I just got accepted into a psychology undergrad program with a $75,000 scholarship! Im extremely excited and I’m so happy to be going into the mental health field it’s something I’m truly passionate about.
@@chahatkataria2825 it was just a merit based one from the school. I actually declined it and took one for 178,000$ at a different school. That too, was just the schools offer based on my gpa. I had a 4.33 weighted gpa in my senior year of highschool.
Fun fact! Where I'm from it takes 10 years to become a clinical psychologist: 3y Bachelor's, 2y Master's and then 5 years of full time work under supervision in hospitals. It's always interesting to hear how different the criteria and years are around the world. Anyway, thank you for sharing your ideas Ro, very well put together video!
Hi Roanna, I am an undergrad psychology student here in the United States, but thank you for giving me the perspective of others who pursue in the field in Australia! Very helpful! Keep up the videos!
Yes! I'd love a video on career paths for people who decide to get a masters or doctorate in psychology!! I'm wondering what else there is other than becoming a clinical psychologist -- including working in community/nonprofit settings and corporate settings! Feel free to tell me that this has already been done haha and I'll go looking for that video then.

Hey, thank you for this video. It was beautifully explained, and I especially loved and related to the change segment; often overlooked when I hear people discuss what to expect from studying Psychology, which can be distressing and challenging, though ultimately rewarding.
i am currently in highschool and still taking my time to discover what i want to be in the future, but psychology is really something for me. i have always loved anything related to it and most of all, i'd love to see myself years from now helping other people in need. but just one question, is it okay to apply for masters in australia when i did not do my psych undergrad there??
The presenter, you Ro, were so wonderfully and tastefully (I may add) interactive and informative. Thank you for the Myth Busting session. Thumbs up and sold on your channel.🥰

Your videos are helping me a lot with what to expect. I'm still anxious about doing it but it seems like an extremely meaningful field of study. The part about needing more male psychologists makes it even more so! Thank you :)
Hi Joel! There are so many career pathways within the field of psychology and if you're passionate I'm totally behind it! Having lived experience can also be such a superpower as a clinician. All the best on your journey 😊
i can´t thank you enough. i am considering to apply for psychology and all of the videos i have seen so far were all so negative. thank you for the positivity.

So so glad I found this channel!! Can I ask how you found studying your masters? I am currently looking between schools (UNSW or MCQ probably) and am worried about juggling everything during those two years. Were you able to maintain a work schedule during that time, or was employment completely off the books?
Hey Sarah! :) I'm so glad you're here! I enjoyed it, though I did get a bit burnt out in 2nd year- I didn't work very much aside from some casual work that didn't go over 1/2 day/ week. Some friends did an entire day of research/ admin and they seemed to manage fine. In your first year I'd say 1 day/ week is quite manageable!
@@thepsychdiaries Thankyou so much for your reply! Do you mind describing what a standard week in masters is like? Is it 5 days a week, 8-5? Did anyone in your cohort work more hours than casually? Hey aparnaa! Great questions and it would take a little more time to fully explain the pathways (I’ll do a video on them soon!) but briefly. 1) If MA = masters then yes! In Australia if you finish a masters of clinical psychology you will become a psychologist (not sure if it transfers from overseas though), 2) job prospects seem pretty good- in Sydney I’ve seen lots of jobs for registered psychologists! 3) in Australia yes you need 4 years as it’s 3 years of psychology study + honours research year. However you’d have to ask each individual University what credits will transfer across internationally. I’d recommend emailing/ calling the psychology facility and asking them directly. Good luck! I’d also recommend you tell them your specific situation because these are specific to NSW in Australia and it might be different in your country! :)
Hiii I'm undergraduate psychology student sri lanka. Thank you so much giving your experience. It is very excited. I really like your videos. Good luck 😍😍❤️❤️

Hi roanna, My parents keep telling me to be a doctor. I studied cambridge curriculum and took bio chem phy for ALs. I dont want to be a doctor i really want to be a psychologist just like you. I have been watching all your videos and it makes me so interested. My parents keep scaring me that i wudnt get a job if i did psychology and i would earn less tell me it isnt like that ryt? I'm only interest in avation psychology But to be honest it's not my dream job and I don't want to be a aviation psychologist.. I'm just only interest in this - something like a hobby. I have on my way to my really dream job, but people says I'm good in psychology... And this creates a chaos in my head..
Hi Roanna, Thanks so much for your videos - they've been a great introduction to psychology in Australia. I'm considering going back to uni to study psychology. Do you have any advice regarding studying statistics for the less mathematically inclined? I figured it'd be better to get a handle on it now, rather than later.
Definitely a common q and tbh heaps of your cohort will probs be in the same boat, very few people feel stats comes easy (and I totally relate). I'd recommend a stats tutor! In fact at my uni it was such a common problem we had a list of stats tutors because so many people needed a helping hand!
