Sad that mom was treated like that in her years of marriage accepting beating was a customary thing not knowing it was a very abusive way of living. Women should always be loved and treated with respect not to be slapped or taken advantage of. FACTS!!!

I don't believe she needs therapy, maybe when she was younger. I see how she didn't like it when she saw her own daughter getting a beating, for example. I remember I, an Asian MIL, mistreated her daughter in law while she was pregnant. The mother in law daughter's future MIL overhead the mistreatment. Well, the daughter in law miscarriage because of a task she had a problem with. Once her daughter got married, she came for a visit, and she saw her daughter being mistreated by her mother in law. Then, both MIL have a discussion. The 2nd mother in law said she has some nerve because she made her own daughter in law miscarry. It opened up her eyes to the fact she was a bad mother in law. Hurts to see your own child mistreated, then don't do it to someone else's

I have 2 boys and I taught them to respect women especially their wife .
To my 2 daughters in law I said if my son ever disrespect you I am just a phone call away so far one has been Married for 15 years and the other for 10 years and I have yet to get a call from any of my 2 daughters in law . As a victim of domestic violence myself I will not allow that type of behavior from my sons .

I worked in a county hospital's ER and saw many cases of violence brought in by police of other family members. They were,[ from many], different cultures, social & races.
Most violent acts are targeted at a mate & and sadly, sometimes the children. And accepted as a social norm within their families & cultures. But later, generations refuse to continuously accept it and break the chain of violence that their parents accepted as normal.

Well she was taught an old fashioned way. Plus she has a son who knows jealousy. Maybe because she was beaten in her marriage, she doesn't want her daughter in law to benefit from his kindness . I think it was a good lesson that you treat people as if they are your own.
