Seems like their management forgot about their humble origins and got greedy, an all too familiar story in K-Pop. I'm glad that the girls all seem to have moved on and are succeeding in their own way, they truly deserve it.
It is true though that when you debut you already have a lot of debt to your company with all the training fees and such and they have to earn it back through their promotions and since they were really not earning much from the start i guess the debt piled up other groups even take years before they earn their paycheck but then bar bar bar was immensely successful so maybe their company really kept a lot of money from them.
CP was such a legendary group. They pretty much came outta the streets just to get their names known. A quirky yet humble group throughout their career. They always had given good fanservice not knowing if they were paid. If only we can get a group like them again but maybe a modern version. I was a fan of Crayon Pop before Barx3. Even after they blew up the fandom remained super nice and supportive. Crayon Pop were the true underdogs of kpop. The CEO sold his equipment and opened up the company. They were rejected from music shows so they did guerilla performances. They couldn't get on TV so the group and their managers and CEO filmed Crayon Pop TV which was just self-produced videos of them having fun and put in scenarios posted on RUclips. Their songs are just so much fun and appealed to anyone regardless of who you are because they were fun not trying to be sexy or rely on appealing to a gendered demographic that way. How many MC could you say would be fun or appealing to someone if they aren't attracted to the members. I was heartbroken when Soyul left the group but they had such an impact on me. One of my favorite fun facts about Crayon Pop is that whenever they were on one of those girl group wrestling match shows, they ALWAYS won even though they're so smol, especially soyul she was like their ace lol. This video is like bittersweet to me because I loved and stanned them so hard and I wish they could've stayed around as a group a little longer, but the time with them was great and its just as great to see them now with their families and individual lives doing and saying whatever the hell they want :')
They were innovators, while everyone else thought in theory, they made reality, they went to the streets gained an audience and fans, and I believe at time didn't take themselves to seriously, even the creator of the group was an out of the box thinker, and trust and believe they left a legacy behind, up and coming groups watched and learned consciously and subconsciously, sometimes you have to change the recipe to keep things interesting
They conveyed a humility. They didn't take themselves too seriously, and that was very appealing, especially compared to the many self-absorbed stars in music of all types. They really seem like nice young women who are sane and have good values.
Me too sort of. They were the first group I watched and liked, but I didn't follow them that deeply. Didn't really follow a Kpop group until this year.
I watched a video on Way's channel where she and one of her fellow Crayon Pop members were talking about making the "Bar Bar Bar" MV. In the scenes where that one ride was moving, they actually had to push it to get it going. There was no power to any of the rides.
I’m glad I was there for Crayon Pop. I literally stumbled across their debut music video not long after it was uploaded and I don’t understand why lol. But I fell in love immediately they were so damn quirky and they kept that concept. I never seen quirky done so good without it being cringey like wtf idk how they did it 😂
I think "quirky" is a bit too cliche a way to describe them, though that has become the standard label. To me, they seem humble and not to take themselves too seriously, so they can clown around unselfconsciously. They seem wholesome but not excessively prudish. And as a team, they seem to work well together. And they do seem to be hard working. Their dancing is energetic, and they convey positivity and cheerfulness. I have seen a couple of videos on Wayland where they get together and have fun. In one of them, Geummi and the twins visit Soyul and her family. I think that they are just good people, who happened to be in a K-pop group for a while.
So you're telling me that T-ARA's Roly Poly is the reason Crayon Pop was born. That's certainly an odd origin story. But Saturday Night makes more sense now, at least.

Fun fact: They all look short, but the tallest members are 165cm (5'5) tall lol and the shortest 160cm (5'3) I always thought that they were 5'1 to 5'3 lol
@@snoozefighting Yeah the short girls want to be tall and the tall girls want to be short. Hani of EXID was caught shaving cm of her height to seem cuter. Izone Yujin and WonYoung argued who was taller and Won Young lost being the tallest. Then Nako insisted she was 150 cm after stretching her growth plates she was measured at 149.9 cm and she was devastated.
The only time I saw them in real life they looked kinda 'small', especially up close. But they were on a stage and I was below so I couldn't really judge their height.
The quirky stories are great. They don't fit the usual big 3 management stories, and seemingly just perform because they love it. I mean, wearing winter coats in 30 deg (f) winter is dedication!
