because rory calls her to pick her up and she says: "Are you listening to me? I can't leave. She won't let me leave ever. This is Iran in '79 and you are Jimmy Carter. What do we do?"
Thank you! Had not watched this one in a long time, plus it's one of my least favorite episodes, so it's possible the last time I watched through that season I skipped it.
I love Rory's facial expression at about :25. Lol. Their laughing always makes me laugh, and their tears always make me cry! I love this show so frickin much!!!!
I get the part that Rory is being held captive by her mother and Lorelai is Jimmy Carter who saves the Americans, but does Richard going to sleep have anything to do with it?
I know this was 13 years ago, but the fact that he went to bed shows that she was really just keeping her for pettiness, making her understand the carter reference.
Meckenize Adams basically, in Iran 1979 there was this famous hostage situation which lasted 444 days causing it to become the longest hostage situation ever. So Rory compared the amount of days that the people were kept hostage to the fact Emily "forced" Rory to stay.
Yes. Iran, hostages, Carter... I am familiar with the reference. How does this translate to uncontrollable laughter once she realises har dad has already gone to bed? Can anyone explain how this cultural reference is cause for hilarity?
+Osmium Gus I think it was mostly that she was exhausted so her happiness for getting the reference turned quickly into uncontrollable laughter (the latter happens to me often when I'm super exhausted)
"I am so tired *laughs hysterically*" literally me when I don't get sleep 😂
lorelai's laugh seems so natural, she really made me laugh

I have no clue what they're referring to but I love this show so much!!! All 7 seasons on DVD, baby!!!!
Lol! For a long time I didn't get the reference, but Lorelai's laugh just made me laugh!
Why didn't Lorelai just tell Emily that she was running some last minute errands for Rory?
Then she would have to admit that they a mistake and Emily would blame her for not being prepared.
@@megandixon64 yeah, nothing would've been good enough for Emily at that point. I finally accepted it haha.
You really think Emily would listen. She would blame Lorelai for Rory's mistake. Which I can understand the wrong date thing.
Love the way Rory was happy to see loreal.

Rory's expression: #KMN
I just got what she meant by the reference yesterday.
yup, I think is the night before she moves to Yale
idk but you know emily wouldn't have believed her even if she did

Grandma not mom

it is called ballrooms and biscotti it is the first episode of the fourth season
Lorelai should on be Ronald Reagan not Jimmy Carter. If Lorelai was Jimmy Carter then she would try and fail to rescue Rory.
Well it wasn't in the scrip was it
I'm not sure what season but I think the episode is called Ballrooms and Biscotti
'79 hostages, i think....
I have no idea what their talking about???? PLEASE TELL ME!!!!
