    Oh brrrr 🥶🥶, we have fog cold and rain 🤦‍♀️. Love that book behind you on the table. Yes I keep my soil in the house and water by the vent to keep it warm. My onions are done, I’m doing chili 🌶️ pepper 🫑 and aubergine this week. Then everything else will wait for at least first week of Feb. Have a super week, stay warm, Ali 😶‍🌫️🥶🇨🇦

    Informative video. Sowed Tomatillos last weekend and they are already up! Still have cape gooseberry plants in the greenhouse at the lottie. Need to go up and see if they have survived. Plenty of out of date seeds to grow as micro greens. grow them in mushroom baskets. 👍

    I did the golden berry / Physalis / cape gooseberries last year, just 2 plants in fairly small pots in my mini greenhouse and even being neglected they still produced well and they store well too (I had them sitting on the side for weeks before doing anything with them. I really recommend making them into a jam, it's very yummy :) Main issue for me was they are spider-mite magnets!! Literally they were absolutely smothered in the terrors :(

    SNOW! Love seeing snow! Was thinking of you when i heard about the floods. Was you affected by it?
    Love those varieties you have. Oh that book is fancy! Did Allie or Tricia make it?
    How hot is too hot a chilli for you? I am trying to grow red hot chilli peppers and Thai Dragon, which is a bit hotter. If i don't have much success this year or like last year, which only gave us on RHC and 2 Thai plants, i might just buy starters and maybe see if i can get hold of a sugar rush or something different like that. I always forget to soak them but e did have chilli plants for 3 years before hand.
    We have been doing a phased approach with chilli spices with our child and they are at red hot chilli level, which is fine for us as we can make more dishes with them now and if we want to go hotter we can add the Thai Dragon for ourselves. I sometimes think that once the pepper gets to a certain heat level, if it has no flavour profile to them, other than being just freakishly hot, there's no point imo. If someone want to do it then go for it but i can't be dealing with a tummy ache or Johnny Cash the next day! lol
    Love the chilli necklace! Is it to ward off the devil with a virus? Have you heard of tiger balsam? It is like a vicks vapour rub but stronger, i think. I wonder if it chilli or a type of eucalyptus as i would love to make something like that for colds, etc. I blame Nik after watching make that bum cream stuff with calendula has been giving me ideas, also as a way to justify to hubby to buy a bunch of beeswax to make it. Thinking of it, what do vegans use instead of regular vaseline and beeswax for things like chapped lips? coconut oil but kept in the fridge?
    Turns out hubby and our child loves broad beans, although i am not so keen on them, like butter beans. Bit late for me to be organising that now what with ordering tomato seeds, etc but will probably give it a go later in the year for them. I still have a bit of a pea phobia from eating poisonous "mange tout" looking pods as a kid but am getting there. Love sugar snap peas, will eat peas if someone has kindly cooked and served me them at home. No problem with green beans, runner beans, etc.
    Love the micro green tower and looks ideal for things like mung beans but isn't normal micro greens meant to have light? Do you watch/ listen to The Beet on YT? It is the podcast channel for Kevin at Epic Gardening. It had a guy on talking about micro greens as he has a small business selling them and has a YT talking about how he grows them, if you are interested. It's called something like micro green gardening.
    Anyway have been waffling on again. Have to start thinking about taking these decorations down :o( I actually thoroughly cleaned out fridge today to reset it, after Christmas, whilst i was waiting for snow but i think really i was delaying finishing Christmas.
    Hope it isn't too wet and cold for you. Stay safe, especially going passed your old plot and the moats (have you checked and compared both plots in this weather?)
    Take care! x

      All ok here with the snow - Leicestershire has seen a lot of flooding and the allotment is looking pretty waterlogged (although not our new plots! yay). Allie made the book and Tricia made me the most gorgeous apron, but I forgot to wear that (I had planned to put it on for the kitchen segment). Most chillis are too hot for me 🤣 - Oh yes, time for the decs to come down now 🤣🎄

    Karmazyn is a pinkish coloured broad bean that grows to about half the height of the Aquadulce, so keep them to the front of your beds . I've grown the two Aquadulce varieties and saw no difference really. I've given up sowing broad beans early, its not worth battling with hail, rain, wind and snow. They all end up ripening literally the same week anyway .

    • @dogontheplot
      @dogontheplot  День назад +1

      Oh that's good to know about the Karmazyn. Yes I think the same about the aquadulce - I will just sow the seed together as if they're one variety. I've given up putting them out direct in autumn because they just seem to die on me. I have more success in the cells and then planting out in March.

  • @trold1969
    @trold1969 2 дня назад

    Hello Kerry and Dorie - didn't know you were allowed to walk in the beds in the polytunnel. 😅
    I'm still trying to learn the different bean types in Norwegian, and then understand which is which related to your English names. Very confusing still, but I'm sure I'll get there one day. I ordered everything I'd put on my wish-list at the organic seed shop, only to realise when it arrived that I'd put them on the wish-list to decide later which to try. So, 6 packs of different beans and I need to find somewhere to grow them by April.
    Cute sprout tower. Do you get just sprouts or will they grow to be microgreens in it?
    I've started purple bell vines under light inside and put some other perennial flowers out in the cold. Might wait until February for peppers. Even though they need some time, they last long in the autumn as well. Also not doing orange habanero, I've got dried and frozen to last me many years, I just use a tiny pinch now and then. But I found them very easy to grow. Hot or chilly, wet or dry, they just kept on growing and producing.

      @dogontheplot  2 дня назад +1

      Naughty pup!!! Just merrily trampling those brassicas 🙄 Haha oh no - beans galore for you! Perhaps save some for next year? The seed will still be good. I really want beans this year after last years slugaggedon. There's usually enough umph in the seed itself to produce a pretty good microgreen without the need for soil. I've just put my chillis to soak so will be sowing them tomorrow 🤗🤗

    Aquadulce and super aqua are basically the same thing. "SuperAD" is supposedly an 'improved ' selection but TBH I never found much difference so just bought the cheapest. then I got my 3 Broad beans , Crimson flowered, Mr Griefs Brown Flowered ( no relation but couldn't resist the name) and Grando ( or Grano - I've seen various spellings) Violetto, Non of which are Highly productive as some varieties you can get but I like the taste and you can always grow more can't you 🤣

      Grow them all Nick!!! Haha. Yes, I won't distinguish between the two aquas - last year I just bunged them in together in the cells. I do love broadbeans so the more the merrier! Thank you for the seed 💕🤗

    • @dogontheplot

      @ibrstellar1080 well last year was a write off for most things! 🤣 I buy from everywhere but I like @realseeds and the various seed saving/swapping communities like the incredible seed library and the seed saving network. Heritage organics is a fave too.

    Love the chilli necklace!!!! 😂🥰 I also suffer from loads of chillis and still want to sow a load!! Chilli Jam is a great idea!!
    When you save chilli seed do you isolate the flowers or is that not needed with chillis?

    • @dogontheplot
      @dogontheplot  2 дня назад +1

      There are just so many varieties with great names! I didn't isolate the flowers - but I do have some nice organza bags for next year so will be a bit more professional with my seed saving next year... I might do a comparison between the saved lemon drop and the true seed and see what I get. Good idea! Thank you Holly.

      @ that will be an interesting experiment. Have you ever ordered from Real Seeds? They offer an information sheet on how to save seeds for the individual seed you buy - different methods for different types of seeds apparently!

      Not in the UK - you can try overwintering them but I've never been able to - they are very cold sensitive so even in a greenhouse or poly they will die off - and I'm not having them in the house! lol