I am a new subscriber from Egypt 🇪🇬 I'm so interested in psychology and wanna know more about it. Also maybe in the future I hope it becomes my professional major😊 But could you pls add Eng sub, I'm not fluent at language and sometimes I can't understand 😅 *Sorry for mistakes Love your content ♥️✨
i’m not sure if you still need it, but there should be a little box in the top right corner of the video, it’s is a box with “cc” inside of it. and when you press it, it should give you subtitles/captions !
Do you know people who study psychology and didn’t get a job? I love psychology but I have the fear of the big amount of competition heard so many bad stories and my nightmare is to study all those years and go back to school
Hmm not personally- all my friends in masters all got jobs quite quickly however with only a bachelor of psychology it is a bit tricker (mostly research or corporate roles)
@@thepsychdiaries Hi Ro! I am a year 12 student thinking of doing a bachelor of psychology (hon) in MQ, and I just have 2 questions going off from your response here, if you could please help me 🥺 1. Is it hard to find a job with an honours degree in psychology? 2. Does the Uni (i.e. Macquarie Uni) you go to affect your job prospects? …. Thanks ;)
Tysm for the video, I'm dreaming of working in clinical psych!! In your experience, is entry into honours competitive and would I need really good grades for it? I'm kinda concerned over my workload because I'm also thinking of doing a double degree
Is there a huge difference doing a Bachelor of Arts instead of a bachelor of science and would I be able to go into the clinical area if I do a Bachelor of Arts degree?
Hey Aisha- firstly I would highly recommend getting in contact with the admissions centre at the school you'd like to enter! However if my memory serves me right getting into psychology honours gives you the path to clinical masters- I do think a few people in my honours cohort did a B. Arts (major in psychology). Good luck :)
Hello ! I don’t know if you’ll see this but I was wondering if I’d be able to specialize both on clinical psychology and art therapy? I just really love art and I’d love to implement in on my career but I’m also really interested in clinical one so :’) Have a nice day !! Love your videos
Ooh so cool, I personally dont know the study paths but pretty sure you can- psychologists can choose any area to develop or train in once they've graduated so if you wanted to become a clin psych and then do additional art therapy training that sounds great!
I loved UNSW's undergrad life for the clubs etc. As a postgrad student at USYD I was actually on a satellite campus with the psychology clinic so I really didnt get a chance to experience any student life!
Hey hii, I was looking for applying for batchelors of science in psychology in university of Sydney but I had some questions 1) how much exactly will I get paid as a male psychologist? 2) is it wierd to do psychology as a male ? 3) does this course have maths ? 4) studying this course from USYD will make my salary more ?
Yeah Shubham it has a lot of statistics and one more thing that I have to say is that your earnings as a psychologist is not gonna be too high or too low[Experience and a Phd may get you some] if its money you are targeting its not your course afterall its a 8 year long course you've to have passion. I'm a guy likes Psychology It really doesn't matter if you are a male you have a passion follow it.
Hi! 1) As far as I know know absoltely no difference due to gender! 2) definitely not, I super recommend it! We definitely need more male representation. 3) Yes it will have statistics, 4) It won't gurantee it however you will probably have an easier time finding jobs :) good luck!
Actually my 10th exam are cancelled and the 2 streme open for me are science and humanities/art . So I was like should I take it , is it worth it. My dream is to help people .
Hello, I recently crossed your video. I'm a Sophomore in high school and I've already figured out that I want to be a psychologist. Is there any classes you recommend in high-school to start child psychology.
i am waiting for my a-levels results right now but I recently found out that I want to study psychology and become a forensic psychologist but the thing is that I have not studied maths nor science in a-levels. I do not have a pass either in these two subjects, however I have studied English, French literature and sociology and general studies in my a-levels and I have found out that some universities do not have strict requirements for psychology. What do you recommend me or advise me? I really want to study psychology.
Ooh tricky q- I would recommend asking the uni you want to enter about their entry requirements, unfortunately its a bit confusing with different regulations both around the world/ in different states
Heyyy ! Thanks for informative videos .. I am an Indian and currently doing my bachelors here in psychology which is a 3 year course here .. I am thinking about going to Australia for masters in psychology after my bachelors (umdergrad) here .. Can you please guide regards the same ? Suggestions plz
Hey Saumya! So sorry I'm not quite sure about international pathways, however we had maybe 25% of our masters cohort from other countries so its definitelt possible :) (I went to USYD)
im a second year undergrad student and lately ive felt immense anxiety on the future particularly that im not good enough, or i wont be able to make it into honours and masters,. this started escalating because of a research proposal assignment that i was struggling with and i feel scared that i will never be able to make it and i will fail honours because i felt difficulty just doing a proposal. what do you think i should do to make study habits better and increase my mental health?
