    Great news that X-Plane 12 is out now. I know you did some videos on the Lama with X-Plane 11. I saw today a new version of the Lama (V2. 0) that is compatible with X-Plane 12. I will be very interested in a commented flight with the new version and some comparison with the previous one.

    Regarding your comment that you don't know about the JRX update policy: JRX had announced to update the Bo 105 and Gazelle for free for X-Plane 12, see sticky posts in their forum. Very customer-friendly. Still in work as they did not have access to a pre-release version of X-Plane 12, if I understood them right.
    Personally, I can wait a bit longer until my most important helicopters & planes have been ported (the Bo-105 is my favourite). Expecting JRX to have the update ready after two days is of course unrealistic.

    So far I liked what I saw, very nice for a first Beta, but it is - as you could expect - still a bit rough around the edges. The new weather system and clouds are certainly the most interesting part, even with the issus that are still in it. Looking forward to where it will end up. It runs surprisingly well on my rig, although until now I only flew it purely stock without any add-ons.

    Great to see you in 12 and that your rig can actually keep up pretty well!
    (I myself run an older GPU, a 1070) it appears to me that the performance of 12 is plain better out of the box than 11, I would mostly credit this to laminar finally including MSAA as the standard AA option rather than the incredibly frame costly SMAA
    the framerates for me have also improved and become more consistent as the beta versions went by (last tried beta 12)
    My experience with the flight model has been similar, it just feels more natural than 11, I've been liking JRX' Bo105 in 12 so far even though he only published a compatibility hotfix for it rather than a full XP12 version which he only wants to release once v12.00 is final
    The scenery update for 12 is still to be implemented, though, post release of v12.00 as said by laminar...
    it wont be anything wild but it supposedly will improve the looks of the default scenery by introducing higher resolution ground textures and more variety in them across the globe
    not too smart marketing wise imho because it will release XP12 in a state that is much closer to 11 and doesnt reflect austins remarks about 12 being "all new"
    perhaps they should've kept 12 in beta until they had the scenery update ready but apparently they felt the need to publish by this december

    • @thenerdyhelisimmer4608
      @thenerdyhelisimmer4608  2 года назад

      Yes, it seemed clear from early on XP12 could not compete visually with MSFS even with the new features (seasons, 3D Vegetation etc.). Still they have a very good helicopter implementation but the gap closes. MSFS now has heli support and while their B407 was rather dissapointing the Cabri G2 is done quite well. Not yet XP standard but definetly good enough to explore and enjoy the MS visuals. XP12 is hard on my system. Flying in remote areas is fine but lately tried out the updated Telluride payware scenery...no luck (15-16 fps at best). Haven't tried more congested areas with the default scenery yet.
      Yes looking forward to the Bo! Hopefully Rotorsim will find a way to make their plug-in work in 12. And Fred said he'd bring us the S300 and B407...we'll see 😉

      one can only hope for further optimization, seeing as scenery is a major performance hog in xplane I am also setting high hopes on the scenery overhaul to improve frames.
      visually MSFS certainly is ahead and XP will not beat it anytime soon that is for sure, the default ortho scenery and worldwide OSM based vector data is really nice for VFR navigation, though one can achieve the same in XP by downloading orthoscenery and using simhavens fantastic xworld plugins that introduces the very same OSM data MSFS uses into xplane, downside being of course you will have to store these on your harddrive, whilst the xworld packs only take about 10gb on your drive per continent, ortho can grow quite out of hand size wise and you will have to limit yourself to certain areas you fly in.
      Personally I havent had a chance to try MSFS' new helicopters yet but I've been using the simulator every now and then for flying fixed wing, primarily PMDGs fantastic DC6 as I am a vintage aircraft enthusiast. But despite the eyecandy and PMDGs great DC6 I can't stick with the sim too long, its full of these small minor bugs, inconsistencies and annoyances that when all combined always driven me back to XP so far that, in spite of its own gremlins, gives me a more consistent experience.
      The B407 returning to XP12 had me excited for sure, as dreamfoil had pretty much stopped development of it in 11 for health reasons iirc, but the 407 being one of my favorite helicopters in XP and also my go to heli IFR platform in combination with the RXP GNS750 and SAS/AP system its nice to know all of its previously lost features will be restored and it will make the jump to the new platform :D

    Will I buy it? Not entirely convinced yet. I have been using X-Plane for a long time after switching from FSX for a better flight model - I held off getting MSFS because many said it was more gameish rather than sim, and I read earlier this year that those that had X-Plane 11 would be able to upgrade for free - that turned out to not be true, so I’m not yet convinced that 12 is far enough ahead of 11 to warrant me forking out (Australian dollars) $80 for something not all that new. Have been doing most of my simming lately in the Yak-52 on DCS and might stay there until I see what changes. Thank you for this video I am not a chopper pilot (have only done one brief TIF in a R22, I prefer fixed wing flying the Tecnam P2002, but have been looking for reviews of XP12 since I found the demo version is somewhat limited.

I switched for the Heli Flight Dynamics which were awful in FSX. Fixed wings were quite nice already. I remember flying the Ifly 737 and the PMDG 747 a lot. Anyway as I expected, visually XP12 has not a lot to offer so if MSFS can come up with decent Helicopter flight dynamics I might go there...(although I somewhat doubt they will). With their two bladed rotor-system the Robinson helicopters are prone to mast bumping. Manufacturer says You should avoid cyclic pushover maneuvers that cause low-g situations and when You get into one to apply gently aft cyclic. Also to slow down the aircraft in turbulence. Especially with the R22 You can run out of engine power fast. It's an ongoing debate wether or not the R22 is an unsafe aircraft. Some say it is, some say it's not. It has a comparably high accident rate but then again it is the number one training aircraft so it is more likely to have an accident in the first place. Anyway in a simulator we can't blame the aircraft now can we 😅

      Yep, one of the nice things about XP is a very active community sharing a lot of freeware via their online forum. Every now and then You'll find some amazing stuff with payware quality. You can check out my video series "freeware gems" for two examples. Never the less most high quality aircraft and scenery in Xplane are payware too. Helicopters ranging from 25 to 50 $. Airliners sometimes going up as far as 70/80 $. Good thing about MSFS is you already have great custom scenery worldwide whereas XPs generic scenery looks like...

    • @murdoch9106
      @murdoch9106 2 года назад

      Depends heavily on what you look at, anything with high degree of systems depth with cost 40 - 100$ depending on what you look at, in any sim, X plane and MSFS seem to have similar prices, the amount of work for both sims is likely pretty similar too.
      Dont go to X plane and expect it to be cheaper, infact, since MSFS has a much bigger market share it will be easier for those devs to keep prices down. We already see big devs like PMDG pushing their prices down just because they sell so much more now, that said, its still not cheap to get their Boeing 737 800 for example, 80$ or so, and the A320 Fenix is 93$.. because of all the custom systems code in them.
      I have high fidelity GA aircrafts ranging from 11$ - 40 or 60$ on MSFS... so many factors that play a part there.

    I have been an instructor pilot of light and ultralight aircraft for over 35 years, and I honestly do not believe that the graphics of the FS 2020 scenarios are adequate for the real training of light and ultralight aircraft pilots. Microsoft thought it (rightly) for those who want to play and not for the training of pilots. for this reason it is much better to take the realism of the X-Plane flight model and build on it autonomously dedicated scenarios. As has been done successfully with the Italian project of the "VFR ESTREMO". In this case, a synthesis of the advantages of the two simulators was obtained. maximum realism of the flight model and maximum realism of photorealistic scenarios.
