I'm French but I have to admit that England were a bit better than us today. I thought the referee missed a lot of calls on French fouls. Could've changed the whole game. But you have to take your chances. Fairplay England and you guys are going to be serious, SERIOUS contenders in the 2 next world cups 🙏
You're 1:0 schouldnt have counted . There was a foul against saka before . You've got lucky today but somehow you still deserve it more than all the other remaining teams
@@thegoldenboy3799 if you think that was a foul on saka you're a lost cause, and boohoo you guys couldnt score a goal outside of a penalty, and barely had any clear cut chances. Stop being a sore loser.
@@siavashk608 you're the loser man England had the better chances Pickford is just a weak keeper. Definetly was a foul on saka everyone saw it . Watch the replays
@@thegoldenboy3799 england had half chances, they did not create enough at all, hence why their only real chances of scoring were from the penalty spot😭. And blaming pickford for either goal proves you know nothing about football and arguing with someone like you is pointless.
All good actions from England tonight exept for that last penalty. We can thank Hugo Lioris for that one cause he was godlike. France was mediocre at some point mid game. This one for us but still sending love from France to England
As a french, i want to congratulate England because they played very well. If think that France has more experience and maybe was a little more lucky, even if we misses important players. Im sure that the Time for England will come.
Typical Anglophobe. There is no ‘typical’ England fan. We come in all different colours, shapes and sizes. There is no ‘typical’ Spanish, Japanese or Australian fan and we are just the same. Please don’t tar us all with the same brush. Anyway (belated) congratulations France, it was such a shame you fell at the final hurdle. I was willing you to win. We will have to see what Germany 2024 holds!
I love Spencer man. Such a great video and way to put it. I’m American and I was rooting for you guys. Probably one of the few! I’m a huge Man United fan, so sad to see my guys lose. Hopefully Kane doesn’t get abused like the guys in the Euro
Im from Brazil and England absolutely deserved the win today! Impressive outing. But thats football for you, brazil had it in the bag and one bad play took us out. And the french were lethal. Hope England comes back stronger!
I think it's unfair to even call Croatia an underdog anymore. An underdog story happens rarely, like Morroco, Croatia consistently proves it's amazing at football. By far the smallest country left but by far the biggest hearts.
Croatia are not a Morocco, no. I would put them in a similar position to us (Denmark) going into the tournament. A dark horse who could cause problems for bigger teams if not careful, but not an elite team. They're not in the first 5 most would predict to win the tournament before it began. Croatia have only won one game this tournament, so saying they're amazing at football based on this tournament is a stretch. It's a good team that's hard to score on, disciplined with some great players in there.
Their ability to still compete after the injuries they've sustained is incredible in fairness. If we'd lost first team starters of the same quality we'd be in real trouble. Their depth is amazing.
I don't if anybody said this already but this is the best game England has played in my lifetime. Creative, dynamic and dedicated. I always saw Southgate as a football bureaucrat but this game made me bit my tongue. Great game. Lots to build on.
You can't call it unlucky when there's only one goal from a pen. People don't seem to understand that controlling the ball, having the possession ratio, doesn't mean you play the best. France controlled this game like they always control high intensity games: with counter attacks. That's always when they are the most dangerous, and proved it once more. Great coaching by Deschamps again.
@@thegoldenboy3799 When you make an affirmation, you need arguments to make it valid. You don't seem to have understand mines. Having chances but missing them doenst make it better than less chances that end in goals. Yes there were a few fouls for England that should have been given a freekick. But only one was in a dangerous position. Again, France play their game when put at difficulty : not allowing the opponent to score, getting the ball back, then fast counter attacks. They proved once more it's efficient considering their configuration.
french fan. agree with your take. I can understand english fans' frustration, especially with the ref not giving many fouls on Saka. I do think the pre-match mind games were a bit too much and in the end the victory was earned by whoever was stronger mentally, rather than footballing quality really. This young English team will be back!
