  • On March 3rd 1960 , Elvis Presley took his only steps on British soil during a two hour military-tour-of-duty stopover at Glasgow’s Prestwick Airport.
Twenty one years later, Eddie McGuire drew on childhood memories to write this “ Prelude 6 “ for viola playing Presley fan Stephen Shakeshaft . Heartbreak Hotel , Love Me Tender, Wooden Heart , Jailhouse Rock and Teddy Bear , stand beside a much more ominous reference to the Vietnamese liberation front song “Free the South".
Played by Scott Dickinson, BBC SSO Section Principal Viola.

Thanks Scott for performing this Prelude so well & vigorously! The 1950s songs are referred to rather than quoted - my pre-teen memories of them resurfacing in the 1980s.
