens’s amazing team films and produces the high quality content they do! Thank you so much for showing interesting topics like this reading one and more of the talented people at Jetpens!
I've often wondered how these people manage to read 50-100 books (or more) in a year, now I know: by doing all the things I've always been forbidden to do, reading during meals and at work 😂😂
Which phone is this? Name?
Also audiobooks and TTS 😂 they are great while doing chores
Also, reading speed matters A LOT to those numbers. You may also be a slower than average reader like me, because I like to stop and savor/review a lot! Reading at my own pace is the only way I enjoy reading though. I don’t like to rush! And this feels a bit like rushing. Even with audiobooks, I skip back often.
It's forbidden???🤭 Reading at work, I understand, but during meals?😶 I didn't know until now! Whyyy is it soo?😳
I am one of those people. I don't own a TV set, I read in the evenings. I am not active on FB or TikTok or whatever is popular right now. I do briefly check a handfull of IG accounts in the morning, however. No need to read instead of doing the work I am paid for. I read when I have to wait for the bus or at the doctors, the dentist, in the bus, if there is a long line when grocery shopping etc. It all adds up. But the most reading I do in the evening. My average reading time for a book is 7.8 hrs and I read 2.4 books per week on average. Some books will take longer like science books, but the odd crime story is a speedy read, which will balance things out. I am a fast reader, because there normally is nothing to distract me from it. No background music or other noise, just the book, the cat and me. I love reading. I am 57 years old and learnt how to read when I was 3. I've read so many books about so many topics, been to so many places and times in history, it is a wonderful thing to be able to immerse oneself in a book!
I read about 30 books a year or so. I could read more but I’m also a knitter and I journal. So I need time for my other hobbies as well. Curious what other hobbies the CEO has.
My only tip is to: Know Yourself. Don't try to speed up or slow down because someone else does it.
I'm very focus oriented person. Like hyper-focused. I can't switch around with physical books. Either I read it or I don't. I used to read like 12 books a week, but that was when I still was interested in what they were about. Getting older I've been picky about what I want to remember from book reading. Would I want to pick up 6 of Crows? Yes, but I'd want all of the books in one go on my desk so I can just continue on where one leaves off. And I can't get them all in one go from library.
Then there's also that I can read a 750k word /over 80 chapters fanfiction in one sitting over the evening, but was I productive? No. Did I enjoy it? Heck yes. Audio books on the go baffle me still because 1) I can't stand the voice becoming higher pitched some how as I try to speed up to how fast I read and 2) well I can't stand using earbuds, after a whole day of headphones at work.
Fan fictions count as books, to me. Well, if they're over 100k words and well written. They're always there on my kindle for when I want something lighter to read
I'm trying to get back into reading. I'll try using some of these tips.
I have a learning disability as well as ADHD. I’ve always loved reading, but as I’ve gotten older it’s more difficult to retain what I’m reading or even sit down to read. I tried the audiobook route and the ebook route and would get overwhelmed. Hopefully these tips will help me get back into reading and being able to discuss what I’ve read 🙂
No pressure! Take as much time as you need. Not everything is going to be at a fast pace because not all books are created equally. Recently I’ve taken to either telling someone else, or just writing down what I learned that day. I see it as a similar habit to practicing gratitude- like actively looking for something to be grateful for. And for complex or technical books I’m not afraid of taking complex or technical notes.
I do also like to add variety by reading multiple books at once. Even when you are enamored with a book, you can still get too much of it at a time! It’s good to have varying levels of complexity to accommodate a person’s varying levels of mental energy and focus that they experience throughout the day.
I've recently started thinking I may have undiagnosed ADHD...This book hit for sure! I used to love reading in elementary school...I could read small chapter books in just a couple hours. Then toward the end of high school and now, I can barely comprehend lengthy books...I often find myself going back to see what I missed 🥴
I have so many books I wanna read/listen to, this has inspired me to organize around it!
