This makes me rethink life every time i see some one that cant walk or was dealt a bad hand at birth, but overcame and became successful in whatever they wanted to be. This gives me inspiration, I am 100000 times more grateful that i can walk outside and feel the sun, and gives me motivation that I am capable of more! Strong people like her is what this world needs, i stopped complaining a long time ago, and i will continue never complaining about anything, as long as im alive im successful.
"I had a really bad day"
That made me cry.
you are too xiaolin
The most amazing TED talk ever! Thank You Janine, I'm watching this again after a year, still inspiring!
Janine is one of the most amazing people i know of. She was amazing to have survived through the accident, but even more amazing that she has been able and willing to share her story. I have a nerve disorder in my legs from a surgrey gone wrong that turned my life upside down. Janines story and strength is a major part of way i am still around today and will never give up on what i want. Thank you to an amazing women for sharing her story that brought light to the darkest part of my life.
This is one of the most incredible talks I've ever heard. I've shared this video with many people and they felt the same.
Having lived a very active lifestyle, survived things most people consider impossible, and now am mostly confined to a bed, I can relate to this. If this is the end, so be it, but I have no intent of giving up.
Awesome spirit!
great

She made me cry. I have so much hope for MY SPIRIT now too. Thank you for this inspirational message. 🙏🏽✌🏽👽
Dear Janine.
Your strength gave me strength and helped me a lot after a terrible accident I had. Thank you for that and I wish you a wonderful life.
What an inspirational story. I feel it was well balanced, with the sadness and laughter given time to settle before the next part of the story was told, making it easier to remember. I am going to use your story to help me to push myself to dream bigger and to keep going when things are hard. God bless you Janine "the machine" Shepherd.
Hi Janine, I'm so grateful I could hear your message today! Thank you for sharing it! I've been through some traumatic events myself the last year with sickness and injury and alot of what you shared hit home and is very encouraging! Bless you.
This is such a heartfelt story. I am so sorry for your pain Janine.
This is an incredible story. I can't imagine going through what you have Janine, and still thinking optimistically. I'm 2 years into a back injury that's prevented me from possibly becoming a state or national champion in taekwondo, and I feel incredibly grateful that I may someday have a second chance while others may not. You're truly an inspiration!
Hang in there buddy! I feel you.
As I am watching this, something is coming to my heart, which is very same feeling that I faced 4 years ago. Thanks Dear.
Have just watched this Janine - so inspiring. Love the in/out of body descriptions and also your awareness around choice and control over returning to life. 👏
Really inspiring story that touched the hearth of every human soul.
We're not human body living in a spiritual life, but a spiritual life living in a human body.
The most inspiring thing I've ever heard in my life! I'm 2 years post op from 2 spinal surgeries which haven't gone to plan but this has given me so much hope! Thank you x
My philosophy class brought me here. I'm so glad it did. Beautiful message
I'm here because of my Philosophy class too and I'm in love with this its so empowering
My financial business brought me here! Seriously!
my holistic health class brought me here
I admire your spirit so much. You are one of the bravest girls I have seen. I learnt from you that I shouldnt give up when I meet troubles. Sometimes something make me feel impossible and I give up. You make me know that if I want to do it and never give up to do it, there is always alternatives. Using all my power to improve myself, nothing is impossible.
Incredible.... just incredible. You are such a truthful, honest, humble and inspirational woman! You've taught me how to fly just by listening to you! Thank you for you!
First time I cried in a TED talk. Beautiful spirit.

Hi, Janine Shepherd.
Thank you. That is one VERY inspiring story - at least for those who WILL listen and understand.
How-wevver, it occurred to me while I was watching listening that, as great as your flying achievements have been and are, your greatest work may very well still be ahead of you - IF you have not already discovered that as a result of this talk.
Just my 0.02.
You have a wonderful LIFE. Best wishes. Deas Plant.
One of the best TED talks to date.
Inspiring story, told very well. Brilliant use of the chairs...the journey. Well done.