I understand the joy and hardships they went through. To literally be a defining moment in the history of a new industry is hard to grasp. Even though the pay wasn't good I probably would still do it just to say "I was there, I did that".
I heard of them. And i liked that they weren't made for looks but weirdness. And their story reminds me of Mamamoo's, street performances, being ignored in the industry, small and new company, little to none resources, as they got more popular they got a lot of haters ...etc. Love seeing the underdog win
I fell in love with this group when I first saw them. I was tired of the sexy, cuutsey girl groups and Crayon Pop was like a breath of fresh air! You had to smile looking at their get ups and their energy and music was so contagious! Thank you for this great video with all things Crayon Pop I never knew. Best wishes to each of them who brought so much happiness to the world!
This is a really good video about crayon pop and I learned a ton about them. Just wanna throw out that their song 'Lonely Christmas' was a bop also because the song was not featured here.
10:33 Fun fact- The music video for uh-ee was acully charting pretty high that year it was relesed the MUSIC VIDEO or MV for Uh-ee was relesed on march 21 2014 the song did pretty fine but however in that same year the MUSIC VIDEO or MV for Uh-ee got removed from korea tv or korean youtube and the reason it got deleted? the reason why it got removed from korea was because in the lyrics they used a Japanese word in the lyrics that could have translated to something else along with being banned with BLACKPINK BOOMBYAH (for using mature lyrics and mentioning the brand wine o' henny) and EXO LOTTO (for using the brand name lotto in the title) but is still avalible anywhere exept korea
even if you havent listened to their music before, their song(s) sound so familiar and sound like you’ve been binge listening to them for 2 days straight
Popjhussi are the most innocent and lovely fans in kpop and still support their girls, they're seriously lovely and crayonpop was the most enjoyable and wholesome fandom I've ever been in ❤❤❤❤❤
First of all, let’s just applaud whoever styled them for that Dancing Queen street performance👏👏. Most female idols get the smallest outfits for winter days when they are performing, so for me that styling was chef’s kiss👌. All the other companies’ stylists, learn😌
crayon pop will forever be in my heart. They were the first group I've ever listened to and enjoyed in 2013 before I was even a Kpop Stan in 2016. They are absolutely legendary and I still listen to their songs to this day
I've probably watch at least 6 of this content, and i must say this is probably the most detailed out yet. You kept most info's exposed or informed told in chronological order and very precise.
Well made timeline of my fave girl group Crayon Pop. One more detail. There’s also a change in CEO, one of the reason Crayon Pop didn’t renew their contract, according to Way
I ulted Crayon Pop. I still know their fanchants and support all the members. They were such a fun group and I recommend watching Crayon Pop TV, they are hilarious 😭
Man I was there for Bar Bar Bar 😭 i miss them so much, what a time that was. Their songs Saturday Night and Dancing Queen SLAP as well check them out!!
I loved Crayon Pop and still do. Their music and image was fun and unique, and they went from the streets to international fame for a hot minute by being different than everyone else, a concept groups that are trying to grab a foothold now (except for Dreamcatcher) don't seem to be able to grasp. The girls got shafted by their company the way many idols do, which is a shame, but in terms of music and presentation, they had the right idea.
i'm so glad you made this video. i been away from kpop since 2012 and didn't know anything about this group till i randomly watched Asian boss ft Way and became a fan of her through youtube. i learned alot from this video.
Crayon pop was the group that introduced me to korea and kpop, I was just a kid when I saw them. They reminded me of the wiggles with the bar bar bar song, and I loved so many of their songs like dancing queen. I miss their quirky songs
I'm army and blink but I get so angry when fans say such stuff. Sure they're inspiration, but 1 and mostly 2 gen paved the way. Fight me, I don't regret saying this.
But its true that bts paved the way tho international means, no one dared until bts entered in charts... ofc 1st gen made it easy for next gen to be successful but it's still a rough and difficult path until BTS paved it.
I liked Crayon Pop. They were actually the 3rd Kpop artist I had ever heard (Psy and 2NE1 were the 1st two). They were interesting enough I dug deeper than just watched a MV or 2 (like the 1st two I heard). I actually watched a few episodes of their reality show. I lost track of them, but I still fondly remember them. I recommend watching Way's RUclips channel. She has some interesting videos on kpop behind the scenes.
