Star Citizen is an in-development multiplayer space trading and combat simulation game. The game is being developed and published by Cloud Imperium Games for Microsoft Windows. Star Citizen is being led by director Chris Roberts.

Very old (64) and started gaming with Pong, so I can't wait as long as most folks for Squadron 42 and Star Citizen. I got up at 3:00 AM and enjoyed myself very much. Yes, I felt a little let down by the SQ42 crashes, but you know, there aren't that many games that give you an engaging single-player campaign followed by a mature MMO for the long haul. Usually only one of the two exist, or are really lacking. What I saw in the SQ 42 demo looked like great fun. I can wait a bit more. But don't drive yourself crazy by spending too much on SC. Get a good ship and buy the next in-game. Play other games when SC is on your last nerve. Hug someone you love!
Well said, and I agree.
You. Will be 70 before it comes out.
Wise words for backers here - not playing has been my go to for 2024 due to the state of the game, and I’m certainly not going to throw them any more funds after today.
And the funny thing is that the crashes weren't isolated to specific sections. It just happened randomly (well likely not completely random of course) but he was able to go on and progress pass those sections without issue.
Compared to a lot of recent games that come out with progress halting crashes, but occur every time at the same section, requiring you to wait on a fix to get passed? It's doing better in this state than many do at launch lol. Not to say that can't also happen here though.
But in all honesty I was expecting it to be crashing or having performance hitches a lot more than it actually did so I'm genuinely hyped.
@@Libertas_P77 what do you mean after today? You should have stopped giving $ years ago lol
As long as Roberts is in charge of the game development it will never be finished.
He will need to find a new job is he did finish the game. He wants to develop star engine genesis to secure his retirement
SC is a never ending tech demo whit parts that are always 2 years away.
How long has unreal engine taken to get to the point it is now
You are not wrong. MMOs are usually like that, new stuff coming all the time so people have a reason to stick around. Of course we're not quite at the game state yet...
@@DAVIDM-jz3fw15 years or so?
@@Qwarzz**new game play gets dropped constantly to keep engagement
But SC is different, it doesn't need content or gameplay, that's not what the main audience (the ones that buy everything) play it for, the empty sterile universe with regular new ships is mostly what they want
@@DAVIDM-jz3fw UE has been a real, shipping product for 26 years.
In 2012 everything was “2 years away”…
Just kiss a little more ass 😂
My wallet will be staying closed, i have no more money for SC
I closed my wallet in 2014 so as to not reward them for the bait and switch on the original SQ42 beta date. Since then that decision has felt more and more like the right one with every single missed beta date (ATC2016, ATC2017, 2018, 2020, Q3 2020, Q4 2020) and now we get to see if they actually mean it 'this time' for 2026. Meanwhile they've reduced scope on most of the features I cared about as VR is downgraded from a ground up feature to something that will maybe be worked on some day according to developers, while the drop-in drop-out co-op campaign has been descoped, and while they sold the modding manual for dedicated servers up until last year they don't seem to want to deliver on that anymore. So yeah, ever shrinking feature scope for the features I cared about, and ever sliding timelines. Someone else has to pay the 100 million USD per year this slow boat to 'somewhere' burns.
i have a little bit of money for them
@AlphariousOmegon-d5d I kinda wish I could get my money back. Dumped $700 into the game between 2017 and 2021. Just from the videos I've watched just to keep up on development since I haven't played since 3.15 the game is getting further away from solo players even though they have said that you can play it solo.
Was sitting next to the lead designer on that opening scene and was telling us you would be impressed. He was very upset with the crashes too as that had been run countless times. Shit happens. It was very good still, and the crashes validated we were watching a live actual gameplay.
Of note the 2026 game release was welcome but strange, but then looking at the accelerating rapid iteration of Star Citizen it feels that Star Citizen 1.0 will probably meant to coincide with sqd42 release.
Loool
Everyone's crying about 2026. Let me remind you guys that this is almost the end of October 2024. 2026 is NOT 2 years away. Also, I also believe that CIG is coordinating the release of SQ42 with SC 1.0.
@@alandab Technically, if they release it at the end of December 2026, it will be two years away. :P But I agree with everything you said. It makes total sense.
i was told by SC fans (yes i'm an original backer) that i was a hater when i predicted in 2019 that the claims of s42 being released in 2020 was delusional, and at best it might happen in 2022. at the same time i didn't know covid will happen so i don't really hold this delay against them. but at this point in time, seeing the "progress" made since 2019 (5years mind you) the chance that s42 releases in 2026 seems basically unlikely/impossible to me. I think 2028 is about right. And I don't think we'll ever get a v1 for SC. i think whatever state it is in when s42 releases will basically be the final state for SC. they'll declare it fully released, and put it into maintenance mode. Roberts always wanted to get back into Hollywood, and baring that he seems to be milking this for a career till retirement. I've lost all hope for this project.
reminder, server meshing was supposed to happen in 2018...
