I’ll begin weight resistance and other exercise as I wean back down in dosage. I do want to be off of it, and insurance only covered 6 months of it. I did do compounds initially but they might be going away soon. I have about 10 more pounds to go to my goal weight, which will be higher as I build muscle. It has helped reverse the effects of the metabolic syndrome and lifted me out a hopelessness, feeling that no matter how much exercise or how clean my diet was, my weight just compounded on and on. Only 1% of those on GLP-1 have serious side effects and much can be done to mitigate the risks by certain habits. Best thing I ever did for myself.
Lower doses of these medications are very helpful. I’ve had success on 1/2 of the starting dose. I’ve also worked out 3x a week..: but when working out didn’t get my A1C in check, I asked to try Mounjaro. The GLP-1 detractors often never talk about using lower doses… but that SHOULD be part of the conversation!
Go to europe, they have found the wonder drug. I think its called walk everywhere and eat simple unprocessed food. The more unprocessed the better and small meals
I live in Holland, and people of all ages bike or walk everywhere. Americans are shocked when they don't see fat people. It's very strange how obesity has been normalized in the states. Why is illness normalized and embraced? Hopefully that's changing now. Also the buildings are old here so elevators are rare. Lots of stairs.
I was under the impression that these drugs are only available in high dosages? They come in a pen type syringe that administers a whole dose when you click
I use a holistic blend that activates GLP-1 naturally. It works for me. But the pharmaceutical companies don’t allow sharing of natural/God-created plants as medicine. It’s a shame.
I'm on mounjaro. If you eat properly, you do not burp, and most other side effects are the side effects of weight loss. I'm very pleased with my progress. If you resistance train, your metabolism will not fail. These glp1 medications are a tool that works as long as you're not just relying on the meds alone.
I've been taking Trulicity for several years and in the last 6 weeks I've felt like my last meal is always in my throat. I've lost 55 pounds. Lately I can't get motivated to do anything. Thanks for this information. I guess I need to talk with my endocrinologist about other options.
Maybe if you start at the highest dose you feel those side effects he is talking about. Staying at a low dose and having lifestyle changes seem to work just fine for many.
It’s working for me. 4 weeks on .25 and 4 weeks on .5. I move up to 1 mg tomorrow. Very few side effects. It’s been a miracle for me. I lost over 100 pounds on my own but Ozempic is helping me so much with the stubborn rest that wouldn’t come off.
I think this is exaggerated. I had some mild side effects with constipation or diarrhea on occasion but more so when you first start taking a GLP1 - i’m sure some people have more severe side effects but I believe a lot of people are taking more milligrams than needed toobtain a slower weight loss. Let your body have a moment to catch up with the weight loss. And strength training is extremely important along with eating protein at every meal to keep the muscles strong, especially as we age …I found it to come off rather fast so I never titrated up too far in my dosage and lost 25 pounds relatively quicker than, I would’ve thought. Also, I have had arthritis and two hip replacements in the past dealing with a lot of pain and I was never extremely overweight, but the lack of joint pain is a miracle along with the weight loss. I can’t say enough good things.
What he's saying constant nausea and all this negative stuff, has not been my experience. I also REALLY enjoy eating my healthy basic meals just like when calorie restricting at any other time. It tastes so much better. I've got no issues with sex drive or enjoyment of life generally. This isn't an antidepressant or naltrexone I don't know why he's saying this. I suppose the enjoyment of binging on a bucket of ice cream is no longer available. That doesn't seem like a negative though. Clearly eating a healthy diet and being very careful to make a lifestyle switch is part of having success long term. Expecting everyone will be unable to do this also does not make sense. Let's try being constructive? People who haven't been older, on the edge of T2 diabetes and fighting for years with their hunger probably shouldn't be so quick to judge. I've done keto multiple times and every other diet. Keto is very hard to stay compliant with, and on stopping the weight just piles on. In general, I can maintain no problem, but consistently eating low enough calories for weight loss was very, very hard without the semaglutide.