Only thing you can do to increase your mental health is to increase your spiritual health. No degrees for this course. It’s intuitive. Enlightening. Real.
Hi i'm currently 16 next year i'm gonna be in 11th standard.. i'm from india and people say there's not too many career options for psychology students here but i really want to study it... Could uu make psychology career options in different countries? Probably a hard thing but would be appreciated ❤
I am currently a high school student, who have been through a lot with mental health issues, thus I want to study psychology and help those in need in the future. However, I am quite confused about the differences bewteen a counsellor and a registered psychologist.....
They have diferent study pathways! Generally psychologists need to study a little bit longer and at a university, counsellors have a bit more flexibility and I think they can be trained even after a one year course :)
Hi, I’m currently a yr12 student and i really interested in psychology. But I’m worried that i cant get in, because when i research it needs like at least 98.5 ATAR. Ist really hard?
Yes gosh the ATAR for some unis is really high! However, there are unis all around aus where you can study psych or go into it through psych science or b. science majoring in psych too!
hi there Roanna, i am on a scholarship of oral health in newzealand however i am not sure if oral health is for me so i want to change it into a psychology major .... i know we are strangers but i really need your opinion on this. i love biology and i really want to help people with their negative emotions but is it worth it to take the 8 year pathway to psychology as an overseas student?
Hi! It sounds like you're going through quite a big process of considering which path you should take. I wish I could give you a concrete answer however all I can offer is to ask yourself what is important to you, what are your values and if you take steps towards that you can't go wrong. Best of luck!
I found your video so helpful but i have a question 1.If I take a psychology degree i am not going to work as a psychiatrist 2. In my country it takes 4 year and my dream is to become counseling psychologist or a counsler is any difference b/n counseling psychologist and counsler and And only 4 year psychology degree is enough to be a counselor. Pls reply
1. psychiatrist is a type of doctor so you would do a medical degree first, not a psychology degree 2. in australia a counsellor has separate training, usually its not quite as rigorous as becoming a psycholgist (but its a separate course and not a 4 year uni psychology degree!)
Hey I’m currently in year 11 right now in Sydney and I was just wondering if doing advanced maths is really crucial as it’s supposed to be assumed knowledge for psychology honours although I totally flunked my term 1 test for maths and I’m just really concerned because I’m really determined to go into psychology to become a psychologist preferably at usyd or unsw :(( I was also wondering if other subjects than advanced maths are good to take in year 11 and 12 high school to help in going into psychology and what subjects you did in high school?
I actually think as long as you have a science background and are knowledgeable in the scientific method that's enough- all the content you will be taught during lectures. Advanced maths isn't important but there are stats!
@@thepsychdiaries Ahhh I see, I was just a bit concerned because I only take biology because I couldn’t pick up chemistry in time so I’m a bit concerned on whether I have what it takes to get in :(
Can you tell me more about psychiatrist, I know you're not psychiatrist but if you know something about psychiatrist can you share it in your vlog, thank you💗

But to be honest it's not my dream job and I don't want to be a aviation psychologist.. I'm just only interest in this - something like a hobby. I have on my way to my really dream job, but people says I'm good in psychology... And this creates a chaos in my head..
I love your videos💜 and I want to be psychologist like uu💜thank you for the informations..
Hi Mina! Thank you so much 🥰🥰 you can do it!!
@@thepsychdiariesI will do my best 💜thank you
Keep letting me know if you have any questions along the way! :)
Hi Roanna,
Thanks so much for your videos - they've been a great introduction to psychology in Australia.
In fact at my uni it was such a common problem we had a list of stats tutors because so many people needed a helping hand!
loved your video
I am a new subscriber from Egypt 🇪🇬
I'm so interested in psychology and wanna know more about it.
Also maybe in the future I hope it becomes my professional major😊
But could you pls add Eng sub, I'm not fluent at language and sometimes I can't understand 😅
*Sorry for mistakes
Love your content ♥️✨
i’m not sure if you still need it, but there should be a little box in the top right corner of the video, it’s is a box with “cc” inside of it. and when you press it, it should give you subtitles/captions !
Yes thank you!! ^^
Hey psych diaries - Love your content!
Question - Is it possible to become a clinical psych from the graduate diploma pathway? Thanks :)
I am a year 12 student thinking of doing a bachelor of psychology (hon) in MQ, and I just have 2 questions going off from your response here, if you could please help me 🥺
1. Is it hard to find a job with an honours degree in psychology?
2. Does the Uni (i.e. Macquarie Uni) you go to affect your job prospects? ….
Thanks ;)
what are the job opportunities after doing Bachelor's of psychology and behaviour in UWA Perth?? ... nice video btw❤
@@thepsychdiaries thanks so much I appreciate it💕💕
I did some light training in counselling in my undergrad so far. Male student.