The Vanduul ships were slow like blimps (on max difficulty?). WTF?
Hopefully it's not always 2 years because 2 years is just enough time for people to get used to it not being released yet and they can extend the time at the end of the 2 years, without having players flip out. It is a recipe for having unlimited amount of time. It is equivalent to just saying, "it'll be out, when it comes out".
I can't remember a year, but there was one when Chris literally said" When it's done and there was a presentation with space station , then they switched to old rethorics again, but yeah there are too many people remembering these multiple 2 years away by now
When they announced that SQ42 was content complete I expected it to be released only after an other 2 years of polishing, so I wasn’t really surprised by the 2026 release.
For the rest it actually felt really cool seeing all the stuff they want to add, especially as a solo player who only occasionally does group stuff. Also the new level of detail and what their plans are for that got me really excited, for gameplay purposes it’s probably completely useless but I also just love flying around planets and exploring stuff.
For a game that was supposed to release in 2016... that's quite a stretch
@FuriousImp how many games have come out in the last few years that are a complete buggy mess and they are trying there best to avoid that you want games that are like that look at no man sky or cyberpunk they are just now pretty good games and have been released for years
@@DAVIDM-jz3fwwitcher, skyrim, no mans sky, starfield, star wars(doesn't matter which one after academy), gta5, rdr2 doesn't matter any gme that has a bit of scope was buggy as crap on release not just cp77 people tend to forget
People saying it was going to be released in 2024 are the problem, all those puffy white knights that just drive the hype train and lie to their necks are the problem. 2 or 3 years polish time seems reasonable with an extra year for "blockers", that if they don't decide to redo everything again lol😂
Honestly, for a game with that scope i was expecting 3 to 5 years of polish.... hope what time they have is enough.
I started my Star citizen support in 2016 and it was around 2019 I took a step back from playing or staying "up to date" outside the big feature announcements and citizencon. I did this because i understood it's going to take awhile still and thats fine. SQ42 in 2026 and 1.0 not until 2030? Don't care, I'm sure I'll be awesome when it comes out.
Aye, after 10 yrs you grow up and realise 🤷 you just don't really care anymore. if it launches, fine I will play it. till then, I shrug, looks great, but will see.
I think SQ42 and SC 1.0 will release together. Maybe we only get 3 to 5 star systems, but these should be jam packed with things to do. Maybe in 2030 we finally get the completed universe.
You're already awesome M8
With what SpaceX just pulled off...yeeting a 30 story building into orbit and then land the bottom 20 stories back in the launch cradle...on the first go...we will have actual space travel before CIG gets a finished product out.
I really do hold my head in despair at people (usually Americans) that lap up Musk's tax payer funded bullshit as an innovation despite the fact what he did was accomplished first over 30 years ago and he still didn't manage it without various failures and an engine bay fire. By the time he actually has a working usable safe launch vehicle it will have cost US tax payers so much money that it would have been cheaper just to increase NASA's budget and have them do it themselves, if that point has not already been crossed.
He is the planets greatest con artist and grifter, who has only ever failed upwards in life. He is America's greatest welfare queen ENTIRELY dependant on tax payer money in order to prevent his operations going bankrupt given the losses of them all overall.
p.s. this wasn't his first go... faaaaaar from it as the billions of dollars in scrap laying at the bottom of the ocean and scattered across several launch sites of prior failures can attest to. -.-
You give spacex too much credit
@@MaticTheProtoHave you seen what spacex is doing?
@@MaticTheProtohave you seen the starship 5 test last weekend? It was still a test, but it was another leap forward.

At 50 yrs old and a backer since 2018 I have come to terms with the fact I will not live long enough to play SC online finished. Now SQ 42 is starting to look like it is going to be the same.
This is actually a reality check to hear, hope u live a long and prosperous life
You'll be 52 when Sqd 42 comes out you'll be fine
SC on the other hand
Let's say SC comes out in 2034 you'll be 60 years old. With that age you'll have a good 10 to 15 years to play SC
You plan on dying at 52?
Bro chill you’re 50.
You don't think you'll live longer than a few years?