I just love how JetPens keeps bringing us high quality content outside of their usual theme. I love seeing videos by them :'))
May be i am reading 15 ---- > 20 , books in a year , All very nice .
Which phone it is?? Name?
I read around 36 books in a year because I like to read three books minimum a month.
When I was 8 I read 100+ books in a year. Now I am reading 200+! :) I hope to get to 300 soon! This video really helped! Thanks and wish me luck!!
Wow that's amazing! You got this!
I read one book at a time. I average one or two novels per week, depending on the page count. And I take extensive notes.
This phone name??
I read one at a time, mostly. Sometimes I have a book that I carry with me to read, and one on my night stand. I don't think I could read so many at the same time. I would get confused!
Jetpens, once again you are doing a fantastic job at watching the current trends on RUclips and executing them perfectly!
(6:07) The terrifying tales of the haunted microwave.
😂😂😂
@@JetPens but the microwave actually looks super cool tho
I was expecting the food to crawl out of the microwave in the middle of all that flickering.
That is one of the better microwaves on the market, an old grad school buddy who's son is now at SUNY New Paltz has one and he makes popcorn in half the time the guy across the hall makes his in his Sanyo microwave.
This was a lovely video. What a great way to encourage reading and trying new things and also highlight practical way some of your products can be used. Just remember to take time to reflect and think about the books you read, or it's all just background noise for your brain, not that there is anything wrong with that.
Loved this video!!! I appreciate the reading time management tips and organizational recommendations. I think it will help many (like me) approach reading in a more structured way, which helps with one's motivation and momentum. Also, it was nice to see stationery recs for reading tasks. As I approach 2022, I will try to see how this aids my reading goals moving forward. Thanks for making this video!
As someone who struggles with time management, I found this super helpful and a great way to see how tools are utilized. I wish I had discovered this last year!!
I love this video so much!!!!! Tip #2 is a great use of magnet bookmarks (I have a couple but I'm not overly fond of using them) so thanks for sharing the idea c: Using a key/color coding which books you're reading for the week is such a cool idea too, so I'm definitely gonna be trying that one out as well.
I finished my 99th book of the year today. I mostly listen to audio books. Still this is more than usual for me and is due to the unusual year we've had. I've read, Travels With Charley and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Both great books.
You read 99 books in 6 months???
@@km-jf3pu yes but this normal. Usually 100 for the year.
good job jeez i could never lmao
When this video popped up on my feed I thought it was from the BookTube side… what a nice surprise when I saw the JetPens logo coming in! This was such a nice video, with tips, showcasing of your products, ASMR-y sounds and a peek behind the scenes. Loved it! Thanks for sharing!
How did you know I was getting back into reading again? I used to be a voracious reader, but then hated it starting with upper level English classes and onward. Nearly a decade after high school, I have returned to loving books. 😊
I’m having a hard time right now getting back into reading. I’m about to graduate college and every-time I try to sit down and read I feel so unproductive. I also used to read constantly as a child and would finish books in a day if left alone. Something in me just can’t keep attention like that anymore.
I’m gonna keep trying!
@@Big0leBee Being out of school really helps. I recently graduated, too. Wishing you the best for your journey!
I read 100+ books a year typically. When I lose interest and want to get back on track to my 100 a year goal I reread a few old favorites. Because I've read them so many times it's a quick and easy read. And that typically reignites me to sit down and read new books
Wht is this phone name
This is quite a goal! Good for you! Listening to audio books on my commute helps me a lot. And reading on an e-reader at night on a low screen setting helps my eyes. And when there's nothing good on TV, turn it off and read!
I’m loving the vlog style video, thanks for the tips!
Thanks so much for this video! I made “reading more books” a New Years resolution of mine, but so far I’ve only read 2 :( these tips and everyone in the comments are very encouraging 💖
One of your best (and certainly more enjoyable!) videos I've seen. Great job on this one!
I just love watching videos on your channel. I’m a stationary fanatic and a big fan of JetPens!
Helpful video I added some of the books to my TBR list. Please make more videos like this.
