  • Exceptionally not a restoration video.
    This time i purely assembled a beautiful Breitling automatic movement and tried to make a relaxing video of the whole process.
    So sit back, increase the volume of your speakers and relax ;)
    Some Infos about the movement:
    It´s the Breitling B17 automatic movement, a modified ETA 2824-2. It beats at 28800bph and the lift angle of the balance is at 52°. The referencenumber of this Breitling is A17035 and it´s made between 1992 and 1998.
    I hope you liked this video, if so, like, comment and subscribe ;)

    The true disservice is that the actual beauty that make up these pieces of art is enclosed and not viewable by the observer. The workings of the watch are beautiful and should be displayed or at least visible to demonstrate the engineering and craftsmanship that went into its creation.
    Very well done and your vids are always enjoyable as well as informative. Thank you.

    • @baze3SC
      @baze3SC Год назад

      If you take any part from any luxury watch it will represent just a tiny fraction of the overall price. Even high-status brands like Rolex roll the movements off the assembly line by millions. It doesn't cost more than $50 to make but they sell watches for 12 grand. It might cost you another 8 grand that you pay to the grey market dealer because you don't want to spend the next few years licking AD's behind. The value is somewhere in the $700..$1400 price range. That's the equivalent of what it was in the old days when people actually needed a watch for practical reasons.

    • @philthedrill2244
      @philthedrill2244 Год назад

      @@baze3SC you had me until you said a Rolex movement costs $50 to make. Raw materials alone? Sure. Value added (machining, assembly) you’re off by miles.

    • @baze3SC
      @baze3SC Год назад +1

      @@philthedrill2244 ...if you buy from Ebay. It's not like they're made of gold and the complexity is not an order of magnitude higher. In fact I'm inclined to believe that Rolex can make their movements cheaper than ETA because they have the funds to optimize the process and they don't pay any 3rd party for sourcing them. But even if I'm mistaken and it costs $500 to make it's still just 4% of a $12000 watch and that was the point. Movement is the most important part when it comes to function but not when it comes to price.

    Great video thank you! In reference to the previous comments, the underscore can make or break any production as many know. There's no reason RUclips couldn't offer the option of a simple stem mix, with a selection of a couple of distinct, score style options, and the natsound/fx and any announcer/vo seperate. Would be farily easy. this one might benefit from something less percussive, less subdivided elements and small percussion to compete with the natsound which this one definitely does., slower tempo, maybe jazz, classical, organic instruments. try a piece with some solo nylon string guitar, reverb, finger picking. Something Spanish in style perhaps. .

    Great video, just one thing: just lub the exit pallet of the anchor (this is the long arm) not both.
    Also i hope you lub the hammers in the reverse wheels after washed them, because they are prelub in factory and usually we don't wash them.
    And that is nice at the end you have 0 s/day but that is better if you had beetween +5 and +10 s/day.

    • @RedDeadRestoration
      @RedDeadRestoration  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for your input 👍
      The jar is not for washing the reverse wheels. It's 97% petrol and 3% moebius 9010. It's a dip-lubrication.
      Why is a +10s/day better than +0-1s/day?

    • @Simon-xx2wq
      @Simon-xx2wq 4 года назад +6

      @@RedDeadRestoration I never seen that technique for the reverse wheels but I will try !
      At your wrist the watch is in contact with your skin. The average skin temperature is around 37°C so the balance wheel with the spiral is close to that temperature when your watch is on your wrist.
      When you adjusting the watch on the timegrapher the room temperature is around 20-22°C. and you adjusting the watch at that temperature not the one on your irst.
      If you have +0-1s/day at 20°C (room temperature), with the heat of your skin the spiral gonna expand and create lose time. This is around 0.3s/day/°C.
      Quick example: 35°C (skin temp.) - 21°C (room temperature) = 14°C 14°C x 0.3 = 4.2s/day
      And add a little bit more for the difference beetween the 5 positions of test on the timegrapher and you have around +7 and +12s/day.
      Usualy, in watchmaking, we set the watch with +10+12s/day on position "dial down". This is a little bit complex ...
      I'm a professional, we learned that things in school, but I don't know if you are a watch enthusiast or a professional too !
      Sorry for my english mistakes, I'm learning ':)