CIG's release dates are never on time ... when they give a date it just means it's not coming out that year/time. So when it says 2026, what cig is saying it's not coming out in 2026
I don't CARE about Space Worms.
I care about seeing my party members when I add them to the party.
I care about getting that Damn MOVE ALL button working.
I care about my ship suddenly rotating toward the sun, to end it all.
I care about my guy falling through the planet.
I care about my guy (in full armor and in a space station) suddenly gasping for air, and dying.
I care about having lockers on a ship that actually hold stuff.
I care about panels only spawning when you are 50 meters from them, and never showing up on radar.
I care about having a second elevator in my hanger for Ground vehicles, so I can put them on a ship.
I do not care about space worms, or NPC farms, or face piercings.
Oath, more opinions like this please. Speak up backers!
I care about my friends joining for free fly and having such a poor experience they let the others know to stay away
I care about a MASSIVE back catalogue and majority of ship features don't work
I don't care about more JPEGs and release date lies
(I'm down for worms though myself, Dunes the shit)
This is exactly what I care about also and I wanne add one more thing:
I care about preparing the ships that are already ingame, before adding systems that break said ships. (Like removing local inventory and leaving ships behind with no storage at all where I have to drop my stuff on the ground now... like in my Banu Defender
You are all Chris's and CIG's bitches. Stop moaning and keep paying (and praying)
I got you. Panel scan was fixed in the 3.24.2 before this horrible hotfix. So that works great now. First thing I tested as a hardcore salvage operator. O7
are they still marketing the space worm?
It broke the hope that Star Citizen or SQ42 could actually release one day, & for funding and just intrest in the project & that was a reallllly bad idea.
Also the fact that the new planet tech wont be in till 1.0 is awful
They show you the game almost done and the future of SC after meshing and thats now a bad idea? Its literally the picture of the dude mining for diamonds and stopping while someone else continues.

Last year, I was so incredibly excited. It felt like the game releasing was close. Both squadron and SC. This year, I realized it’s never going to be finished.
2026...I think I'm done with CIGs gaslighting

I literally will not be surprised if he's scraps everything and starts over and we get answer the call 2036. I wish I were joking and being sarcastic.
This is who Chris is. He keeps telling us over and over and over who he is and we never listen to him.

I don't and why? Because this is who Chris is.
Turret gameplay should be like swatting flies, not playing tag with fat kids.
All concept art. Really disappointed
They cannot show us ship gameplay, without having a flight model, damage model, ship ai... So they fake all of that in a nice cutscene.
@@Casey093 Yep, didn't understand why the visitors were going mad when they showed a short video montage of something what is obviously not in game and is probably years away. (The scene where many characters were busy working on screen, like an on planet operation of an org or something)
The coolest tech, ships, inviroments, AI and even gameplay dont mean Squat if the servers cant run it effectively
This game will never be released. It's worth significantly more as a concept. And Chris Roberts recogbizes that

we will have fusion power before sc comes out.
With what SpaceX just accomplished, we will have actual space travel before SC and SQ42 comes out.

TWO years is what they said... so it's 5 years really. Star Citizen is fucked in the meantime... Jank, no ships that are 10 years promised and no game play.

@@aguy446 For real. Complete mismanagement from the beginning. Horrid.
It’s been a while that I kept up with it being a backer back in 2016. But if you need to make/sell ships for more money, where are the resources pumping into finishing the game rather than pulling resources to build these “ships” so you can just fly it around….in polishing phase but needs another two years….Damn game better not have a single glitch or balancing issue when released at this point.
That about sums it up, yeah.
@@duweydang😂😂😂 good luck with that
I would have lost the house if I bet, as I would have said summer 2025 before watching CitCon. SO literally for the last YEAR they've been "polishing SQ42", and yet we're going to go through ANOTHER CitCon in another YEAR where they're STILL "polishing"??? What the fuck are they gonna show in the NEXT CitCon about SQ42... the ending??????
If you want to make a turd look like a gold brick it's going to take a lot of polish.
Last year I did said 2026 optimistically and 2927 realistically. And all they need to show next citcon is the polish prelude, and then in 2026 the finished prelude, they don't need much to please the community
Do you know how game dev works? Polish is not just optimisation. Honestly 3 years of polish is a little tight for squadron.
Once the game launches the cash cow dies. They will still have income, but the majority will be gone. I firmly believe that about 6 years ago they restructured for the sole purpose of becoming a pyramid scheme and do not have any plans to actually launch SC. They might drop SQ42, but then they will say something like "Well, SC is too far away, so we're going to make SQ42 part 2 for now". Most of the 10 year people are fed up and done and it gets worse every year.