Wow, these are really great tips! A very cool change of pace for a video topic too.
Librarian checking in! Piranesi was weird but interesting. It's also short, so should be a fast read. If you enjoyed it, I'd recommend Ten Thousand Doors of January and also The Starless Sea. I've been using Libby everyday to read and listen to ebooks from the library. Remember to use that library card!
I really loved Piranesi! Read it just this year.
I usually read about 20 - 25 books per year. I'm going to incorporate audio books into my reading plan. John Steinback is one of my favorites as well. I did a thesis on his works for my undergraduate English capstone. Thank you for sharing this video.
Thank you for sharing this. Please keep us updated. Maybe one day show us how you keep your workflow so organized.
I read around 50 books last year this year is much more slow 😀 thanks so much for the tips O really needed them. And i love the new kinds of videos u make!I just want to say I love the new videos jetpens are making! 💕So motivating and productive ☺️😀🥰😍
Thank you so much for the captions!
This is really great! I’d love to follow through on this routine❤️
I’m reading and studying through each book of the Bible. While I don’t give myself a timeline and do make sure I do a bit each day along with my regular reading in the Bible.
I got back into reading this year after a two year reading slump and so far I've read 33 books and love how I can manage my time with reading
I can absolutely vouch for scheduling in reading! And it doesn't have to be this formulaic either. I try to read before bed most nights and listen to audiobooks whenever I'm doing drives longer than 30 minutes (i.e., errands, visiting family) or when I do mindless work like cleaning. The hardest part for me is always actually starting to read, so having it "planned" kickstarts my "need" to do it, and once I do, I usually enjoy it! And honestly, if you're not in the mood to read, don't force yourself!! Even if the subject matter isn't enjoyable, I personally believe your reading experience should be.
Thank you, that was a lovely video, I use good reads for tracking my books 🙂
I learned how to read when I was 4 years old and since then I have read thousands of books, I probably read somewhere between 150 and 200 books every year. I love your videos!
I feel so calm right now. Right now, I could do a million works without giving excuses. That is because of the video's effect on me. This video was just so peaceful and motivating. loved it
I really enjoy your quiet ASMR like videos! ❤️❤️❤️
Jet Pens putting out Booktube content?? Here for it!!
I loved this video it was really relaxing and inspiring.
Love how this is different from JetPens other videos! I hope there's more like this coming :)
Yes! A more Korean/Japanese daily life blog style aesthetic!
I have the exact same bed spread. The classic studyblr duvet. 😌
Reading goals. I like to read books about ancient history as well as modern thrillers and anything that has a conspiracy 😍✨
thanks to this video I am reading every single day! during lunch at night sometimes even at breakfast who would have thought one video would make me productive
i also forget to put the , sorry!
Love Caitlin Doughty; met her briefly at a book signing as I was selling the book
ive just started summer reading :D ill definitely try these out
This video is secretly ASMR and I’m loving it. 👏🏻
Really loved this video.
Although I am an introvert, meal times are generally spent with other people so I am not 100% sure these tips would work for me. What's worked for me is having books on my cell phone, so I can just open them up whenever I have some downtime and they help me unwind at the end of the day.
This is a great video! I learned a lot and also got some book ideas! Could you please share where to buy the toast hot pads for your dishes? They are super cool!! Thanks for the video! I will refer back to this one regularly.
The six of crows duology is one of my favorites!💕
2:00 now thats the purpose of the magnetic bookmarks 😆 i have three of them in my stash and barely used it because im scared i might break it 🤣
I listen to audiobooks on my commute; so about 2 hours a day. I usually also have a paperback book I read at home; some evenings and maybe a few hours on the weekend.