So don't eat low cal.....I am 65 and reversed t2D with meat only high fat diet ...about 2000 cal a day. Never hungry, lost 85 lbs. After 90 days...zero cravings for any carbs. Healthiest I've been in 30 yrs
I had far more nausea on keto than I ever did with Ozempic. All that fat had me sick constantly. I did keto long enough to lose over 100 pounds and even tried carnivore, but i just couldn’t stick to it forever because of the horrible nausea.
He speaks in such generalities, he loses his credibility with me. Those horrible side effects are certainly possible but not the norm….as most side effects are with all meds. He’s simply behind in his thinking but that’s understandable in the beginning of a new way of treating disease. It’s happened with many other treatment plans

I’ve been on Ozempic a year. I dont burp. I dont vomit.? I dont feel nauseous? In fact i feel great. I increased my fibre intake. Im not an idiot. I dont drink alcohol coffee or tea. My specialist has done recent blood tests and my trace elements are good 👍.
Well, this guy says things that are really scary. I have 8 days in tirzepatide and loat 4 pounds and almost zero sode effects, only a little nausea some days in the evening. No constipation, no real slowing in my process. Ia.eating very healthy, with a good amounf of fiber, a lot of water and healthy fats, andn the pount for this meddicnes is that we reeducate pirselves and change for good our habits. Don't expect to return to eat pizza, ice cream fried fast food and all that crap, don't do exercise and stay slim. The drug is only a tool, we are the responsible of do.the job. Is our health, our bodies, our lives.
The effect of physiological levels of GLP1, even if you were to 2x or 3x them (which is the maximum you could ever do with dietary means), are NOT to promote satiety. Its action on the brain at those levels are negligible. It's only when you 1000x or 10000x the levels of GLP agonism, i.e. when you elevate them to massively supraphysiological levels, that they decrease appetite and promote satiety. Do not confuse the action of physiological levels of GLP1 and pharmacological effects from vastly supraphysiological levels.
@@mouse6210 Absolutely. Do two wrongs make a right though? In principle, if the drug serves to make the required long-lasting lifestyle changes and it's abandoned afterwards then it can work. But I'm afraid the masters know what's going to happen in practise and it's not going to be pretty.
I was on Rybelsus last year and it stopped my peristaltic action where I got kidney infections, wasnt passing waste, and felt massively toxic. Had to do 2 runs with heavy duty antibiotics, and still am not normal. I hate this stuff.
I was recommended Ozempic but my problem is that my pancreas is making too much insulin and have chronic bouts of low blood sugar. Which seems counterproductive for using Ozempic. I suspect that I have an insulinoma. Unfortunately I don’t have any health insurance so I’m unable to get it checked out with a doctor. Because of the hyperinsulinmia, I’m morbidly obese with an eating disorder and can’t lose weight even with extreme calorie restriction.
I have had Diabetes II for 30 years. Three years ago after years of gut problems (treated as IBS/Irritable Bowel Syndrome) I developed a severe bout of a horrific condition diagnosed as Gastroparesis. I lost 18 kg in 2 months and struggled to stay out of diabetic coma. I was reduced to skin and bones and lost most of my muscle mass. (I was not obese). When I read about the effects of GLP-1 agonists I thought that they are basically creating the disease of Gastroparesis in patients taking them. I find it appalling how the pharmaceutical and medical industries are glibly mimicking a terrible disease, and patients are glibly taking drugs that are dangerous and permanent.
I felt it when he said everything goes grey, this is true. Things have gone downhill for me on tirzepatide, I used to take metformin and my blood pressure meds first thing in the morning but I had to stop taking those which broke my well maintained routine, I can't even enjoy alcohol anymore and have been sober for 3 months while my friends are gulping down bottles of wine having the time of their lives, I am unable to fit in some expensive clothes which I got just last holidays, loss of weight lead my physio to say that I can start lifting weights now which means I have to go to the gym now which sucks, my insurance won't pay for my cgm now because my doctor says "your glucose and insulin levels are excellent" whatever that means - please don't take this people listen to this guy (who is on the board of 2 companies selling metabolic programs) it's not worth it. Everything has truly gone grey for me to the extent that the only show I can watch now is greys anatomy, I have watched every episode four times now, smh.