The reason it's always two years away is because the community continues to fund the company without demanding a product. Why would CIG ever feel a need to deliver if their revenue stream depends on hype and potential? They're going to coast as long as they possibly can on this funding model.
I think it's also important to note that Chris Roberts said the game was in a polishing state last year, meaning CIG is taking THREE YEARS just to perfect it. Or, he was lying. Or, there was some other major failure in the past year that caused them to need a fundamental rework. None of these options are good.
Yup and next month is the Intergalactic Aerospace Expo so more ship sales and more server crashes because that whole month, new and old players are trying to get on and play.
Sorry to say it, but I think there's a high likelihood he was lying. Going from past experience this seems to be a common theme.
Thats why so many people pointed out "its FEATURE complete" but not "CONTENT complete", but yea we got ridicouled.
Frankly speaking i was surprised the given release date was earlier than 2028.
When they want to release SC in parallel, its not gonna be 2026, thats for sure. Or it will be completely empty with no gameplay.
I would say SQ42 will be launched earlier so they actually have funding for SC, but if people keep on spending, obviously they won't release SQ42 earlier.
@derjadebaum9159 They got IAE next month so lots of people are gonna buy ships lol.
They just gave us a mountain of hype to hit us with the bad news; another two year wait. For being feature complete (a statement made before master modes was introduced) and just needed a polish phase, two years seems like kicking the can. It’s just a rough year and faith in the game is waning. They’re clearly building but things are going very slowly.
Personally, I joined in 2022 and I am giving 5 years then I am moving on.
Entered in 2014 iam Out since 2020 and dont Play often anymore because the Game is Always the Same Buggy mess. I mean its Not even a game yet Cloud intentions Gaming are starting to build a Mmo this years. So i think 8-13 years this SC will be at a state where WE can say its a mmo
Thing is, the studio will undoubtedly collapse without consistently hooking in new buyers, so faith in the game waning, may as well be an air raid siren at this point.
I first backed in 2012, and ill say im a total doomer on this project as it stands now. Seeing plenty of reports that they cant keep anyone with game dev experience due to CIG not being able to take input from people that have done this before. Incredible amounts of micromanaging, and no clear direction or standards of practice for their development team. they need to tell the art and marketing departments to shut the hell up for the next 10 years, and let the engineers drive the ship for awhile.
@@sirbonobo3907 Thats the sad part of the presentation. SQ42 will be 2026, but we sure know SC will be so far down the road. Good thing about it that SQ42 may be able to finance the show, but if SQ42 will fail because its more like movie and not a game then we also know SC will never exist.
lolololololololol to 5 years
some people have been waiting since 2012
you have nothing to fear
The BIG REDACTED REVEAL (SQ42 gameplay) crashed 3 times.....live and in 4k. Womp womp.
It did this during cutscenes, not dynamic gameplay.........again, womp womp. "Feature complete" my ass. One would think the first "feature" you'd "complete" would be zero crashes in a single-player game, especially during the parts that are just a pre-recorded movie.
It isn't prerecorded the cut scenes are in game.....not a pre rendered movie. You can tell. All of that was technically gameplay.
The 2026 release date for SQ42 really sucked all of the wind out of my sails. I knew that the ppl saying 2024 release were high as a kite, but 2026? Oof. I did not have that on my bingo card.
The problem is 2026 will come and go, and it won't be released. That is my fear at this point, but all you have to do is look at how many times they have promised a release date and missed it. They sure make pretty ships though.
@keysersozeh3576 agreed, that's my fear as well. CIG are notorious for blowing deadlines, so 2026 could mean 3 or 4 more years
Honestly, 2026 is what I was "hoping" for, while expecting 2028 lol. I felt people were a bit too optimistic with 2025 with how CIG is at bug squashing. And the fact they show more than other games in the dev process, people thinking "feature complete" means really soon is kinda crazy to me. I do hope it manages to come early 2026, though.
Sep 2025 seemed reasonable as they had reached the polish phase by Oct 2023.. it’s an absurd length of time, and really while I’m all for games being released in a high quality state, CIG are a joke.
You white knights where way to naive when claiming SQ42 was going to drop at the end of 2024, like minimum end of 2025, 2026 seems reasonable and 2027 a very likely release year
People who saw the worm 7 years ago all the sudden think game is almost done when the show a couple more produced worm videos. The simps deserve to never get the game.
2016 = HOLD THE LINE! A Decade later .... STILL GONNA BE HOLDING ....
