Snowpiercer Movie vs TV Show: 5 Major Differences Explained
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 сен 2024
- Everyone loved Snowpiercer, the wacky 2013 film from director Bong Joon Ho and starring Chris Evans. So great in fact that TNT decided to turn it into a 10 episode series with Daveed Diggs and Jennifer Connelly. So you're probably asking yourself: What are the differences are between the movie and show? Well TV Guide's Senior Editor Tim Surette laid himself on the train tracks and re-watched the movie, then all 10 episodes of the show, to see how far off the rails TNT's iteration goes. Snowpiercer premieres Sunday, May 17th at 9pm EST on TNT.

Murder on The Polar Express
😂😂😂 Yes it is 🤔
There's even a part where they sing lol
Hahaha
You figured out the big secret
Omg lol
I loved the film but I am seriously hooked on this show. Watch the show and make your own minds up folks.
I loved the series too ⭐️
I personally love the film better. Dont get me wrong, the series is good too, but its just some normal action series with plently of clichès. Almost everything is predictable in it.
@@rescune4021 It's definitely not predictable. There were so many surprises throughout, especially in the last episode. I'll give you on huge example early on too. We all thought the murder investigation was going to consume the whole first series, yet we found out the killer early on and the main plot shifted. Keeping people in the drawers and killing Josie were huge surprises too.
@@lucylamazares9192 killing josie wasn't a big surprise. Many movies have loved ones dying. Fans of snowpiercer already knew there are more than one train, and the movie its based off of the comics so most of us already saw that coming pretty early tbh. The film does have better plot twists thought, but sadly there are some clichès in it.
@@rescune4021 Killing Josie was a huge surprise. We all thought she would be leading the revolution. We also thought she would give away the truth while she was being tortured. Plus everyone thought that Sean Bean's character was dead. There were gifs and RUclips clips about how his characters always die and this time he was killed off before he even made an appearance. So that the ending was not obvious at all, since everyone thought he was dead.
I really enjoyed the tv show, they were able to develop a lot more characters for us to care or hate. That ending! Loved it, can't wait to see what craziness comes in season two. And yes, I really love the movie as well.
Bong Joo-Ho didn't create Snowpeicer. The film and show are adaptions of a French comic book series.
But Bong created many things in the film...The film is almost diffrent from comic book series and show follows the film, not comic books series. For example, Wilford is Bong's original character. Like Oldboy(2013) followed Oldboy(2003), not japanese mangga.
@HAYAO LEONE bs whilst the snowpiercer train was taken from the comic nearly every other part of the film is different. for eg in the comic there is a theme of ecology as instead there is classism, a disease takes out everyone but the protagonist in the book but no such thing happens in the movie
I actually like tv version better.
Same to Valerian project French comic Book
빛빛 The TV show is actually equally based on the books and the movie. For example, the idea of multiple Snowpiercers is from the book, or that scene of the old man killing himself at his birthday. I think all 3 versions are a nice adaptation and should be considered seperately.
I loved the tv adaptation. Whole different feel indeed but it kinda works. I was truly gripped. It doesn’t have the same nature because it’s not the same story and I doubt it’ll end up being the same timeline. You have to go into the series expecting something different. Admittedly I too was incredibly puzzled by the murder mystery (who wasn’t), however it did give a decent reason and explanation for why most of what took place, took place. As ever the science and the maths of the idea of the train was awful (better than the movie though) but all forgiven in those last 3 episodes. Which had quite possibly the most dramatic twist possible for the scenario.
It you're concerned about the idea of a train you're missing the point
@@markholmes6771 In what way? To be honest i have forgotten my mindset writing this and forgot i had written this until i got a notification that you’d responded.
It's about the story could be set on a ship, shelter or whatever.
@@markholmes6771 oh fair enough. I agree with the fact it is about the story. But at the end of the day, it is set on a train. As a complete science nerd it just makes me happy when science is accurate. To be honest the fact that it is on a train personally adds to it for me. I am personally a big fan of world building which, if it weren’t for the train, wouldn’t be nearly as exciting for me otherwise. I particularly think the train aspect is mostly thought out well with regards to casting in season 2. Mr Wilford is shown as a Yorkshireman which are stereotypically know for their industrial history heavily linked with trains and engineering. Clearly further prompting the relevance of the fact that the vessel is in fact a train.
Besides i do believe that it does matter that it’s a train. The physical dynamic of the vessel plays heavily into the story. I ship or shelter wouldn’t have many of the issues they face. Of course general engineering issues and class differences would occur. However i think the geographical layout of the train makes a huge difference to the story. Especially considering no other vessel would have a similar layout. For instance escape from the tail is difficult as there is only one way out (and can easily be bottlenecked for instance). Due to this certain aspects of the fact that it is centred around being a train really do matter.