How was it similar ? The dutch did absolutely nothing in 80 minutes and only were able to play and attack ( just with long balls) after Argentina made some poor subtitutions. Argentina were much better and definitely deserved to win it
I do not think you as Englishmen should be angry, you've had a great tournament in my opinion. From a Dane I would say you've been the most entertaining team to watch this World Cup along side the Portugal team. You were unlucky not to go through today, as you were the better team and I believe you would have gone through if that penalty was scored. If I was English, I would be excited because if you look at that team and the youth you have, then I think you will win either an Europa Cup or a World Cup with that generation.
Ultimately Englands response to this game should be positive as we had our chances which was unlucky and I still believe it will come home, Bellingham is 19 and I’m proud to say he is our best player. This generation definitely has another finals performance atleast until the NA WC 26.
I was rooting for France, but anyone not proud of England's performance is delusional and/or just pessimistic. Like many have said, England played better, and ultimately, the ball just didn't roll in their favor. Nothing to be ashamed of.
Discovered your commentary by chance. Being a frenchman, following also england for the last 25 years, i think you are right on point. Played better, lost, unfortunate, pehaps a little bit unlucky with refereeing. But what a powerful performance from england. Should have won probably but did not. People in france saying you did not play to your strength, the bench. Perhaps earlier decision could have edged it. Next time. Nothing to be ashamed about.
I actually thought England played better than France today . The sad thing is they couldn't score. They couldn't realize the potential they were building. France on the other hand scored two brilliant goals. I just hope England Football Fans can appreciete the effort this Team put in. I think they were really good and Pickford is just the best goalkeeper in the England Team I've seen in the last 40 years that I've been watching World Cup. Also I have to say my favorite England team is this team that's been playing for the last 4 years. They've reached Semifinals in Russia and Quarters in 2022 and they've been in the Finals in Euro. Just brilliant!
Spencer , you should be proud of England ! They were dominating the world champions you guys were amazing ! England played their heart out .. I wish my country played like England.
Italian here that really looked forward for this English side after Euros, really thought this was the right time to shine. England played well, France is a great team, depth off the charts, half of the starting XI missing and still plenty of quality and talent plus the experience of guys like Griezmann that in the new role connecting midfield and attack really makes a difference. The game was fairly even, I'm sure that if the chances that England had were for the French those were all goals. The one on one Kane/Llorris, some contended balls in set pieces. Just a lack of luck. It hurts, because everyone knows that if England goes through France the job is already done, a win against the title holder gives the boost in confidence that really makes a difference.
Argentina, Denmark, Tunisia x2, Panama, Colombia x2, Sweden, Slovenia, Paraguay, Trinidad, Ecuador, Iran, Wales, Senegal These are the teams England's beaten at world cups in the last 24 years (WC 98 - WC 22) Jamaica, Romania, Germany, The Netherlands, Cameroon, Nigeria, Argentina, Iceland, Denmark, Russia, England, Canada, Japanx2, Brasil These are the teams Croatia has beat in the last 24 years (WC 98 - it's first world cup - WC 22) Since WC 98 Croatia has been in 3 WC semi-finals. England has been in 3 semi-finals in it's entire history. Bear in mind Croatia only exists as a country since 1991. And England invented the game. I think it's fair to say that if Croatia are underdogs then at the very least so is England. And that's exactly the problem with England. Take a small country like Croatia who has amazing players but no one has ever heard of them outside Croatia. Livakovic the goalie is a far better goalkeeper than Pickford yet no one has ever heard of him apart from the 4 million people living in Croatia. Gvardiol is better than any English defensive player and again no one has ever heard of him. Modric is probaly better than the entire English midfield combined yet you claim Jude Bellingham is the best midfielder in the world? Who does he play for? How many Champions Leagues does he have? I know he's young and he probably will win one but right now Modric has more champions leagues than the entire England National Team. Watch clips of young Modric and of Bellingham now and you'll see Bellingham couldn't hold a candel to Modric yet again no one ever heard of Modric back then. That's without even mentioning the likes of Brozovic and Perisic. It's sort of an NBA syndrom where you think that if you have the strongest league ( which is also up for debate) you have the strongest national side. But in most of those big english teams the stars are not English but foreign - Jesus, Haaland, Salah with Foden being the only exception probably. England has a good side don't get me wrong but it's massively overhyped by the English media. To the point where that hype mixed with WC patriotism and the idea of ending "how ever many years of hurt" makes you deluded. And that delusion is best shown in the way you claim that Croatia are underdogs. Or even Morroco? When did England beat the likes of Spain or Portugal or Belgium in a World cup. A long time ago if ever. England had a good Euro's but so did Greece back in 2004. And they won it, you didn't. Plus England played almost every game at home. Greece beat the host Portugal in the final. Summa summarum - More realism - less dissapointment.