Don't worry though we got new INSTANCE GRINDING MISSIONS for the FEATURE CREEP tally this year!
instance content is a staple of every mmo. id hardly call that feature creep.

I'm in Australia so I stayed up late to watch the presentation. It started at 3:30am and I thought it would be a nice half hour with an announcement date to close it off. Moments later I saw it was 5am and I thought, "Oh shit I have to get up in 4 hours." That prologue presentation was so immersive that I didn't realise that so much time had passed. I was really invested.
I am still so surprised with all these people disliking and surprised by the cinematics, I mean, it’s Chris roberts, what were people expecting!?
Totally agree, it was to be expected that Chris will take advantage of his strength. CIG was always good at cinematics.
We also have to take into consideration its the first mission which mostly is an intro and tutorial. We have to know how the rest will be.
But on the other side I more than ever understand the frustration of the people who bought into the hyper expensive ships that are clearly for the multiplyer part.
@@derjadebaum9159 Yeah, you’re spot on on all your points.
Two years away will turn into 3... 4... 5 years away. Until people stop buying ships there is NO pressure to finish the project
Exactly! As long as the money flows, they have no reason to release the game, and stop the ship sales.
Specialist armor until the game bugs and you die and lose it permanently.
Started my Star Citizen support in 2017. Just kind of grew tired of all the failed promises, crappy servers and quit playing in 2022. Until Star Citizen gets out of Alpha, I'm just over it. Could be an amazing game if they would just finish the damn thing and made it more reliable.
They could have "just finished" the game and we would have gotten another garbage Starfield game. No thanks. You want a game that's "just finished", you can go play that. They are making 2 AAAA games simultaneously. It took the largest gaming company 11 years to make Diablo 3 which is merely a top down game. You would have quit on Diablo 3 if it was open developed before it was even halfway finished.
@@ErikLiberty They can offer expansions like good games do. The fact Star Citizen has been "in the making" since 2012 and we still don't even have stable servers is a disgrace. Just that alone would drawl more players in to stay.
You must have to take out loans to afford railgun ammo
It would be really good move for CIG, IMO, if they had streamed gameplay sessions, every so often, where Chris Roberts, a few of the top devs, along with some streamers, playing the game for a few hours. It would show them what a typical person's experience is, inside the game and also show the players that they are aware of the true state of the game.
They cannot even do a single player demo without a crash. Like wtf.
Hilarious considering EA couldn't release Jedi: Survivor without it crashing every 20 minutes. But at least that released, I guess.
@@CBadger I guess, it did look pretty amazing though. I don't want to be debbie downer, but I'm also not hopeful for a stable star citizen experience for at least another 3 years, if this is 2 years out.
I hear all of the complaints which i can understand to one degree or another. One I hope the game development never stops.
I am absolutely addicted to this experience.
I don't do what others do yes I run missions but it's not about the points or the biggest ships. While incredibly buggy at times, when it functions well enough to do things, it is truly amazing slowly for me anyway I can do more and more longer than I used to.
For instance.
I want a ground vehicle with a bed so I can fly to and drive across planets. I don't quantum travel everywhere and I enjoy the scenery. I have flown several 1000km plus flights that can tale a couple of hours.
The systems have changed intensely in the past year.
Ii played over 4000 hours in Elite I heard all of this there also. I played in an area got to know it well and played the background simulation. I manipulated it and did better than most.
I will do the same in this game.
As systems get added on and the player bases spreads out it will only get better.
So I understand the stress and frustration because yes they do over promise and under deliver, but they haven't quit so long as they work i will participate.
This game is never coming out. I thought the game looked great last year but compare it to this year's video and look how much they've changed for no reason. Chris will never be happy with it because tech is always improving. Just release the damn thing!
Literally coming in 2026...did you not see the demo. Cyberpunk took over 10 years and when it released it was hot garbage. Couple years later and ppl love it. If sq42 was released right now it would be the same buggy mess.
i like how voidys mind always goes straight to robberies xD
I joined the verse to learn how to Grift from a Master Grifter. I have not been disappointed. Chris has y'all so well trained he only shows up once a year, lies about what's coming "real soon" then disappears - and collects another 100 million dollars - impressive.
For real. What a slap in the face to the community
the hover bikes was in the red wood biome which has bigger but fewer trees and was a call back to return of the Jedi
Another two years for my Idris??? That broke me.