Hearing about crayon pop always makes me very emotional and I am not sure why. Maybe because the members seem so wholesome and because their story is so special. I wish they would have gotten treated better and that they were still releasing music today. One of my all time favourite groups.
Crayon Pop is a korean jewel, all of their songs filled my entire college time. It was sad to hear that they weren't paid enough. It's soothing to hear that gummi recently got married. There are many kpop group broke up and got really messy on their lives.
aaa i love crayon pop! they were so weird and catchy and fun. i miss their work but i'm glad they've all found happiness and success in their new ventures. that's most important. also go watch way's youtube channel wayland! she tells all kinds of stories about her life as an idol, some of them really insightful and some that are funny, like how their legs became so muscular after promoting the bar bar bar dance they looked like horses. her and her sister choa released a new song last year too, "my universe."
I found Crayon Pop a boy 4 years ago and fell in love instantly !! K-pop is very rare in the U.K. thanks to you tube, it’s the only way !! I feel that with the correct management Crayons could have conquered the world the way they did my heart !! 😍😍😍
I completely missed the Crayon Pop craze(I thought it was for kids). I remember the viral videos of kids jumping to bar-bar-bar but I didn't really discover their music until Asian Boss. I love these girls. They completely embody the cute/nerdy/quirky vibe and I could see why their mostly male fan base was RABID(Korea and Japan). While everyone else was trying to put out a sexy girl crush vibe, these girls kept it cute and petite minus the "Teen Disney Princess" vibe(they probably didn't have that kind of budget anyways). Instead they went with school uniforms and tracksuits(which is like a uniform for male students studying for college). They have great song with great lyrics and meanings too. My faves are Bing Bing, FM, and 1.2.3.4. It's too bad they weren't better managed and financed but then again, they probably wouldn't be CRAYON POP if they were. lol
I loved bar bar bar I played it and still play it a lot. I remember when they came to Australia I begged my boss to give me a day off work but it didn’t happen... this was when I was discovering kpop
thats why they have this T-ARA vibe in them because they are inspired by T-ARA i love them both very much i discover them 2 weeks ago and i love Crayon pop very much they're song is a bop after bop like T-ARA they are like baby T-ARA sister. Im a big T-ARA fan so im proud.i love crayon pop.
I've always thought each member of Crayon Pop was an underrated visual💖 They are all so pretty! I always knew there was some type of connection with T ara, i just did'nt know what it was🙄
i miss crayon pop, i used to listen to them alot when they debuted bc i was only around six or smth then,, i felt like i could relate with their songs. its a shame they couldn't have lasted longer
I loved Crayon Pop. They were so underrated, but they were one of the few groups, where I'd listen to their entire album. Their songs have the most nostalgic melodies. I think Crayon Pop and f(x) had the best B sides of this generation. 🤗
They are one of my favorite gg before. I remember listening to their songs and influenced my classmates like almost the whole class love their group. Bet most of the kpop fans now doesn't know them. They are unique and doesn't need any sexy and fancy outfits for their bop songs.

he also directed irene and seulgi’s monster special stage!
Fun fact: They all look short, but the tallest members are 165cm (5'5) tall lol and the shortest 160cm (5'3)
I always thought that they were 5'1 to 5'3 lol
I've met all of them. The twins are 5'2 and Soyul prolly 5'1 tops lol. They are very very short. Ellin and Geummi are maybe ~5'4.
that's still pretty short tho lol
@@snoozefighting Yeah the short girls want to be tall and the tall girls want to be short. Hani of EXID was caught shaving cm of her height to seem cuter. Izone Yujin and WonYoung argued who was taller and Won Young lost being the tallest. Then Nako insisted she was 150 cm after stretching her growth plates she was measured at 149.9 cm and she was devastated.
The only time I saw them in real life they looked kinda 'small', especially up close. But they were on a stage and I was below so I couldn't really judge their height.
This was my very first kpop group I got into!!
Wow, that is surprising actually haha
My first too. Later I followed Oh My Girl and Elris, but Crayon Pop is my ultimate group.
