    The Colt Model 1902 was part of the transition from older black powder revolvers to more modern, smokeless powder firearms. It was chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge, which later became more widely associated with the M1911 pistol. However, the Model 1902 itself was less common and saw limited use. great shot 💥

      The Colt 1902 was chambered in .38 Special. The .45 ACP cartridge wasn’t developed until 1905, and even then only for prototype semi-auto pistols for US Army evaluation. If you don’t know, don’t make up 🐄💩

    I should learn to hold off commenting until I've seen the whole video. The last part shows the special clip at the back of the cylinder to retain the 45 ACP flangeless rounds. Great video, by the way.

      It is a Webley Revolver in .455 Cal., and not a Colt .
      The Colt model 1902 has a fixed-cylinder and chambered in .38 ACP.

      The ACP and moon clips to facilitate their use in revolvers, did not exist until long after 1903. The 45 acp was developed just prior to 1911, and it was a new round, around which the 1911 was designed. The first revolver to use 45 acp, was designed around 1917, and adopted in that year, for WWI. Theyre being dishonest by how this is labelled.

    That gun is a British Webley commercial revolver, notice the vented rib on top of the barrel. Its from the early 20th century, not from the American civil war. Civil war revolvers were all cap and ball black powder revolvers and were not capable of firing cartridges.

      Before I begin opening the screws, I've gathered the necessary tools: an all-purpose lubricant to ease any moving parts, a rust converter to treat corrosion, and an oxide solvent to tackle stubborn rust on the screws.

    Thats not a U.S. military firearm. 45 ACP didnt even exist until just prior to 1911; it was designed as a new cartridge with greater stopping power than the 38 cartridges which proved ineffective in the Philippines. There was no 45 ACP pistol created until 1917, and that was the M1917, and this is not an M1917, and the M1917 used an entirely new and novel moon clip for its cartridges, as the ACO, is as its name stated, an Automatic Colt, Pistol cartridge, and as such, is unrimmed, and cannot be used within a revolver without the use of a moon clip. This pistol is also neither a Colt, nor a Smith and Wesson, and those are the only manufacturers to produce side arms for the U.S. military, outside of Government arsenals, since the Civil War, until Beretta was contracted with in 1985.

      .45 ACP actually existed in 1905, this was when the first prototypes were being tested. The development of the 1911 was a long slow process. But either way you are correct, there were no .45 ACP revolvers until 1917.

    Since you've dealt with a lot of firearms does any amount of heavy rust cause any metal fatigue and we can or less of the structural aspect of the firearm and you always check the board to see that The rifleman has not been compromised

    • @WSOldandRestoration
      @WSOldandRestoration  3 месяца назад +1

      Heavy rust can indeed affect the structural integrity of a firearm. Rust is a form of corrosion that can penetrate the metal, potentially leading to pitting and weakening of the material. If the rust is extensive, it can compromise the firearm's function and safety, making it more prone to failure during use.
      It's always crucial to inspect the bore and other components of a firearm for signs of rust or corrosion. If any structural aspects appear compromised-like significant pitting in critical areas such as the barrel or receiver-it's advisable to refrain from using the firearm until it's properly evaluated and restored by a qualified gunsmith. Regular maintenance and proper storage can help prevent rust and prolong the life of firearms.