My "hope-ium" remains strong. Star Citizen remains a great project and it still remains the type of game I'm looking for as i get older. Gone are my days of COD lobbies and MMO dailies. Yes, i feel the frustration of others, the time it takes to develop features etc. The 2 years away (again) for Squadron felt like a bit of a gut punch... It doesn't matter. Looking forward to one day floating around in an Endeavor, space farming, space trucking or maintaining Capitals with a Crucible. Leaning more into a support role, having highish ping and generally sucking at dog fighting so these type of roles suit me. Anyways, looking forward to day 2. Enjoying seeing the verse grow, strength to strength. o7 Citizens!
Don't worry, the sword swallowing community will keep this game funded until the end of time
no , the times have changed...you cant drag Hype for 10years and constantly dissapoint. The breaking point has alredy started....
lot of comments here supports my claim
it is going downhill, that is why 1hour Intro prologue was SHOWn to get money for game development
Careful, I said knob goblin and got a ban on spectrum.....I feel like they'd have banned me for sword swallower too..🤣
What do we really expect from a developer that is still trying to figure out what they want the flight model to do after over a decade of development. The flight model is kind of fundamental for a space ship game. Maybe that should be like one of the first things done.
I laughed when I saw the Sand Worm, because it put the digital goodie Sand Worm Plushie into context.
I think this time the two years make actually sense. That 2016 release date was just bonkers…
10:15 the answer is bring multiple players, they want people to bring one of every 'role' to maximise your capability. bring a specialised pilot, not just do it yourself in worse armour etc.
11:42 that's fine if they do that, idrises cost a lot of damn money and time to get normally and if you wanna go in and blast it with your bought timesave one that's part of the deal of spending that money. ordinary players will still work up to this. also, some people coming in and taking the kill just before it dies and stealing the loot - how would they do that if they weren't outgunned by you? if they can beat you in firepower they may as well have just killed the sandworm themselves right? why bother waiting for your less powerful ships to take it down just to steal it from them after? they would just kill it themselves if they wanted it I would think? and if they're just weaker ships trying to steal it, then they'll just get blasted
The problem about speeders is that there is no reason to use them
Two years (or more) away is long enough to just not care about SQ42 at all. And with Star Citizen having server crashes every 10 minutes, it's pretty hard to care about that as well. A pretty picture show at CitizenCon as always, but for all intents and purposes nothing much has changed.
Last year they announced in glorious fashion, "SQ42 is now feature complete!" A year later, we now know that it is at least 3 years away from that original announcement.
Especially if some of these cave systems have multiple entrance/exists with discoverable resources and harvestables within them.
I think, I can answer one question:
Why are we able to pilot our ship even with heavy armour? Because not all ships have suitlockers yet and not all will get suitlockers. But you should be able to do FPS missions with your small starter ship.
it was good for me and i would be fine with how it played, i'm not in this for COD gameplay, but for higher fidelity big open space environments, i can car less if SQ42 would come at beginning all buggy like some other games, i'm glad one dam single developer makes something like SC
I find it strange that they introduced POI clustering without talking about ROADS.
I have the feeling that SQ42 is ready but they are porting it for consoles. CR said to answer the call in 2016. If it is finally feature complete in 2024, two years are inexplicable long time in development time
An interesting show. But lets face it, how much of this is just CIG pie in the sky shennanigans?. Do we really expect to see people wearing t-shirts with their guild motif on it within 4 years?. Let alone ships. How many years at tier 0 are we going to have the weather system before it looks anything like what we saw?. I'd love to see everything we saw in this game, i really would, but we've been here so many times it's hard to fall for it yet again.
the SQ42 demo was the demo of the starting mission it was basically the world introduction and training the gameplay starts when you join the Idris as shown in the final part of the clip
when it was playing i felt the same but this was the intro tutorial not mission 1
About the Worm. I think it is a bit of misdirection like it was the first time.
Personally, I think it’s gonna be funny when the whole thing actually bombs on the quality of the story it’s been written for more than 10 years and we haven’t heard anything about it
this!
it'll be extremely cinematic, but say very little to nothing of substance. and that'll be a shame
@@kookiespace as long as the gameplay is top tier, but i dont see that happening, s42 comes after the ptu, its always been that way, thats why we dont see anything about s42
@@justinlinty After seeing that turret gameplay and how janky the FPS combat was, I don't know how you can think it is going to be top tier. Hopefully they can pull a rabbit out of a hat, but I'm not super hopeful anymore.
@@jackinthebox301 i think the same thing man
That gameplay demo was 90 percent cut scenes, i hope when they say 40 hrs gameplay that doesnt include cutscenes..