The first group that I ever loved, listening 1234 makes me cry.
They are my first kpop group, and also the only one.
Forgot to talk about the sub unit Strawberry Milk consisting of the twins in Crayon Pop
ok but THANK YOU for making a video about them. they deserved a lot more!!!
This is a really good video about crayon pop and I learned a ton about them. Just wanna throw out that their song 'Lonely Christmas' was a bop also because the song was not featured here.
10:33 Fun fact-
The music video for uh-ee was acully charting pretty high that year it was relesed the MUSIC VIDEO or MV for Uh-ee was relesed on march 21 2014 the song did pretty fine but however in that same year the MUSIC VIDEO or MV for Uh-ee got removed from korea tv or korean youtube and the reason it got deleted? the reason why it got removed from korea was because in the lyrics they used a Japanese word in the lyrics that could have translated to something else along with being banned with BLACKPINK BOOMBYAH (for using mature lyrics and mentioning the brand wine o' henny) and EXO LOTTO (for using the brand name lotto in the title) but is still avalible anywhere exept korea
Crayon Pop will always have a place in my heart. Pop! Pop! Keu Re Yong Pop!
even if you havent listened to their music before, their song(s) sound so familiar and sound like you’ve been binge listening to them for 2 days straight
Popjhussi are the most innocent and lovely fans in kpop and still support their girls, they're seriously lovely and crayonpop was the most enjoyable and wholesome fandom I've ever been in ❤❤❤❤❤
FINALLY!!!! I’ve been commenting and waiting for this video. Thank you so much for making it! Crayon Pop was the best ❤️😭
I feel like shindong always appreciates rookies from small companies and appreciates them I remember him doing the same for bts
There’s also a change in CEO, one of the reason Crayon Pop didn’t renew their contract, according to Way
Notice how every group or person is starting being sucessful many would start to do and find anything so that they would drag them down.
Way has the best youtube channel now
I ulted Crayon Pop. I still know their fanchants and support all the members. They were such a fun group and I recommend watching Crayon Pop TV, they are hilarious 😭
evolution pop is my most played album. their songs still are so good
Man I was there for Bar Bar Bar 😭 i miss them so much, what a time that was. Their songs Saturday Night and Dancing Queen SLAP as well check them out!!
I will forever remember them. I was in elementary school and everyone in my school knew this song
Bruh I remember crayon pop so much lmao.
Oh yeah! Anyone remember Uh-Ee. One of my favorite songs from them.
JenJennieKimiee that was the first album I bought from a K-POP artist
@ISVVC BALLIOL Noice. I only have lightsticks and a BTS shirt. I don’t have any albums
Their dance routine to "Bing Bing" was so mindblowngly impressive to me back then
And where’s serang?
FM and dancing queen are my jam. still. listen to them today.
I miss Crayon Pop! I love this group so much, I'm happy I was able to get their autographs on an album
I was literally just thinking “I wish he made a crayon pop one” cause yesterday I searched to see if you did haha. You read my mind
Crayon Pop and most of them are in their 20s early 30s, I always thought "Crayon Pop" was because they looked like kids.
Crayon pop was the group that introduced me to korea and kpop, I was just a kid when I saw them. They reminded me of the wiggles with the bar bar bar song, and I loved so many of their songs like dancing queen. I miss their quirky songs
Army: "BTS paved the waaaay"
Blink: "BP World Dominatioon"
Crayon Pop: "Hold my helmet kiiids" :x
Signatures helmet lmao 😂😂😂 tbh they really deserves with this achievement
1st generation of kpop is what actually paved the way but some people aren’t ready for that conversation
I'm army and blink but I get so angry when fans say such stuff. Sure they're inspiration, but 1 and mostly 2 gen paved the way. Fight me, I don't regret saying this.
But its true that bts paved the way tho
international means, no one dared until bts entered in charts...
ofc 1st gen made it easy for next gen to be successful but it's still a rough and difficult path until BTS paved it.
@@ben-nx1qb you can't pave a path that's already paved.
I LOVE them so much and still listen to their music on the regular.