NEUTRAL FAN: Having watched the game for the same period as you, this game really stood out compared to old England performances. The boys gave it all and may be the luck was not there today. You are one of the few level headed England fans I have ever seen in my life for sure, specially across the Social Media ❤
I don't think it was really luck (other then the penalty in the first half, imo a penalty,) I think France, having won the world cup were just mentally there. England are better quality wise tho, tricky loss but missed potential this world cup
As a neutral I definitely thought England were the better team on the day and a bit unlucky with that foul from Upamecano on Kane not being given as a penalty. If you’re English, I don’t think you can be disappointed with the performance.
I've been cheering for England football team since 1986 and this is my favorite team. I'm not disapointed just a little bit sad. I'm happy that England played good though.
@@advenco344 it’s where the contact starts. I believe from a replay I saw, Upamecano first kicked Kane at a point where they were outside of the box. Even still, shouldn’t rely on pens for it. Pathetic performance from us
Personally, I’ve known enough situations in life where I’ve seen it play out to believe in good and bad luck. Bad luck breeds bad luck, failure breeds failure. I think this England team can do it eventually, though. And given what the players think of Southgate, I think it’s inevitable he will continue.
My biggest disagreement with you here is the opinion that this match was the decider for who was going to go on to win it all. It's a bit eurocentric and disregards the amazing world cup Morrocco and Croatia have done, and the incredible team spirit and heart that Argentina has shown. All these teams are really hard to beat and no easy opponent
Thank you for saying this! How deluded have you to be to think England is a better team than Croatia in modern history? They have more appearances in semi final and final than England 😂
Hello from Brazil, you are not irritated with England, but I am irritated with Brazil, we have excellent players but a coach who made many mistakes: First was to play 4-2-4, Second was to call up players out of gratitude and not out of technical issues, Third was not being able to change the team when necessary, removing players who were not performing like Raphinha or Neymar.
I like the fact you don't go full hate on Kane. As a french, I must say we got lucky there and I can understand how frustrating it is for you. Looks like the Three Lions team has a brilliant future ahead. That being said about the "who win this match will win the world cup", on the paper it looks right, but on the paper Kane would have scored the penalty. Morocco has a momentum, a fierce spirit and the whole arabic world behind them. And IF we made it through the semi finals, Croatia and Argentina are tough, experienced teams and they will have a huge thirst for revenge after 2018, where we beat both of them.
and no, I am not a French fan but I appreciated greatness, which is what this French team like the last one in the world cup is, pure and utter greatness, super talent, great coaching, play as a team, led by the best player ever who hasn't even reached his prime yet already led France to a world cup and scored more goals in the World cup than Pele did at the same age.
It was a fantastic showing from England l, obviously it's sore to miss the pen but like you said, I think we win more games than France if we play 10 times, Maguire's header, Kane's penalty miss, Kane's long shot save, kane not getting the first penalty shout, another day we win that game, well done England
I'm Danish, so I would like to think I'm fairly neutral. On the match: Fairly close match. It's small random moments that gives the goals. Tchouameni with an unlikely but incredibly long shot goal, the two pens for England (you can't exactly have that in your tactical gameplan) and then a good cross and header from Giroud. Neither team created much in open play, so I think today was a bit of a flip of a coin which it can be in these matches. I think some time after France scored, the momentum started to change. Whether that was England going more attacking and/or France going more defensive, I'm not sure what happened first, but you could clearly see that after 30 mins or so, that Shaw started to push further forward, which allowed Foden to go more centrally and get more on the ball. Constantly wanting it, and simply roaming and floating around the pitch. On Englands World Cup and Southgate: I don't think it's an overachievement nor a disappointment. You beat the teams you had to beat (perhaps beating USA as well, but you won the group with 7 points), and you lose in a close match to France that could've gone both ways. I don't think this changes anything. If you hated Southgate before, I'm not sure he's done enough to change your mind although it was a bit more attacking this tournament. If you liked Southgate before, he's not disappointed so there's no reason for you to hate him. Also to the whole Southgate debate, if you want to fire him, who are you getting? No, you're not getting a Tuchel, a Pep, a Klopp, a Potter or whoever you think of. Almost all managers prefers managing a club to a national team.