I would assume 30-40 hours will include cutscenes, but we have to know if in the game itself there will be so much cutscenes or if it just was because of the start / tutorial mission.
Or, to paraphrase that Annie song: "tomorrow! tomorrow! tomorrow is always two years away"
Everything leads to - "And what if you have someone on the inside and when X gets to Y your whole org descends down on them raining destruction and takes all of their Z?"
We are almost in 2025, time flies. The game needs lots of marketting and also remember, SQ42 needs to be perfect because if it is not it will kill future funding for Star Citizen. It is all strategic and with the huge wave of negative gamers killing game studios lately I think it is the right approach.
Haha I don’t know what people are so upset about. Squadron 42 looks great to me and can take 2 years to finish no problem. I’ve been waiting since they first announced the project so patience is not new to me. Also the starcitizen stuff looked INCREDIBLE especially the pve lower levels of Arccorp
imagine being 15 and just finding out about star citizen. it'll release when you're maybe 30 and you can enjoy it. im currently 37. and its either alzeihmers or star citizen to come first. not sure tho.
I find it pretty sad for people that have backed this project for such a long time, however I also find it amusing as I didnt jump on SC until late 2022.
I followed its progress now and again and had a friend who played it for a long time before, id ask him about its state from time to time and when I finally had nothing to interest me, I took the plunge.
For me if it sticks to its release sate of 2026, ill have waited 3 years which is why I find it amusing. SQ42 always interested me more as I enjoy the universe from a lore standpoint and everything they have shown for somebody who hasnt obsessed over the project is very impressive.
Sucks for you long term guys, but for me its great, this is why obsession never goes well for people, they set expectations and instantly set themselves up for failure.
There was talk of it releasing this year... did you actually watch the last demo they previewed of SQ42? From an optimisation standpoint it was a massive mess, anybody who thought 2024 was honestly deluded because if it was the case.... we watched a different showcase.
whats two more years at this point, just hope they wont go broke before. I recommend the recent insider gaming article about SC to anyone who is interested.
Glad we got a release date but yeah it was pretty disappointing to be so far away. I knew it was a fever dream but I was thinking there was a possibility of a like "SQ42 releases on Monday" type announcement. I thought a realistic guess would be an announcement for next summer but a full year plus was a bit of a gut punch
That wasn't a release date, it was a vague ''possibly''. CitizenCON isn't about releases
2026 at least escapes the GTA 6 dominance of 2025. But WHO KNOWS!! Perhaps they might release SQ42 earlier than 2026 if all is done??
knowing SC i would still expect sq42 to come out in 2027 after 30% of its features/content is cut
There was a movie with Tom Hanks called Money Pit.
How will this take?
Two weeks.
Two Weeks?! That's amazing!
as he drives off: Amazing?... It'll be a damn miracle.. HaHAHAHAH
How about Chris blaming the computer for the crashes... clearly he doesn't play his own games...
Yesterday CitizenCon was horrible :(
They promised to releaseQ4 2024 then got pushed to Q1 2025 what we got was 2026 to everyone's surprise...
They told us that you can leave a rifle on the ground on a planet and that it will still be there days later, but in reality they can't even make a bolt from a crossbow to last in the universe
what tells me they are not even close to what they promised.
What we seen as a demo was halve already released last year.
In my eyes they still did not deliver and ill wait till they release Polaris as they promised (end of Januari 2025) if they screw up again I'm selling my account.
"It's always 2 years away". Exactly. Last year we were told by CR that SQ42 was "feature complete" and in "polishing", server meshing was proven tech and there were many new features coming, very likely next (this) year. Most of that was false and they knew it. If they can't get SQ42 (a single player campaign originally promised for 2014) working after all these years, what hope is there for an MMO version? Sadly, CitCon today was more of the usual gaslighting, with some more pretty features we might get, glossing over server meshing as if it was done, leading to the inevitable quest for ship sales to keep the machine running for another year. "Server meshing" is NOT done and can't be done short of network speeds beyond the speed of light with massive bandwidth. Where's Elon when you need him Chris? They're still struggling with getting one virtual node for Stanton and another for Pyro working with a few hundred players per node. This year they changed their database tech yet again, desperate for performance improvements. The jump amounts to a loading mini-game and comes a year after the "server meshing demo" (that had multiple failures on local hardware) which still doesn't work in game. Yet this is miles away from near real-time interaction between dynamic nodes in close in-game proximity (Imagine a fleet-on-fleet battle with capital ships and dozens of fighters and boarders). Add to that a business model based almost entirely on selling ships and vehicles, as in playable (someday) assets that give you an advantage in game. This is proven not to be a viable business model in many failed games. The annual cost of servers, network, storage, operational and support staff needs to be covered by annual recurring revenue, e.g. subscriptions. It's far too late for CIG to introduce subscriptions now, the community would rebel. So we have years of missed delivery dates for ships and vehicles, game features and server tech that can't even be achieved along with a business model that is proven to fail. Haters, I'm a long-time Wing Commander backer (over $10k spent) and a 30+ year global IT veteran, used to believe in the game (despite knowing better about these obvious facts), but I just can't take anymore B.S.. If you disagree on any point or points, prove me wrong. Don't just whine, call me names like a middle school kid and make up false motives, give me a real argument based on facts and analysis. I would love for you to convince me I'm wrong and that the dream will come true, even if it takes years. If not, when will the community decide that enough is enough? I, for one, am done putting more good money after bad.