I'd love to see your take on What Happened to Super Junior! So much has happened to them LOL
Wow they really had such a unique concept. I’d love to see that again now. It’d be so refreshing
One of my all time favourite groups.
crayon pop introduced me to kpop! i miss them so much ;; i remember when their collab w elsword dropped.. it was incredible
we stan queens!
oh my gosh! i just got notice by nathan 🥺
@@whoisboba4 congratulations boo
Thank you for making this video! Very informative. I miss them as an entertaining group. I definitely enjoyed their songs, and still do!
Support Crayon pops individual channels, music and lives. They're such sweet girls. Support JamJam
I was introduced to Crayon Pop in school as a child. Never forgotten the " I don't want to stick at home now"
Still love Crayon Pop. They are my morning alarm. Their albums never get old.
Crayon Pop is a korean jewel, all of their songs filled my entire college time. It was sad to hear that they weren't paid enough. It's soothing to hear that gummi recently got married. There are many kpop group broke up and got really messy on their lives.
I learned about them from, of all places, The Economist magazine back around 2012 or 2013. I liked every song they released.
Yessss. Once I saw this video in my feed I was like "YES, let's talk about it."
aaa i love crayon pop! they were so weird and catchy and fun. i miss their work but i'm glad they've all found happiness and success in their new ventures. that's most important.
also go watch way's youtube channel wayland! she tells all kinds of stories about her life as an idol, some of them really insightful and some that are funny, like how their legs became so muscular after promoting the bar bar bar dance they looked like horses. her and her sister choa released a new song last year too, "my universe."
I found Crayon Pop a boy 4 years ago and fell in love instantly !! K-pop is very rare in the U.K. thanks to you tube, it’s the only way !! I feel that with the correct management Crayons could have conquered the world the way they did my heart !! 😍😍😍
When whole stadium packed with baseball fans singing their song.. For me they already reached the greatest achievement.
i remember knowing them before bar bar bar & loved dancing queen so much & never knew how hard they worked ?? omg. they're such hard workers !!
It's too bad they weren't better managed and financed but then again, they probably wouldn't be CRAYON POP if they were. lol
I miss them so much! Great video!
I loved bar bar bar I played it and still play it a lot. I remember when they came to Australia I begged my boss to give me a day off work but it didn’t happen... this was when I was discovering kpop
I always love these group stories. The struggle they had to go through and the achievements they made is always amazing to see.
thats why they have this T-ARA vibe in them because they are inspired by T-ARA i love them both very much i discover them 2 weeks ago and i love Crayon pop very much they're song is a bop after bop like T-ARA they are like baby T-ARA sister. Im a big T-ARA fan so im proud.i love crayon pop.
I love your videos but during quarantine they're giving me so much life
I've always thought each member of Crayon Pop was an underrated visual💖 They are all so pretty!
I always knew there was some type of connection with T ara, i just did'nt know what it was🙄
THEY ARE THE FIRST K POP BAND IK AND WAS A FAN OF ❤️❤️🔥🔥💯. MISS THEM ALOT ... SARANGHEEEYOO ❣️😚
Crayon pop concept is everything i need now:")
one thing i absolutely love about them is their relationship, such a strong bond
“They agreed and packed their helmets”
I- 😂 💀
i miss crayon pop, i used to listen to them alot when they debuted bc i was only around six or smth then,, i felt like i could relate with their songs. its a shame they couldn't have lasted longer
I loved Crayon Pop. They were so underrated, but they were one of the few groups, where I'd listen to their entire album. Their songs have the most nostalgic melodies. I think Crayon Pop and f(x) had the best B sides of this generation. 🤗
Even 7 years later 'Bar Bar Bar' is such a bop!
they were one of the first groups that I started to follow.
They are one of my favorite gg before. I remember listening to their songs and influenced my classmates like almost the whole class love their group. Bet most of the kpop fans now doesn't know them. They are unique and doesn't need any sexy and fancy outfits for their bop songs.
I really miss them! They had a great potential and unique charm
Thank you! Love Crayon Pop. Nostalgia!!!
Their non sexy but still great looking and goofy fun style is just the best. Nevermind the awesome music. My favorite kpop group by a mile.
I wondered what happened to them.
Thanks for this.
Aww that was cute story of how they started. Kinda sad where they are at now.
9:59 imagine being crayon pop and wearing tracksuits and capes next to people in suits
best. trendsetters. ever