Hello Dr. Bikman. I believe semaglutides stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin. I was wondering how people lose fat if insulin is elevated by these compounds. Is there a workaround that the body uses? Thanks for your work. Have a good one.
Big misunderstanding. It increases insulin initially, but the total insulin response to a meal is lowered, tyereby supporting the Carbohydrate-Insulin Model.
I thought about that too. It is possible that the body looses weight faster (due to hunger loss) than the effect of increased insulin has on creating more fat. A possible dangerous situation. Increasing insulin resistance can still lead to mitochondrial dysfunction, even if you look better in a bathing suit.
Actually have A Prescription waiting for me To fill for the 2nd generation glp1 but after this, I just decided no…..I have about 15 pounds to knock off. Cold plunging helped me Last Year, going to get at it again…
Killing me as my patients are coming with GP already started them on those medications as they "feel great"! So difficult to override , they don't want to hear

Most people are being over medicated on this stuff! Do your research!!!! As with everything, it starts with the dose. Look into microdosing. Lot of other benefits other than weight loss too!
Every time they think they have the miracle pill , it comes back with side effects eventually, no one tests it for years and years to see what eventually happens to the body and how it will affect mind, body, n soul 😮
Not to mention, that up to 40% of the weight lost is bone and muscle. When you come off the drug, you gain back weight, but mostly fat because the bone and muscle don't grow back very quickly, especially in older people. You end up being the same weight as you were before, but with less bone and muscle to support it. What a disaster. It just goes to show that taking a drug to loose weight is the wrong philosophy.
The body is hard wired to naturally adapt to fluctuations in diet and exercise from hundreds of thousand generations. Parma and processed food did not exist then.
Honestly never heard so much drivel in my entire life! Am actually laughing out loud. I’ve been on Mounjaro for almost 6 months - I have PCOS and it has been almost impossible for me to lose weight over the years. 6 months on Mounjaro and I’ve lost 46Lbs and am now at my goal weight. The first couple of weeks I felt slightly queasy (calmed using Rennie) and had constipation till I upped my veggie intake. That’s it. No other issues. Just 2 weeks of slight inconvenience. Yet he’s the expert in this field. I actually know someone who does have the paralysis of the intestines and is permanently disabled from these drugs. Informed consent and disclosure is most important here!
@tracyking93 did you not hear the man explain that his PhD lab was studying Glps right back when gastric bypass was just being introduced? 🤦🏻♀️ FFS the man KNOWS HIS STUFF. Those who will benefit from these drugs will need to balance it with the severe and often permanent side effects 🤦🏻♀️
The only ones who are benefiting from these drugs are the drug companies. Most people with typ 2 diabetes can be cured with a ketogenic diet. And obese people can also lose weight with a ketogenic diet. But eating a proper human diet doesn't generate profit for the drug industry.
How can giving you scientific information fear mongering? Would you rather try Ozempic and have frozen intestines without anyone telling you that it's a possibility or would you rather have all the information and weigh each option? I like being informed.
😂😂 Real scientific fact ..fear mongering? Putting a foreign body created in a lab to make $$ IN your body is always going to have negative consequences.
I hope it does induce some healthy fear. At least skepticism. My doctor put me on Ozempic for diabetes. I had the worst constipation ever. Quit after two months. Still had constipation. Went on modified keto, higher fat. My poops still get constipated like hell sometimes. Never had that problem before Ozempic.