BRO, you just need some more hopium😂
@@briangueringer3673 Lol, wish it was that easy!
@@rocketman6973 Yeah it's bad. Has been bad since day 1. All the clowns talking about "there never been a game like this eeeehhhh" are making it worse. I think there is an 80% chance these dudes go BK. It sucks but I don't see a way around it. They probably have 3 months of cash at a given time and who knows, maybe this trash showing at Cit Con will be the gut punch that sends the whole thing into a death spiral...
Every since MM, I don't even want to play anymore. Doesn't feel better than ED at this point to fight in...
I guess that would be the final Irony, Elite out living SC.
I would laugh my azz off...
And be sad....
Because the once in a lifetime opportunity to make an amazing space game will done ....
Not to mention the damage it is going to do to crowd funded projects that attempt a massive scale project in the future....
Suckz, and I am right there with you bro.
Got any of that hopium I can hit bro? 😆 🤣 😂
@@briangueringer3673 Bro, wish I did, spent all my cash on ships! :-) I have a Kraken, Idris, Polaris, BMM, Endeavor Master Pack, etc. Most won't see the light of day for years, if ever. I dreamed of having a fleet like a US Navy Carrier Strike Group, centered on the Kraken (I'm a former Navy DoD contractor working with NAVAIR). Seems silly now. I did find some amazing friends playing SC though, so maybe it was worth it. I'm just done funding the game anymore.
Maybe the "worm boss" is in a secret location that you only get when beating a contested zone? This would prevent other orgs from doing what you mentioned.
Dont worry, it will never be in the game
I am not at all happy to find that I might have to swim against a tidal wave of enforced 'togetherness' in order to play emergently with others!! I want to be voluntary, not compulsory!!
ive been saying we really get to start the game 2030/31 to everybody for the last 2 yr or so
what you are talking about is not abuse of the game system its planting a spy which is work as intended
My big worry from watching the SQ42 demo is how often the Vanduul knock you on your ass lmao.
I understand he was on the hardest difficulty, but if the Vanduul are knocking you over with every other attack during combat, they are not going to be fun to fight.
I would be curious what a company like for example Egosoft (the company behind the X-Series) or CCP games (the company behind Eve Online) could have achieved with the same budget in the same time. Because to be honest, I think it would have been more than what was done here.
It was pushed back from a 25 to a 26 release because of GTA6.
SQ42 better have absolutly ridiculous levels of quality and polish on Day1, especially if it has a lot of cutscenes. Because cutscenes don't rely on player input, so you should be able to optimize them to absurd degrees. Film trilogies have their complete SFX done in 3 years at pretty amazing quality (e.g. LotR).
When I look at CP2077 and how much they did in 2 years post release and SQ42 is supposed to be finished since last year, so they have in total 3 years to polish it until 2026 and they don't have consoles to account for (CP wasted a lot of ressources on deciding to make the old consoles viable-ish). I don't much care for Star Citizen, I want to a gripping story with breathtaking presentation.
It looks to me like CIG are implementing AI into Genesis, because without it is impossible for placement of all assets, and without is impossible to individually customise, impossible to finish.
So it looks to me like star-engine overhaul needed for Genesis to generate all asset parameters.
Tbh, this doesnt surprise me
Another 2 years? I'm shocked!! This is why I recently uninstalled the Tech Demo from Hell. I decided that I couldn't bear to see one more NPC standing on the furniture...
If its beginning of 26 then its not so far away. If its later 26 then its very sad. Overall 26 is only 14 months away, so it all depends..
Why didn't we get a Blizcon moment, with all the hardcore fans booing CIG?
ANOTHER 2 years lol.
