  • Peter Vaughn has presented this talk to one of our other groups before, but the recording was not good enough to share. This version was presented to the Sutherland group plus friends from BirdLife Australia and Arboriculture Australia in November 2021.
In this introduction to mistletoes, Peter tells us all about this seldom seen, mis-understood and under-appreciated group of plants, which turn out to be vital to a healthy ecosystem. He doesn't believe that they do kill trees, but are actually a host plant for many insects and butterflies and for birds further up the food chain.
He gives growing tips on how to harvest and 'plant' seeds so you can grow these in your own garden.

Great presentation Peter, thank you so very much. I would love to see you do a talk at the BGANZ congress next year in Melbourne.

Great presentation, information and narration Peter. The red-wings are a regular visitors out west to feed on wattle seed too. They like the green seed, particularly A. deanei. Not sure if this is an indicator for edible seed for humans. I presume the australian ringneck is also a destructive feeder.