If only it WERE real scientific fact. What he spouted was a bunch of garbage designed to support his own personal biases. I’m a Registered Nurse, I’ve been on a GLP-1 for nearly a year and a half. Believe me, I have my finger on the pulse of what is happening in the GLP-1 world. Most of what he said is pure rubbish. No, it doesn’t cause food to sit in your stomach for 24 hours, he just made that up! No study has shown it and I can tell you from experience it’s not true. It’s also not true that food noise goes away because you feel sick. I don’t feel sick. Just don’t have a brain that obsesses over food anymore. I also haven’t lost the joy and desire in doing my favorite activities, that was another made-up thing with no basis in science. And he also didn’t tell you that gastroparesis is a known complication of diabetes…as a former GI nurse I often saw this in practice, and all the people taking these drugs who have reported gastric paralysis WERE ALL DIABETICS. I challenge anyone to prove that it was caused by the medication instead of their pre-existing disease with a known predisposition for gastroparesis. I’m shocked and disappointed that this “expert” would spread make-believe “facts” not supported by the science in order to support his own bias. It’s just another case of “yeah you need to lose weight, but we want you to do it OUR way (eat less, move more), which we know by the scientific studies fails 98% of the time.” By the way, I reached my goal weight after a year on the medication. These drugs make it possible for me to stick to my healthy habits because they help to regulate my gut hormones that don’t work properly otherwise. I haven’t been this happy or healthy in over 30 years. People with obesity are sick, and they deserve compassionate, KNOWLEDGEABLE doctors and access to medications.
my opinion, not medical advice from someone who is T2D and is subscribed Ozempic 2.0 for BG control: Do not take O for weight loss. Hopefully there will be a scientific comprehensive study that compares results and side effects on O users that take it for obesity and those that take it for T2D. It seems those that have problems fall into the former group. I have ZERO side effects. ZERO ZIP NADA. I have retained all my passions and increased it for exercise and sports. I eat a protein based diet with some fruits and veggies for balance, fiber, nutrition, inflammation help (ie pineapple) and feel 38 years old ( I am 66). I work out 5 hours a day 6 days a week and shooting for a ‘lean out’ look or about 10-12% body fat just for the fun of it. I was unable to lose weight on the O because I still drank alcohol. Once I gave up alcohol, ADDED SUGAR and UPFoods then and only then did the needle move on weight loss. But you know what? You can accomplish no alcohol, no sugar and no UPF WITHOUT THE O! I REQUIRE THE O FOR BG CONTROL AND I AM GRATEFUL TO NOT TAKE INSULIN 2X A DAY VS AN O SHOT 1X A WEEK. Plus the O is great for heart liver kidney etc organ rejuvenation and maintenance. Thank you to everyone and anyone associated with the development of O. that said there is a market on YT for ad clicks to be negative towards O and this guest does a great job at this. Again, the O is a possible terrific solution if you are T2D. Strictly for weight loss? Individual results may vary. Good luck.

Try carnivore
Go to europe, they have found the wonder drug. I think its called walk everywhere and eat simple unprocessed food. The more unprocessed the better and small meals
I live in Holland, and people of all ages bike or walk everywhere. Americans are shocked when they don't see fat people. It's very strange how obesity has been normalized in the states. Why is illness normalized and embraced? Hopefully that's changing now. Also the buildings are old here so elevators are rare. Lots of stairs.
I feel amazing on my GLP1! My autoimmune symptoms and inflammation is gone. I’ve been micro dosing.
Stay low dose GLP-1 as an aid to comfortable intermittent fasting and make lifestyle changes. 👍
Why not just fast without GLP-1?
I was under the impression that these drugs are only available in high dosages? They come in a pen type syringe that administers a whole dose when you click
I use a holistic blend that activates GLP-1 naturally. It works for me. But the pharmaceutical companies don’t allow sharing of natural/God-created plants as medicine. It’s a shame.
So nice to see a scientist who is not afraid to speak out against big pharma!
You also need a throat scan.
Or talk to youtube about a Keto diet?? 😅
But you'll find Carnivore easier to stick to, as no carbs to stay addicted to, if you struggle with moderation!

Maybe if you start at the highest dose you feel those side effects he is talking about. Staying at a low dose and having lifestyle changes seem to work just fine for many.
Exactly
It’s working for me. 4 weeks on .25 and 4 weeks on .5. I move up to 1 mg tomorrow. Very few side effects. It’s been a miracle for me. I lost over 100 pounds on my own but Ozempic is helping me so much with the stubborn rest that wouldn’t come off.
Agree
Check out Dr Tyna Moore
I was kept on a low dose and it didn't go away.
Wow, fascinating and disturbing all at the same time. Thank you both!
@@Carnivore1959, that’s wonderful you found what worked for YOU…..healthcare is very individual and we should approach it that way.