I don't think you're deluded at all Spen, I agree with you, I just wish that the subs would've been made earlier, just give the players a chance to get stuck in, get used to the game, is all I ask
totally agreed Spence, 2018 I was angry because it felt like we didn't play well, 2020 was kinda the same but also the fans let us down... but 2022 we stood toe-to-toe with the world champions and played WELL. I can't be angry with anyone, and in a way it's more disappointing because we were so close. It's good to be disappointed in this way because I'm really feeling the evolution from tournament to tournament of England and Gareth. I think Gareth absolutely gets the EUROs and people saying he should go are utterly deluded and short-sighted. let the team and manager keep growing together. I'm excited for what's coming.
also Southgate literally did what the angry fans asked and played 4 at the back, they can't be angry with him but they still are. Won't ever please them.
Southgate has to go. His in game management has cost us for the 3rd tournament on the trot. When we need to push on and try to win, he sits still. Too scared to make positive changes.
Respectfully disagree with you we've been conditioned to accept mediocre perfromances over the last 20 years anything slightly better is seen as success . We beat the small teams but the moment we play a half decent side we crumble also I believe its time for southgate to go love the content though.
Tbh i somewhat agree. Brazil lose to France in a WC QF, the fans will still all be immensely disappointed and be rightfully questioning what went wrong. We need to get the same mentality if we ever want to win anything - anything other than a trophy win should be seen as a fail
Kane has a job to do, put that penalty on target, if it’s saved so be it. The fact he put it over when it mattered makes it so much worse. Absolutely bottled it when it was in our hands. I feel Southgate’s tactical decisions came to the fore, strange decisions tonight and in the USA game, masked by a very talented side for the most part but I don’t think he’s the man to take us further
He's done it for us the past when it mattered most. Even the best players don't do it sometimes. Which tactical decisions were the problem? We created chance and looked good most the game. You could maybe argue about a couple of the subs but, as Spencer said, Southgate knows the players better than we do.
@@CRW5252 i could only recolect a couple of really good chances, france created more, and scored two of them ,and england ,weakness on penalties ,only one team played in the first half that was france, as usual england tryed to sit back and contain, in my opinion, like to hear ,other peoples opinions. thats, all opinions, and no lectures, claiming there right and your wrong .
@@CRW5252 he took saka off for mount, left Trent on the bench, left an ineffective foden on the pitch, we needed rashford on at 1-1. Lots of passiveness it feels, we never beat a team ranked higher than us and you look at Morocco and Croatia and what they are doing with a far worse squad. I feel a talented bunch has carried Southgate further than he is actually capable of taking us .
@@Ben_204 Saka coming off was an odd decision, I agree with that. Perhaps he was tired. Mbappe would have roasted Trent. Walker a better all round player. We are unlikely to play anyone above us in the rankings because there are only 4 teams that are. We got further/as far as 8 of the top 10 (us not included) You can't compare us to teams like Morocco and Croatia and ignore teams like: Belgium, Italy, Spain, Germany. The latter all have very talented teams but haven't got a manager that is getting much out of them at all. Finally, we have had more talented squads in the past that have not performed at all. We played some of the best football in the tournament and went out to the world champions. There is no shame in that. Southgate is our best performing manager for 50 years, partly because of a talented squad but also because he is a great manager (as we keep hearing from the players).
