    I just replaced Aquila Nylguts on my Ohana solid Koa concert with Worth Browns, and the difference is staggering! Every youtube video showed the Browns coming across so much richer with more resonance and sustain. In person, it was even more amazing than the video! You can feel and hear the note ringing and resonating like nothing else! Yes, the Worth’s are fiddly to install when you cut them in half, but I still tied off and had about 3-4 windings left at the top pegs.
    IMO Nylguts make a laminated uke sound good, but make a solid wood uke sound cheap. Aquilas have this plasticky plinky sound when first struck. The Worth Browns are so rich, it’s all I want on all my solid ukes and might try them on some of my better laminates. Something about whatever they added to make the strings brown make them so much richer in sound than the clears. They are also the slickest strings I have ever felt and sliding chords are now effortless!
    That said, I do like D’Addario Flourocarbons becuase they are a light gage and easier for my wife to play, because she is just starting out.

    I think I liked the sound of the Worth best, followed closely by the Martins, and the originals the least. But after listening about the length issue I would go with the Martin. Great video. Very informative.

    • @TheUkuleleFool
      @TheUkuleleFool  5 лет назад

      I was so disappointed with the issues of length. The strings cost $12 plus shipping and that makes a single set pretty pricey, particularly for how fast I go through strings. I agree, certain ukuleles sound better with a string that helps pick up the resonance of the wood and the construction. Have you encountered problems with the length when you buy Worth strings? • @operatorrt

      Hi ;) Yes - they come in 2 lengths - either 46" or 63" - and you can cut them in half and make 2 sets, which is convenient. The shorter set I use for sopranos and smaller concerts, the long set for tenor or big sized concerts.

    Great string comparison video. I am sure that different ukuleles perform better or worst pending the choice of strings used.
    I have a multitude of different ukuleles and perform everything from classical pieces to rock n roll songs. I am very happy when I restring them with the only strings that I now use (having tried all the ones out there) and they are the Aquila Supernygut with the low G.

    • @TheUkuleleFool
      @TheUkuleleFool  5 лет назад

      I won some of those when I was in Utah and I gave them a whirl, with the high G. They are in a black package, right? They were okay, but on my Martin, the premium strings sound best - to me. I am certainly finding out that what I think sounds good, doesn't always agree with what others think sounds good. You sure do have a broad repertoire Henry!!! Love what you are doing.

    I also think the Worth sounded clean and bright in the high ranges and the Martin's more mellow in the lower range so matter of preference. Very hard to pick up a significant difference for strumming and chucking but I am pretty deaf so I am using hearing aids.
    Personally I prefer flurocarbon strings over nylon and nylgut mainly for feel but I also like the bright sound. I use Living Waters soprano strings

    Original strings, look and sound like Aquila super nylagut. The most full range sound of the three and possibly the best all-around String. The Martin premiums are made by Aquila and are a variation of the nylgut formula in a lighter gauge. The worth sounded good.

  • @alexbrown6624

    How taught the strings are when you tune will affect the playability but they all sounded good to me if you play lots l think constantly changing will be a pain but if you are instructed to cut a string in half there should be ample amount to restring the instrument though tweezers and messing about for ages ! Wish you were here 🎉 Happy Strumming 🪕

    Worth every time. I don't have any nails so I really do play with my fingers. The brown Worthing are my favourite but I have a couple of Ukes 5hat even they are too tight feeling and I find fremont blacking strings to be a suitable alternative. If all else fails I email Ken Middleton ( living water strings ) who you may know as a Ukulele player also and he will supply a custom set for almost any preference. I use his custom strings on a Baritone Uke tuned linear GCEA and they give a really good Bari sound but you don't get in a muddle when playing in a group situation. The Worths, Fremonts and Living Water strings are not Nylon oof course and that's the main reason they are by and large lower tension. Very efficacious for us old arthritic Polar bears I find. It means I can play Uke now I no longer can comfortably play a steel strung instrument. Interesting Video incidentally. 👍

      I put Martin on my vintage mahogany soprano, they seemed perfectly suited to what I wanted from that instrument. I've been exploring other FC options for my concert and tenor instruments.
