Simply beautiful explanation: short, sweet , to the point yet very informative and most enjoyable. Thank you a million Susan - my most favourite, most ingenious and most inspiring knitting professor. I do love all your videos. They are simply addictive. Truly, most brilliant work. Many, many thanks again.
Very good video. I have looked at several videos and they are very confusing. You demonstrated what will happen if you twist the stitches. I especially appreciate you letting me know how to keep the slip stitches tight. I have struggled with this part. Thank you again and happy knitting.
OMG I have finally found this perfect video. I have been searching for days for a video that would explain this and you did a brilliant job. Thank you Thank you.
Thanks for the explanation of that. Over the years I think I'd always heard to slip pw unless it stated otherwise. This makes a lot of sense, because now I'll pay more attention to the way I want the edge stitch "sitted".
Excellent demonstration. I've seen many and this is the clearest I've seen. Also it helps that you are demonstrating the continental way of holding the yarn. I'm getting a nice edge, but still have a question. I have heard that the slip stitching of the edges is supposed to help stop the curling too. Mine still curls. Am I asking too much or is there another tip.
Slip stitching the edge doesn't help with the curl. If you want to prevent the curl, you have to add at least an inch of some type of border like seed stitch, garter stitch or ribbing. Thank you! I hope you have chosen to subscribe to my channel and that you will share my videos on your social media groups such as FB, Ravelry, Pinterest, Reddit, etc. Happy knitting, Suzanne.
It depends on what you are making. Stockinette stitch will pretty much always curl unless you put a border on it. The border would need to be at least an inch wide and sometimes that won’t even stop the curl. If it is an animal fiber that you are working with like wool, blocking helps a lot.
@@SuzanneBryan O my gosh that would be fantastic! I am trying to get started on a project and can't get past that because I am not sure if I am doing it correctly. My work has a bar in it and I don't think it looks correct. I also have not been able to find a video on it. Thanks so much for responding to me and could you let me know when you've posted! Thanks so much!
Hi Suzanne I . Doing a mosaic pattern that calls for slipping last stitch on needle 1. When I want to now start needle 2 my working yarn is not at the beginning, but 1 stitch in from the end. How do start the second needle?
I did this in garter and am finding one edge has the nice edge, but the other doesn’t. Dang, now what do I do. I’m knitting tVenezia Shawl by Joji Locatelli and it is a modified diamond shape shawl, so having matching edges is important.
Hi - I have a pattern which says slip all first stitches. However, after casting on, when I try to slip the first stitch and knit the next, the stitches come off the needle and I end up with 8 stitches. Any ideas anyone?
Thanks a lot. You answered all my questions in a single video. ❤❤❤
I was told about this years ago but have never met anyone who has done it. Thankyou very much for taking the trouble to make this video. Excellent.
You are so welcome, Fussy! And what a lovely thing to say, thank you! ❤️
Very helpful
Thank you! This makes more sense than what I was doing. I understand better. Still need to watch again, but so happy I found you!
Another concise, lucid explanation. Understand WHY the stitches are slipped in this way will help me to remember how to do it. Great teaching. Thanks.
Thank you Catherine Wallace! Happy knitting.
THANK YOU! I've had the hardest time finding a video showing both knit and purl slip stitches.
Perfect. Happy Knitting!

Loved this demonstration. Thank you. It is super clear and informative.

A little late, but thank you.
Thank you for the "why" explanation. Such a clearly explained technique.
Glad it was helpful!

Thanks, great explanation, never knew this and always wanted a better looking edge. Now I can!
SewEasyCreations Thanks so much for watching and commenting. I am glad this helped you. Happy Knitting!
Great explanations! Why are edges curling and how to avoid it? 🤗

Thx for clearing explaining this
Happy to help, Linda!
my pattern says slip1 with yarn forward - what does that mean? it does not say whether to P or K, just to slip1 one
Can you show how to slip two stitches purlwise at the beginning of the row? Thanks
Yes, I can add that to my todo list.

May I add that after slipping those two stitches purl wise, the pattern calls to knit 3.
So, what you are creating is an I-cord edge to your work. Can you give me the name of the pattern you are working?
Maybe I am not reading the pattern correctly.
very clear -- thank you.
Thank you! Happy knitting.

You would have to slip that first stitch again.
Suzanne, My slip stitch on the purl side are loose than the other side. Do I just need to pull the yarn tighter?
Yes, before you make the first stitch, make sure and snug up that last stitch, which is now the slipped st. Work on the tips of your needles.

If you are working in garter, you would always start the row by slipping knitwise. Try it on a swatch and see what you think. 🧶
Perfect! This helped me so much! Thanks
Wonderful! Happy knitting.
you're wonderful!
Thank you, Victoria!

+pward1969 What cast on method are you using?
+Suzanne Bryan The.2 needle method.
+pward1969 On the first row, do not slip the first stitch.
I now know where I was going wrong. I was casting off incorrectly but thank you Suzanne...
+pward1969 Excellent.