Unpopular opinion as a neutral. I think that the part of the problem is the fact that the English media hype up everything around England, that the only real way anyone would feel happy was if you had won the world cup. And I think that definetly has an influence on the players, even puts pressure on them because they think that anything short of football coming home is going to be considered a failure. Game wise, I don't know, you definetly could have won but I think that's the difference between the good teams and the best teams, France was worse at times but that's why they're one of the best, even when England was playing their best it wasn't enough. England is good. France is the best. At the end of the day, no shame in losing to a side as good as France. Greetings from Croatia, football may not be coming home but it may well find a new one for the next four years.
I agree but part of why we love tournaments is that we love to get carried away. If you look at our history we could be very negative going into tournaments but where's the fun in that
I know it sounds like an excuse and maybe it is but I really think the refereeing had a massive part to play to why we lost that match. It was so tight that refereeing calls do make a massive difference and the level of refereeing was so so poor. With a competent referee we go to extra time at least if not we win in normal time. Again maybe I’m being naive. Still want Gareth to stay on but if he goes I’d love to see Eddie Howe take over.
Gutting night but gave as good as we got (probably better) against one of the worlds best in a knockout game which is very rare for England. Bright future with players like Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Rice etc likely to be in their prime next time round. Another tragic chapter is added in the story of England at world cups 😭
What Southgate has done well is getting the team to beat teams they should be and not suffering another Euro 2016 moment and numerous others before. However, I don't think he's the guy to get the team past the top teams. There was the Germany victory in the last Euro's, but as more time goes on it's evident that that Germany is far from vintage and possibly the worst German teams I've witnessed in 30 years. The game tonight was there for the taking at 1-1 and I think the substitutes were odd and a bit late in the game. Saka was exceptional and if he wasn't injured, I've no idea why he was taken off. Can't really think of chances England had which you could consider a 'great' chance (ignoring the penalties obviously).
As an American, spot on Spence, I always respect you as the voice of reason, the result hurts, but like you said, the team can hold their heads high and look positively towards 2026. France have something about them at this point in time, it just feels like they will find a way to win
So England could beat a weak Iran, Wales and Senegal. Drew USA and beaten by the first decent team they faced - France. If Rashi starts probably they'd have won.
neutral: I think France just had their class players step up and deliver. As harsh as it is Kane being the captain and tied all time leading scorer needs to at least put the pen on target.
Nah. PKs are missed. Just a part of the game. If it comes down to that, something else went wrong. In this case, what went wrong for England was unfortunately part (bad) luck in that the finishes weren't there. And that also is simply part of the game.
I agree but in this case it's the truth. First goal should've been a foul on saka. We should've had a pen to go 1-0 up. Ref was shocking all game. As England fans we probably make the lucky excuse too often but today I think it was the case
I’m hopeful of where our team can be in 4 years time. Saka was top last night, Bellingham has been great, so has Foden. What are they like in four years?
Ultimately, we didn't create quite enough from open play. France clinical. 100% I think that there is a mental block for England. As a nation we put tons of pressure on the players and manager. If we won something, I think we'd win more and it would open the floodgates a bit.
Not angry. Top sport is fine margins. Ref was quite bad though. We were competitive and anyone over 30 will remember these games England were hopeless with no control of the game. This time we controlled the game and this France is a very good side.
Southgate once again showing his weaknesses with his favourites. Saka was the best player on the pitch yet he’s taken off for Sterling. Game changers like Rashford and Grealish given barely 5-10 minutes at the end of the game.
As a French, I'd say the only thing England might have changed that would have improved their odds was to focus a little less on Mbappé, and a little more on Griezmann. Reading the English press and the players' interviews, I felt like it was all about the anti-Mbappé plan - and to be fair, that part worked pretty well - but the real player you need to shut down if you want to beat France is Griezmann. But yeah, that was definitely the hardest game we've had in a long time, and it could have gone either way. I think that rather than luck, it was experience that made the difference, France just has a little more familiarity than this English side with those games that are played on a razor's edge.
As a French supporter, I agree with you, England pretty much owned the game and overall looked like a stronger team. However I believe England was missing a little something on the attacking side. If England had Deschamps as coach he would have made the substitution for Rashford & Grealish much earlier .... Great performance from England, you should be all be proud of your team. Now England should look forward and be prepared mentally to win Euro 2024.
