    • @Fribee83
      @Fribee83 4 месяца назад +3

      There was a huge shake-up in the contracting world at the start of the pandemic. A lot of the older contractors who were making big money weren't retiring prior to the pandemic which meant there was a blockage in advancement so if you were an apprentice, you'd continue to be one for years it there were fewer positions available and the market was crowded. Once covid happened, a lot of the older people who were making the money retired but the people under them didn't have the proper experience on running a business and the people under them didn't have experience as a foreman, and the people under them-you get the idea. So suddenly the whole industry was suddenly shifting up and since people were spending more time in their homes due to lockdowns which had people wanting to renovate and improve their living spaces with paint, flooring, cabinets, etc. That meant a lot of new contractors and construction workers were starting their business but without any of the experience they should have in a market flooded that they could charge high prices. It's why the defendant didn't have a contract or know the basics about running the business on credit; he just knew how to do the labor. It's kind of a fascinating study in labor.

He said the hard and fast rule about money 🤑 is that you, the contractor, take a third of the money up front for supplies and maybe some early wages; another third at the halfway point; the final third + any cost overruns (providing you don't renegotiate as you go along) when it's finished. I'm really shocked that more of them don't follow that simple and effective "rule."

She would have to have some kind of proof other than a vet's say so, as that's just an opinion, not solid proof.
    When buying a puppy, always ask to see the parents of the puppy so you have a better idea of what it will look like when it grows up! If you want a purebred, do your research on the breeder. Bottom line is... puppies are wonderful even when they aren't purebreds. $100 is a bargain for a puppy!

    wow, look how many times he uses "there is no contract" as a red flag? -- no accountability at all.

    This defendant is still a novice, who does an $18K job without a contract? It turned out to be too big a job for one guy to handle.

    I think he undersold himself (labor+materials at 18k) and then thought about it so he tried to change the terms.

    I love how Doug and the judge can determine a bad contractor because he made a decision not to do the job after waiting four weeks for money and making a decision. I understand it usually the other way around, but it wasn’t… Oh, I forgot she’s the daughter of a contractor.

    He says he just saw too many red flags. Like what? He says, like there wasn't a contract from the beginning and there was a big delay.......... Which were his doing. Yep. There were red flags all right. About him. And under what circumstance can he walk away from the job and literally keep the money for the materials that he never bought?!? He really believes this is how you treat customers and do business? Buyer beware.

    Terrible judgement. This guy is not an effective communicator. He wanted 25% of the labor money as he had already done the demolition. He was labor based which means he needed cashflow. 18K labor only was the agreement. All she needed to do was make partial payments to him. This judge clearly heard they went on a honeymoon for two weeks after payment was requested and when they returned they still refused payment. They went a month with no payment for labor and he already had 3 full days of demo work done. No way this judge came from construction as they would never work for free either. The judge never did any math on anything.