Dear Janine,
Your talk was really inspiring. On your own example you show us that wheelchair isn't the end of life and you can reach any goal. And all that you need is motivation and you shouldn't give up. You are very strong women.
Thank you for sharing your story,
Nastya
That was one of the most inspiring stories I've ever heard. Wow...

Goes to show how strong humans can be. brilliant & inspirational
Thank you for this inspirational speaker and story.
Awwww... one of the best ever. Loved it. Very motivating.
Thank you, Janine. I really needed this today
Had a spinal injury 4 years ago when I was 18 (suspected infarction at T9) and as motivational as this story is, it's a lot easier to be driven when you're immediately recovering.
For me at least, there's nothing more demoralising than putting all your emotional and physical energy into getting better, and still not getting any feeling or movement back, it's like running on a greased treadmill.
It's easy to go out and tell people about the strength of your spirit when you're walking again.
You ok now bro?
great lecture !!! God bless you
WOW that was amazing, so inspiring and true. I really hope I can do what she has done because I'm so lost right now.
THIS IS THE BEST TED TALK I'VE EVER HEARD, SOOOO UNDERRATED
yeah i second that. and i'm glad you found some strength from the talk... i wish you all the best.
VERY STRONG STORY, made me cry
GREAT , much love
thank you for sharing that!!! you're great!!!
Extremely inspiring!
simply amazing and inspiring story
Hello Janine,
Your story sort of reminds me of my own. I was so inspired by Your story and haven’t been inspired in a very long time.
We are not our bodies, we are our brains. The worst limits that can be imposed upon you are those you impose on yourself.
As someone who struggles with my own medical crap, stories like this are unbelievably inspiring. Knowing that someone who has a life that is so much harder than mine can take it on and succeed so beautifully gives me hope that I can do the same.
Janine, you are such a joy.
I wish i would have here kind of spirit, let everything behind and be ready to just go on and life, ignoring all the difficulties and just do what i want to do, without worrying what might be hindering me.
everytime i watch such videos it makes me think how blessed i am ! :)
i big salute to her!
hats off to her spirit!
I’m a student commercial helicopter pilot. I spent the last year fighting breast cancer and I’ve just passed my pilots medical. I return to school in march to finish the last 25 hours of my training and follow my dreams. I’m so grateful for your story and your inspiration
i love this, thankyou :) made me cry! :)
Thank you so much !!!
Very moving and well told.
This was amazing, I actually cried.
yeah, I was waiting for it until the end. good for her!
So much respect for this woman!!!
Some tears coming out...of joy!
Awesome message to those fighting to battle back from a spinal cord injury!
Its really an inspirational speech!
Yeah thanks man, seen this guy before, he is awesome! Although he was born with it, so his message is more about coming to terms with being different and his limitations than a sudden drastic change in your life.
THIS VIDEO GOT ME UP WHEN I WAS AILING...HANDICAPPED FOR FOUR YEARS DUE TO MISS DIAGNOSIS...LOST EVERYTHING IN TWO HURRICANES...WATCHED THIS RELENTLESSLY...IM OFF ALL MEDS, AND REGAINED ALL MATERIAL POSSESSIONS...I DONT KNOW HER PERSONALLY...BUT I KNOW ENUGH TO KNOW SHE IS PARTIALLY INSPIRATIONALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR MY RECOVERY AND THRIVING.
Janine, you have done a wonderful job of expressing the true identity of self separate from the attachment of the physical body. Yes, we are all connected in spirit by the one who is spirit and truth.
I too am a survivor of a spinal cord injury that left me in a quadriplegic condition. The same spirit of courage and identity you have so eloquently described is the same spirit that led me to triumph over the apparent hopelessness of my 59 year old broken body. I have also made a full recovery.
Thank you ❤
Whoever disliked this, your spirit is broken. Blessed you machine. Heard this on ted talk podcast.