JetPens should definitely do more of these vlog-type videos!
using bread as a coaster is a bold move and I'm all here for it
Travels with Charley is one of my favorite books. Enjoy 🙂
So calming 🥺 do I need another reading journal?? 😆 maybe…
I’m a fairly ambitious reader myself, and I think it’s a good idea to use little time slots that you might otherwise have wasted flicking through the “news” on your phone for something more substantial, but with a tight routine like this, don’t you run the risk of turning what should be an enjoyable pastime into a bit of a chore? It seems there’s no room in the schedule to savour a particularly good piece of writing, or just to stare out the window and ponder what you have just read.
It was great to get a look behind the scenes of your videos, by the way. You really are creating a whole new genre here.
The Henrietta Lacks book is amazing!
My goal is 100 books and I have already reached 92! I'm soo happy, it's my first time reading such a high amount of books and all of these were such amazing books too💓
omg so jealous of those who can work in a stationery heaven 😭🥺♥️
Three cheers for some George MacDonald on the big TBR list! Def read Lilith before tackling Phantastes, and if you can't get into At the Back of the North Wind, you're not alone. Another good one is the modernized edition of The Flight of the Shadow.
I'm not the type to enjoy reading different books concurrently. I also don't enjoy audiobooks, but I HIGHLY recommend them for anyone with a significant commute time. I don't really set numbered goals for my reading - I'm a naturally voracious reader (seriously, I'm a librarian!), so I don't find it necessary. But I do like things like book bingos that encourage you to seek new types of authors or stories out - its easy to get in a rut and find yourself reading less.
I Hope I Can Read Some Books (Maybe 3 in 1 year) Thank You JetPens!
I have the EXACT same editions of Six of Crows and Howl's Moving Castle! I read SoC recently and am planning on reading HMC soon so I am SHOOK!
Can youdo more reading vlogs/vids? I kept coming back to this one😂
One of my fav book was on the list ☺
The Alchemist still my fav book! Maybe I need a recomendation 🤔
I recently discovered this video and really enjoy it! I'm going to try this method and see if I can get my reading numbers up. Also I would love to know what Videographer is eating for lunch and dinner in this video - those bowls look delicious 😋
Good luck! Glad to be a part of your reading journey. As for Videographer-san's meals:
Lunch: sauteed purple kale, tofu mince with basil, rice, and sriracha on top.
Dinner: chickpea potato curry, rice, cabbage sabzi
For years, I said I'm reading about 100 books per year, based on the fact I generally read 2 books per week. Since I'm bulleting, I'm making lists of books and actually I'm around 100. 2021 : 102, 2020 : 107, 2019: 99 !
Oh my gosh, I've read Six of Crows and I'm surprised you're able to put it down after the alloted reading time!
Ayyy, I read Caitlyn's books too and I love them!!! Deathlings unite!
I read about 1-3 books per month. I have other hobbies also and I never took reading books as a challenge. I read whenever I like and I can't read while doing anything else. I'm happy with it, so no complaint.
Really nice , Thanks .
The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks is so good!
If you read while you eat, does this mean you always eat alone and undisturbed?
I read 134 books in 2020
I noticed you use Libby, I love that app so much!!
Wow that's impressive!
@@JetPens thanks!
I feel like this system is only necessary for people who don’t actually like to read. If you love reading you don’t need a schedule to help you read.
People can love to read and still procrastinate on it, schedules help put things we love into our lives to not forget them and to use them as distractions or moments of calm out of how busy our days can be. No one should feel ashamed of this.
i disagree, i love reading, but i rarely do actually read because i either don't have the headspace for it or haven't planned my day properly, everything is hectic and i don't know what to start doing when. if someone leads a busy life and needs to say "okay these 30 minutes is my reading time", then let them. don't shame people for needing to schedule stuff, it just means they're putting an extra effort towards reaching a goal in their life.
could you also please link the coasters ? I've found similar ones but much thinner and they don't look as good thank you
I read about 3 books a month and an additional 100 pages of scientific literature a week, at least.
Just keep reading and it gets easier to focus!
