Chesham Classic Bus Running Day 2024

The Fourth event of 2024
The 35th Running Day held by the Amersham & District Motorbus Society in the Chesham and Amersham areas. We've moved on a little this year - as well as our regular supporters bringing their Leyland Nationals along, modern vehicles in some people's eyes despite being nearly fifty years old, one of the participating vehicles today will have a much more modern feel to it. Joining us, from the current day Carousel fleet will be one of the recently refurbished Enviro 400 MMC vehicles dedicated to the Flight-line 102 service which operates between High Wycombe and Heathrow Airport. For those of you a little alarmed at this influx of "modern" vehicles, rest assured there will be plenty of 1950s and 1960s heritage still to enjoy but do bear in mind that back in the day many people were purchasing 20 year old RFs and RTs for preservation - so, everything is relative! It's a poignant thought though, that those who can remember seeing country-area Routemaster, RT and RF type buses (and even the AEC Merlin and Swift types introduced from 1968 onwards) in regular service are probably at least now in their late 50s/early 60s, thus inevitably, the world has moved on and the bus preservation world with it!