These group of players are wasted on Southgate, people praise him because England have gone far in tournaments but if you look at the strength of the whole squad the expectations should be higher. He's game management against France was atrocious, needed two braindead challenges from France to almost bailout him out.
I think England right now is in the time period of the German team of 2010, young and still improving, getting better at playing together, and will properly gel in another year or two
That was a good performance from England. I think in 4 years guys like Saka, Rashford, Foden, Bellingham, Rice will be better in their professional peaks. I feel they have to be one of if not the favorite for Euro 2024.
harry kane will now earn the title of england’s best ever goalscorer in a random friendly against one of europes minnows rather than in a world cup QF against one of the best nations in the world which is still a crazy achievement but if anything that just sums up his career of 0 big game moments up perfectly
I’ve allways been anti Southgate since the very start . But this tournament has changed my mind . This team actually showed me they could win a major trophy playing the way they played .
I think when France took the lead they went into game management mode and tried to sit back and counter with pace, great tactical decisions by Deschamps even though England were better than he expected. But a great game by England outdone by a better tactician in Deschamps.
As a neutral, (Northern Ireland fan) I think the English fans and media go over the top with the quality of their players. The only true world class player is Kane, he is the best creator, best (and only true) goalscorer in the first 11 and does his bit defensively too. Whereas the rest of the other players are solid, but not exactly at their peak yet, not comparable to France or Brazil's players. Also, England haven't actually beaten any of the major teams in any competitive match under Southgate, and don't say Germany, because they have been poor for 4 or 5 years now and are just a big name. Also, sometimes the fans can be intolerable with how cocky or biased they are and that can add pressure onto the players. As for tonights performance, yes England maybe dominated the play, but they are very poor at managing games, as shown in the Iran match when failing to keep out the opposition, and then the rest of the teams they played throughout the world cup did not have prolific strikers to deal with, so the defence was untested until tonight. France scored after 17 minutes and after that all they needed to do was sit deep, so I think they could have hurt Englands defence even more if they needed to, so on another night I think the outcome may still have been similar. Most of Englands chances all came through Kane or else set pieces.
@@thegoldenboy3799 my point was morw that France let them play because ultimately the only way England were in the game was through set pieces and not through open play Also the fact you say "deserved" shoes you feel the big nations are entitled to be at the top. No, Morocco and Croatia earned their way to the top, the same way France had the grit to earn their place tonight
If the UK and Ireland host the Euros in 2028 then we’d be one of the favourites with Bellingham, Rashford, Saka in their mid to late 20’s and more experienced. 🏴
Very Happy to see England lose as a half Scottish Half Irish man, simply could not put up with the supposedly British but incredibly English biased media to never let me hear the end of it if England had gone all the way. However you English have a lot to be hopeful for the future, 90% of your squad will be in their prime in 2026 and I would say you have a strong chance of succeeding in winning a trophy within the next 10 years. The issue I have with the majority of English football fans is something you said yourself Spen, they feel entitled to a trophy, it seems as if for the last 10 years before a ball has even been kicked in a tournament all I've seen on Social Media and within the British Media is that England are considered one of the favourites to win, 2016 Euros was England's before it started, 2018 World Cup was England's after 2 games and this one was England's after beating Iran and other big teams dropping points in their groups. I think this entitlement amongst English fans actually has a negative effect upon the squad as they are trying to play to the fans expectations and are not playing as freely as if the media and English fans were hopeful of a good tournament and not demanding one.
You can’t ask for much better of a performance vs France. Ref was a joke but I think all the boys played well today. Game of complete fine margins. Gutted.
The only thing people can argue kane lacks to his career is his performace in big knockout games. He drags spurs in the league but then when it comes to England and Tottenham knockout games late on hes been downright unlucky/ let down or just not preformed. He really needs to end his career with some silverware just for the satisfaction of him having it along with all his goals and assists.
