- Netherlands Agricultural and Horticultural Organization's Wytse Sonnema says there’s a broad sense of “frustration, anger, even despair” amongst farmers amid proposals for nitrogen reduction target plans.
Farmers are protesting around the Netherlands over the government’s new policy which would see the country slash nitrogen oxide and ammonia emissions by 50 per cent by 2030.
“There’s a map now outlining nitrogen reduction targets of 50 per cent nationally, 70, up to 95 per cent in certain areas,” Mr Sonnema told Sky News Australia.
“And imagine if you’re a fifth-generation farmer living on your land, making a living, being part of a local community, and you see a map saying that basically there’s no future.
“No future for farming, but also no future for the economic, social, cultural fabric of the countryside.”

The Dutch dairy farmers came to the US for cheap land, lax regulations to create mega dairy farms, the Dutch farmers are a big part of the mega corporate farm problem in US now.

SECRET COVENANT AGAINST HUMANITY

The poisons will be absorbed trough their skin and mouths,
they will destroy their minds and reproductive systems.
From all this, their children will be born dead, and we will conceal

As a Dutch woman myself, i thank you for covering this story, and i'm shamed to be a Dutch woman for many years, just because our government isn't doing their work correctly, they steal from the poor en give to the rich by taxes. The criminal activity has increased since this government and now the farmers are forced to leave their great jobs, and for what??? Reducing nitrogen??? Yeah, my ace!! They need the land of the farmers to build houses for refugees ........... Our Dutch farmers are 7% below the agreed ceiling in the EU, and with the phosphate even 14% below the ceiling!!! So there is no nitrogen problem with the farmers, just the dumb government!!!

The same is happening in Germany. They push so many laws on farmers and are making it more difficult for them. I feel like our politicans should do a mandatory "real" job before being allowed to go into politics. But no, plenty of them study philosophy or law for years and then tell everyone how to live their life. But if you really want to rule the country you should do at least one mandatory physical job in your life and it should be mandatory for them to have to interact with common people before entering into politics. They are not living in the same reality as many citizen.

I live and grew up on a farm in South Africa and can tell you that there’s no one who cares for the land more than farmers, much more than politicians and eco warriors ever could..
The farmers are definitely more valuable and true than any politicians or those eco warriors.
I'm from the Northeast US and our farmers got wrecked here when the government subsidized big agra to take all the water from the Colorado river and grow in the desert. Well now the water is gone but the "farmers" don't care, they are just raising prices and colluding with the government on the next scam: "climate change."