Hello ! I don’t know if you’ll see this but I was wondering if I’d be able to specialize both on clinical psychology and art therapy? I just really love art and I’d love to implement in on my career but I’m also really interested in clinical one so :’) Have a nice day !! Love your videos
Ooh so cool, I personally dont know the study paths but pretty sure you can- psychologists can choose any area to develop or train in once they've graduated so if you wanted to become a clin psych and then do additional art therapy training that sounds great!
awesome vid
Helpful video! Just curious, did you prefer UNSW or USYD better as a student? :)
I loved UNSW's undergrad life for the clubs etc. As a postgrad student at USYD I was actually on a satellite campus with the psychology clinic so I really didnt get a chance to experience any student life!
Hi my name is Taiwo I'm a mental health professional(enthusiast) i'd love to learn about psychology.
Hey hii, I was looking for applying for batchelors of science in psychology in university of Sydney but I had some questions
1) how much exactly will I get paid as a male psychologist?
Thank you❤
Hello! Can you tell me how to be an ecopsychologist-nature therapist?
Thank you so much.
Hello, I recently crossed your video. I'm a Sophomore in high school and I've already figured out that I want to be a psychologist. Is there any classes you recommend in high-school to start child psychology.
FLVS psychology if your school allows
i am waiting for my a-levels results right now but I recently found out that I want to study psychology and become a forensic psychologist but the thing is that I have not studied maths nor science in a-levels.
@@thepsychdiaries ohh tysm for replying. I will do that when the results come next month and once again thanks a lot for responding to me.
Heyyy ! Thanks for informative videos ..
I am an Indian and currently doing my bachelors here in psychology which is a 3 year course here ..
I am thinking about going to Australia for masters in psychology after my bachelors (umdergrad) here .. Can you please guide regards the same ? Suggestions plz
Hey Saumya! So sorry I'm not quite sure about international pathways, however we had maybe 25% of our masters cohort from other countries so its definitelt possible :) (I went to USYD)
heloo , am doing same bsc psychology from india and i wish to go abroad too if u get any information please share
im a second year undergrad student and lately ive felt immense anxiety on the future particularly that im not good enough, or i wont be able to make it into honours and masters,. this started escalating because of a research proposal assignment that i was struggling with and i feel scared that i will never be able to make it and i will fail honours because i felt difficulty just doing a proposal. what do you think i should do to make study habits better and increase my mental health?
Im in last year in highschool and ı really wanna be psycholoist bu ım afread of not be able to find job so ı problably gonna choose another path
I'm a BS Psychology student. Undergraduate.
It's Freud approved 😄👍🏻
hahaha 😂
hi there Roanna, i am on a scholarship of oral health in newzealand however i am not sure if oral health is for me so i want to change it into a psychology major .... i know we are strangers but i really need your opinion on this. i love biology and i really want to help people with their negative emotions but is it worth it to take the 8 year pathway to psychology as an overseas student?
Hi! It sounds like you're going through quite a big process of considering which path you should take. I wish I could give you a concrete answer however all I can offer is to ask yourself what is important to you, what are your values and if you take steps towards that you can't go wrong. Best of luck!
Hey I entering highschool soon and I wanna study psychology. Which course should I take? Science or humanities/arts
I am the 3,500th like of this video
Is it important to take science ? Can't we take arts to become clinical psychologist?
You can do undergad arts but you must do honours in psychology before you can apply for a clinical masters program!
I found your video so helpful but i have a question
1.If I take a psychology degree i am not going to work as a psychiatrist
2. In my country it takes 4 year and my dream is to become counseling psychologist or a counsler is any difference b/n counseling psychologist and counsler and
And only 4 year psychology degree is enough to be a counselor.
Pls reply
1. psychiatrist is a type of doctor so you would do a medical degree first, not a psychology degree
2. in australia a counsellor has separate training, usually its not quite as rigorous as becoming a psycholgist (but its a separate course and not a 4 year uni psychology degree!)
@@thepsychdiaries thanks you so helpful
so how long is it to study psychology really?all the years combined
Psychology humbles you…
what
Hey i have completed undergraduation in business administration. Can i study masters in clinical psychology after BBA?
@@thepsychdiaries Ahhh I see, I was just a bit concerned because I only take biology because I couldn’t pick up chemistry in time so I’m a bit concerned on whether I have what it takes to get in :(
I want to be a therapist not a psychologist idk where I should apply
this might sound a bit personal but is the salary good?
Can you tell me more about psychiatrist,
I know you're not psychiatrist but if you know something about psychiatrist can you share it in your vlog, thank you💗
Can we apply for PR in Australia with a Bachelors of Psycology degree? Please respond ..
Can I start working after I have completed my masters ?