Interesting video! I’m a former physical book lover converted to ebook lover. It‘s so easy to pop up your phone on a stand and just start reading during meals I spend alone, plus I only need one hand occasionally to swipe to the next page. I enjoy listening to audio books and podcasts while I decorate pages in a planner or journal and while doing „boring“ tasks such as doing the dishes. What I couldn‘t do is keep up with reading more than two books max. at a time (one fiction + one non-fiction one, preferably). If I start reading a book, I want to keep going regardless of time of day. Something I don‘t do either is make an organised list of my TBR books. I do have a TBR list, but I usually just start thinking about what to read next once I get to the end of a book and then pick what I‘m in the mood for. I don‘t manage 100 books per year, also because I don‘t always read books with „just“ 300 pages (the one I finished today had 900) and because I also listen to podcasts or RUclips videos during meal times or while tackling tedious chores.
Now I am curious what your longer read was... The Way of Kings? Behave?
@@mjbe Oh no, it was none of them - it was a historical novel in German called "Hiobs Brüder" (Iob's Brothers) set in 12th century England. The author, Rebecca Gablé, is quite famous for her well-researched historical novels in Germany, but only two of her books have been translated to English so far.
@@jessplansandwrites Cool to know! Getting a sample of the English translation of one of her others now to see what it's like.
I love reading, but lately I noticed that I can’t focused enough. That’s why I decided to read more webcomic/manga/manhwa instead. I’m hopeful that my enthusiasm for books will comeback sooner or later 🤞🏻
I'm a fairly voracious reader. Not sure if I've read 100 books in a year, though. Some I read take time. Like when I read Gibbon's Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire (six volumes, written in the 1700s...) Took a while.
All depends on what I'm reading, really. Paperback, I can do about one a day, in my spare time. (Used to go through a book a night when I was doing night time home care. Rest of my waking hours were doing other things, so...)
Good incentive to improve my game. 😁
I read my fair bit of fiction but i dont set a goal because the fiction books i read can vary from 300 pages-almost 900 pages, recently started going into the world of non-fiction and im loving it :D
i also try to read a few japanese books so that i wont get rusty, seeing as i rarely get the chance to use japanese in my day-to-day life, including light novels, manga (got a lot of that 0-0), and books like I am a Cat or The Tales of Genji
Some great fictional starters:
Keeper of the Lost Cities (long but it ropes you in!)
The School of Good and Evil (really twists the concept of fairytales and origins)
Harry Potter (do i even have to explain myself!?)
The Land of Stories (another different perspective on the fairytale world)

@@JetPens anything to get others into reading more
I guess im really bad at reading…it’s the first time i ever contemplated the notion of reading like watching a series…you can start more than one at once. I always just, try to read one. I cant quite wrap my head around it yet hahaha
Beautiful video, very inspiring (not to mention all the stationery items you made me want now!). The only thing I disagree with is audiobooks - they might be fun and sometimes easier, but to me listening is not reading. Different experiences!
I like listening to audiobooks when I'm using my hands but not my brain - like when cleaning the kitchen or working on crafts
I’ve been trying to get back into reading. Starting with Hamlet.
I didn't know there's a reading routine i just only whenever i feel like to
Bravo!!!
I almost exclusively read fiction before bed, I think non-fiction is too demanding for my brain before falling asleep. If it's something that I want to take notes on I read it earlier in the day at my desk. I also only read 1-2 books at a time, because I get almost all of my books from the library so I can't hold on to them for too long. I see it as a good thing, as the due date forces me to read more. One more thing, I've been using Storygraph this year to track my reading and I like it as an alternative to goodreads. I might go back to tracking on my own in notion or a spreadsheet next year, though.
I have that duvet cover!
I treat my reading sessions like my gaming sessions. I don't eat or drink while I'm doing something else. At our home, when eating you should be sitting at the dining table making conversation with your family and friends. No electronics, books, or any other devices/items should be near or on the table. No elbows either.
I used to read 100 books every summer then about 25 during the school year. I got out of the habit after graduating high school, but I want to get back into it. What is the name of the audio book app that your videographer is using?
Great video. What audiobook app was used here? I like the timer option.
Libby!