Let’s not forget that France are essentially playing with their B team given that they have injuries everywhere Benzema / Kante / Pogba / Nkunku and the list goes on. England on the other hand have their best XI on the pitch so if England can’t beat France’s B team how on earth are they going to win anything. Under Southgate every time they’ve come up against a good team they lost. Let’s not kid ourselves into thinking that Germany is a good side because they are not. They’ve only beaten the likes of Sweden and Denmark and the worst version of Germany probably ever.
The main thing for me is after the Italy defeat, I felt we could’ve done more, there was more to give. Today they gave everything, and on almost all other days it would’ve been enough! Proud of the lads!

All good actions from England tonight exept for that last penalty. We can thank Hugo Lioris for that one cause he was godlike. France was mediocre at some point mid game. This one for us but still sending love from France to England

Rashford had to come on earlier, foden wasnt testing that fullback enough
Absolutely spot on, Spence. Couldn’t agree more. We go again in 2024!
France were missing Kante, Benzema, pogba, kimbempe and Hernandez yet we still lost. Moment we come against teams that can win or its a 50/50 we lose.
We were missing a few players

I don't if anybody said this already but this is the best game England has played in my lifetime. Creative, dynamic and dedicated. I always saw Southgate as a football bureaucrat but this game made me bit my tongue. Great game. Lots to build on.
You can't call it unlucky when there's only one goal from a pen. People don't seem to understand that controlling the ball, having the possession ratio, doesn't mean you play the best. France controlled this game like they always control high intensity games: with counter attacks. That's always when they are the most dangerous, and proved it once more. Yes there were a few fouls for England that should have been given a freekick. But only one was in a dangerous position.

y’all were not better lmao. Y’all suck, literally one of the most boring teams i’ve ever watched
Argentina, Denmark, Tunisia x2, Panama, Colombia x2, Sweden, Slovenia, Paraguay, Trinidad, Ecuador, Iran, Wales, Senegal
These are the teams England's beaten at world cups in the last 24 years (WC 98 - WC 22)
Jamaica, Romania, Germany, The Netherlands, Cameroon, Nigeria, Argentina, Iceland, Denmark, Russia, England, Canada, Japanx2, Brasil
These are the teams Croatia has beat in the last 24 years (WC 98 - it's first world cup - WC 22)
Since WC 98 Croatia has been in 3 WC semi-finals.

Saka was honestly having Theo Hernandez on toast the whoole game🍞…. Idk Why southgate took him off :/
Always a balanced opinion Spence! I've always loved how you're very reasonable, not many like you.
and no, I am not a French fan but I appreciated greatness, which is what this French team like the last one in the world cup is, pure and utter greatness, super talent, great coaching, play as a team, led by the best player ever who hasn't even reached his prime yet already led France to a world cup and scored more goals in the World cup than Pele did at the same age.
Saka was the best player on the field during this game. He shouldn't have been taken out.
I agree with you. This game didn't deserve a loser after ninety minutes.
An english mindset. France scored more goals so deserved to win.
On the match:
Fairly close match.
On Englands World Cup and Southgate:
I don't think it's an overachievement nor a disappointment.
England will never win tournament as long southgate is manager
Southgate has to go. His in game management has cost us for the 3rd tournament on the trot. When we need to push on and try to win, he sits still. Too scared to make positive changes.

We are unlikely to play anyone above us in the rankings because there are only 4 teams that are. We got further/as far as 8 of the top 10 (us not included)
You can't compare us to teams like Morocco and Croatia and ignore teams like: Belgium, Italy, Spain, Germany.
If you look at our history we could be very negative going into tournaments but where's the fun in that
Talk for yourself. Luke Shaw is very good in United jersey as well.
Still want Gareth to stay on but if he goes I’d love to see Eddie Howe take over.
it really sounds like an excuse 😅
Gutting night but gave as good as we got (probably better) against one of the worlds best in a knockout game which is very rare for England. Bright future with players like Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Rice etc likely to be in their prime next time round. Another tragic chapter is added in the story of England at world cups 😭
Wait, how come Harry Kane isn't getting racially abused like the black players did in Euro?
In my opinion deschamps has like plans A-Z to win football games, Southgate has plans A-C
After seeing loads of people talk after the game what you say here is spot on 👏🏻
It’s coming home in 18 months 🏴
So England could beat a weak Iran, Wales and Senegal. Drew USA and beaten by the first decent team they faced - France. If Rashi starts probably they'd have won.