He’s simply behind in his thinking but that’s understandable in the beginning of a new way of treating disease. It’s happened with many other treatment plans
Not mine either
I had horrible side affects after being on ozempic for a year. I’m still going through testing to try and figure out what’s going on. I quit it two months ago. Loved that it reduced my inflammation which helped my RA and that I lost 50 lbs, but had my magnesium and potassium dropped to dangerously low levels, my lipase is more than double the high end of range, my gut was constantly in pain with nausea after every thing I ate and my labs are all screwed up.
I also felt everything go grey on the starting dose of Saxenda. It scared me, and I felt better when I stopped.
BEN IS THE GOAT IN THIS DOMAIN.BOUGHT THE BOOK
I love Dr Bikman!
When you’re manipulating the bodies natural rhythm, the pied piper will retaliate in due time.
Yeah but isn't eating Doritos in essence "manipulating" ?
The pied piper is not real.
@@mouse6210 Absolutely. Do two wrongs make a right though? In principle, if the drug serves to make the required long-lasting lifestyle changes and it's abandoned afterwards then it can work. But I'm afraid the masters know what's going to happen in practise and it's not going to be pretty.
You might be confusing your legends!
Thanks, Professor Bikman; you are my most trusted metabolic researcher. 😘 🙏 👍
BEST information Ever. Thank you.
Best, ever? It's really not.
Everything has truly gone grey for me to the extent that the only show I can watch now is greys anatomy, I have watched every episode four times now, smh.
very funny post...its a shame that its been skimmed over :)
Metabolic rate drop on high carb is probably due to muscle loss. Keep protein consumption high and do weights to avoid this?
My daughter has PCOS and weight loss drugs has helped her lose weight
I really enjoyed this show!
This is a short cut from a longer interview. The whole thing is excellent
Hello Dr. Bikman. I believe semaglutides stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin. I was wondering how people lose fat if insulin is elevated by these compounds. Is there a workaround that the body uses? Thanks for your work. Have a good one.
I was very curious about this as well.
Basically they’re on a starvation diet.

Ask those who actually use it and see what they think.

Gastric bypass patient - had over 20 years ago now and need a revision. But instead of just a GLP-1 drug that Mounjaro would be better?
Mounjaro worked better for me microdose 1.5 to 3mg

As far as being on them for life, that really varies. I was previously on Metformin due to my PCOS and expected to be on that for life. I’m not taking it anymore as I no longer have any PCOS symptoms.
It’s taken me 6 months to reach my goal on Mounjaro and am now trying to figure out a maintenance regime. Right now this looks like it’s gonna be a low dose injection a couple of times a month.
FFS the man KNOWS HIS STUFF.
Those who will benefit from these drugs will need to balance it with the severe and often permanent side effects 🤦🏻♀️
What are you talking about?
Shut it fatty
The only ones who are benefiting from these drugs are the drug companies.
Most people with typ 2 diabetes can be cured with a ketogenic diet. And obese people can also lose weight with a ketogenic diet.
But eating a proper human diet doesn't generate profit for the drug industry.
This whole video seems a little bit like fear mongering.
It’s just another case of “yeah you need to lose weight, but we want you to do it OUR way (eat less, move more), which we know by the scientific studies fails 98% of the time.”
By the way, I reached my goal weight after a year on the medication.
Seems to be a lot of pharma - bots in the comments.
So wrong!!!!
my opinion, not medical advice from someone who is T2D and is subscribed Ozempic 2.0 for BG control: Do not take O for weight loss.
Good luck.
I very much admire Dr. Bikman. Also, I’ve been on a GLP-1 for 6 months and I can’t say how grateful I am for this option! Due to health issues, my weight ballooned up this last year to over 50lbs extra. I am pre-diabetic and was dangerously close to becoming full fledged diabetic, had a fatty liver and my autoimmunes out of control, I just felt like garbage. If I’m honest, I mostly also still feel like garbage on the GLP-1 but not as bad 😂 The fatigue for me has been overwhelming. I make sure my sleep is good, drink plenty of water and electrolytes, and try to eat more fiber rich and nutrient dense foods during this time especially.
