    Great video! One thing though - the Canadian Senate can and does initiate their own bills in Parliament. This is by far less common than the HOC initiating bills. In fact, only roughly 10% - 15% of Bills reviewed in Parliament came form the senate. This said, the Senate can and does create bills.
    However, there are certain types of Bills that can ONLY come from the HOC. The first are any Bills relating to Money (including taxation or the allocation of public funds), the second type of Bill that the Senate cannot create themselves are any Bills that are considered of "constitutional importance." Any Bills that impact governance, or constitutional matter will only originate form the HOC.

    Forgot to mention that if the US President vetoes a law, Congress can override the veto with a 2/3 majority vote, but that hardly ever happens.

    Well done. I may have missed this, but the Canadian Governor General, not the Prime Minister, is the Commander-In-Chief of the country's armed forces. Yes it's mainly ceremonial, but in theory it could come in handy if the PM, as Bat Guano might say, tried some preversions 😅

    Great video. I think an interesting topic to cover would be the difference between election funding. As a Canadian it's always baffled me how much money has to be raised and spent in America to win certain elections.

    The US Speaker of the House is much more comparable to the Canadian PM, because the Speaker is the third most powerful elected official, and is the leader of the party in power in the House.

    The king is not really in charge in Canada he is really there as a figurehead but doesn't actually hold any real political power and is mostly there out of respect. He does exert some influence with that said respect but doesn't have the power to actually enact policies without the states consent.

      What I don’t understand is, if Canada won its “independence” from the UK in 1982, then why does the Monarch still need to aprove Canada’s laws by way of a Governor General? It seems to me, Canada is not an independent country at all.

    In the US, any bill that requires funding or the budget must start in the House of Representatives.

    • @judearcher890
      @judearcher890 Год назад +1

      yeah this seems important to note; generally bills start in the house and the senate just requests changes if it has problems with the bill

    • @timothyfrantz9443

      @@judearcher890 Exactly. The House of Representatives is where the vast majority of legislation starts. It is called the “lower chamber” yet it is the powerhouse of Congress.

    The Founding Fathers of the US, on purpose, created a system that was slow to change.
    We want it that way; at least from the US Conservative perspective; slow and steady creation of laws is better than rash and one-sided.

    "majority governments can be won with 35-40% of public support" - is this a mistake or are you saying more than 50% of the seats can be won with only 35-40% of the votes?

    • @godzonic
      @godzonic Месяц назад

      Yup. Exactly. Its because of division of the remaining groups being less than the 'majority'. 35 percent only leaves 65 percent so if the next runner up has 34 percent the remaining amount is 31 so the 35 is the 'winner'.

    I'm interested in comparisons but apprehensive of the emotions that surface when I hear things that I know aren't true. When I think it through I KNOW it really doesn't matter and it's inconsequential.
    Why does it bother me?
    Anyways My fingers are crossed that I don't 🤪 get triggered by this comparison.

    It's not the British Crown ffs. The Queen (or King (barf)) is the Queen or King of Canada, completely independent of the fact that they have a part time job as the British Crown too.

    • @futuresequence.
      @futuresequence. 2 года назад +2

      We don't have better health care service in Canada. It's a human right here so we have universal care however the biggest downfall is it's not as efficient as American health care. Don't get me wrong, it's cutting edge care provided by great doctors, but not better. American politics are influenced by private dollars coming from people that stand to profit from health care not being single payer. Hopefully you're still reading because this next fact is what I always tell people that blows their mind if they didn't already know. Healthcare in Canada is free, paid by tax dollars. Healthcare in America is not free, but per capita the American government spends more on Healthcare than the Canadian government. Americans are being robbed by the Healthcare system. It's truly a sad situation.

    • @laurel7175
      @laurel7175 2 года назад

      You are right. In America we pay through the nose with high premiums and health costs. It's a big business for government and Big Pharma. They are making a killing off of us. My personal opinion is people are better off taking care of their bodies by eating clean, non GMO, chemical free food. Organic, grass-fed is the way to go. I got off all medications and actually improved my health. Healthcare in America means doling out prescription medication nothing about nutrition. Then more prescriptions for side effects from the already prescribed pharmaceuticals. They vac cinate you and feed you gmo and chemical laden processed food all this will lower your immunity. A pill never cured anybody. But food is medicine. I wish more would realize to this. Take care and God bless!

Truly a sad situation that can be fixed pretty easily