France are more than 'decent'
England aren't up there with France, Brazil etc, as much as the fans like to cope and think they are.
100% agree with your analysis and your sensibility is much appreciated
neutral: I think France just had their class players step up and deliver.
Gutted is an absolute understatement. England were far the better team

I agree but in this case it's the truth. First goal should've been a foul on saka. We should've had a pen to go 1-0 up. Ref was shocking all game. As England fans we probably make the lucky excuse too often but today I think it was the case
England played 4 teams they were expected to destroy and then played France. They went out at the earliest possible moment they could have.
Southgate out
I’m hopeful of where our team can be in 4 years time.
I think England right now is in the time period of the German team of 2010, young and still improving, getting better at playing together, and will properly gel in another year or two
One of the most level headed reviews I've ever heard. 👌🏾
That was a good performance from England. I think in 4 years guys like Saka, Rashford, Foden, Bellingham, Rice will be better in their professional peaks. I feel they have to be one of if not the favorite for Euro 2024.
Civil and reasonable commentary. Thanks, mister Spencer.

the game was 50/50 today, england had more chances because of the early goal to france so they started defending more.
Wait, how come Harry Kane isn't getting racially abused like the black players did in Euro?
England didn’t come close to scoring a goal from open play, there was PLENTY OF FOOTBALL to be played by England.
*SOUTHGATE WAS THE WORST MANAGER AT THE WORLD CUP*
I think when France took the lead they went into game management mode and tried to sit back and counter with pace, great tactical decisions by Deschamps even though England were better than he expected. But a great game by England outdone by a better tactician in Deschamps.
Absolutely spot on Spencer!
"Could we have done any more" Scoring would b a start 🤔 🙄 🤣🤣🤣
England was way better in that game not sure if you are neutral but besides Brasil there was not one team that deserved it more
@@thegoldenboy3799 my point was morw that France let them play because ultimately the only way England were in the game was through set pieces and not through open play
Also the fact you say "deserved" shoes you feel the big nations are entitled to be at the top. No, Morocco and Croatia earned their way to the top, the same way France had the grit to earn their place tonight
Saka was England’s best player on that pitch see the difference between a spurs player and a arsenal player 😮
Rewind to 2 years ago. Let’s see what you say to that.
@@ledangkhoa3108 bros living in the past this is 2022 mate hope you enjoy englands plane ride home while we head to the semis Allez les bleus💙💙
@@kingponz6228 I’ll see you in the future mate where spurs win trophies, England win the World Cup and Arsenal go back in the mud.
@@ledangkhoa3108 the type of future you dream of will never happen in the next 10 centuries but keep dreaming buddy
@@kingponz6228 nothing is impossible my friend
Brilliant rational take, hopefully we hear the mainstream media make a similar analysis in the next few days.
England is always incredibly overrated.
You can’t ask for much better of a performance vs France. Ref was a joke but I think all the boys played well today. Game of complete fine margins. Gutted.
Wait, how come Harry Kane isn't getting racially abused like the black players did in Euro?
The only thing people can argue kane lacks to his career is his performace in big knockout games. He drags spurs in the league but then when it comes to England and Tottenham knockout games late on hes been downright unlucky/ let down or just not preformed. He really needs to end his career with some silverware just for the satisfaction of him having it along with all his goals and assists.
He really doesn't. If he doesn't have silverware, he doesn't deserve it
Chose not the play the best creative fullback ever in favour of defensive stability… then both goals come down walkers side. I prefer not to speak
Mbappe did nothing during the game but at what cost ? Targeting him so much was not the smartest move
This was the strongest showing of the Engeland team. In the Euros England was just boring. This tournament they deserved more
Let’s not forget that France are essentially playing with their B team given that they have injuries everywhere Benzema / Kante / Pogba / Nkunku and the list goes on.
Spot on spenc mate. it’s gutting we didn’t deserve to be knocked out just one of those days
Hard to take this seriously because lil spen behind big spen was smiling at me ❤
