It was a nice moment with dream and nightmare at the start but then I felt like throwing my phone at the villagers-
It's truly saddening, considering Night was strong, but he was 6, just a kid and didn't have the courage to defend himself

"I want to try a different hairstyle that I don't typically like" but what he actually meant was "I'm trying to change myself. I'll change what I like, I'll do stuff I'm uncomfortable with, I'll be normal. I'll be different." And BOY HOWDY does that end up well! Everything stays the same despite his best efforts. Everything, even the things that dream did to help, are kicked under the rug. He can't escape who he is, not with the villagers around. So his abusers try to change him back, they try to keep him in that role of "Hideous, depressive demon." They cut his hair. Of course it doesn't end up the way the hair originally was. It's worse, ugly, and rushed. There was no care put into it; Only the desire to change him. And guess what happens to him? Of course, even after that hack-job haircut and his corruption, Dream tried to make it more bearable for him, but he can't fix it. Not even restyling the hair can hide what happened. What happened because of the villagers will always be more than obvious; the only way to move past it is to accept the wound and learn to live with it (something that Dream does, to his credit, try to do. He also noticeably misses and tries to bring back the old hairstyle, the old Nightmare after his corruption). I love the hug at the end.
"This is enough, Dream. The haircut is nice."
"That's nice, but you didn't get to keep that different look you were going for."
Nightmare is ready to accept it. It still obviously hurts him, but he's ready to let it go. Dream can't. He's shouting, upset, and so, so anguished that this happened to his brother, that the corruption took hold. He wants Nightmare to go back and change for the "better," to walk hand in hand with people from, if not the village, the Multiverse. But, well, I'll just let Nightmare's last line in that little conversation speak for itself.
"Actually, I did. You said so yourself. My hair is shorter than I usually keep it."
Listen to him, Dream, and trust him like you did when you were children. What more does he have to hide from you now that everything is gone?

Im astonished by how much you were able to pick up on from so little details on this 6 minute video. I loved reading all that you analyzed and trying to figure out the second meaning behind this, and would definitely love to come back to see what more you could say❤️