So to conclude my point, I believe there are multiple ways of looking at Snowpiercer. From different combinations of both world building and storyline, people such as ourselves will take different things to be important. I personally love the world building accompanied by the storyline and complimented by the casting. Seemingly you prefer the Storyline which is supported by the world building. I think it’s safe to say that we all take different aspects as important.
Edit: I take world building to be specific features and incidents that aren’t directly related to the storyline but assist in a greater understanding of the scenario at hand. (For instance: scientific basis; logistics; non essential background knowledge; etc...)
@@marcmq Very well put m8 👏🏽
How did you watch all 10 episodes if the show is not even half way through yet? Sounds made up to me.

Review pre-release, mayhaps
I agrer
@@radicallarrythemailman8269 doubt a random reviewer from yt would get a pre release
It’s only on episode 7...
First: I personally thought the first episode was amazing
Second: Snowpeircer was based off of a french comic series called "Le Transperceneige"
Third: Only the first episode has aired and episode 8-10 don't have a title to yet.
Fourth: Even if you got the episodes early why is it a good idea to spoil them?
I know right but do you think this a prequel I mean I don’t episode 1 doesn’t look like it
Apparently in other countries it's a Netflix series
first in US it's a tv series from TNT not a netflix series
second he just compare the series with the movie. The movie was released back in 2013 and bongjunho is the director he even have some korean actors played in the movie and ofc the movie become fave to a lot of people that's why he's comparing the movie with the series now.
third it's right that snowpiercer based on a french comic book but in the 2013's movie, bongjunho made a lot of changes and doing it his style that's why it's only the idea of snowpiercer that come from the comic, not the entire movie nor series even Winford is a character that is made by bong himself, and this series are refer to the 2013 movie with ofc some changes to ... even bong get credited as a producer in the series
He just stated that the series lack of bong touch even when they credited them and that the series is inspired by the 2013 movie while the 2013 movie have the concept from the france comic book with a lot of changes
In my country it's a series on Netflix (Belgium)
Wait are all episodes available?
I don’t get why you hate on it so much. The show is good. You probably hated the show before you saw the trailer
Given his reaction to the alleged Parasite TV Series it's probably like you say
It's unfair to make comparison between a fast pace movie and a TV show. Just suck it up!
Well, it certainly did suck.
I enjoyed the movie, and was really looking forward to the series, but it’s just been a disappointment.
I don’t mind how they’ve made such changes, as I really didn’t want Bong’s movie spread over 10 episodes, with minimal changes.
The series just isn’t very good, and the Murder mystery just makes it feel like this was a script to a completely different property, which was then rewritten to be a Snowpiercer series.
@@CorbCorbin Are you the snowpiercer of the snowpiercer in this comment section?
@@CorbCorbin Bro u just read my mind. The movie is way better. The netlix adaptation made is more for kids, made it less scary. The ending of the movie is amazing.
interesting you use the word trust then tell me you've watched all 10 episodes how is this possible if every episode has a date for release ??? can you point me to where i can watch all of the show by all means please share your dirty little secrets
I agree
They’re called screeners. A studio will send out blu rays, or give a code to stream the episodes, prior to release, so the person can watch and make a review. Same as with films.
How did you watch all 10 episodes already?
Exactly what i thought aswell. I instantly went to check if they were out elsewhere. They arnt. He lied.
loster man he knew first half was murder mystery... he was right. And this is a few weeks old
Ben Q He could have read trailers on IMDb or elsewhere
so basically you should just keep rewatching the movie since you wanted the thing to be exactly the same
I think you don't no that the snowpiercer is a NOVEL and it has a different characters with different stories!!!!!!!!!
Maybe it's because I watched the show first, but I thought it was a whole lot better than the movie
I watched the movie first and also think the tv show is better
How can you miss the class theme running the entire series? The murder mystery is just a plot device so the audience get to explore the train and its society through the audience surrogate. I'm only halfway through the series and I haven't seen the film but I can see were they've placed an earlier version of Tilda Swinsons character all be it with a different name (Ruth Wardell).
Dude did you even watch the show? Like even five minutes of it?
Well, the tv show has Simon from the Walking Dead playing a big part in season 2. Plus, I was really curious to see if this show would follow the events of the Revolt of the Seven or the McGregor Riot, but I’m satisfied with what I got. The movie Snowpiercer, like Ghostbusters, is lightening in a bottle. You will NEVER get anything like it.
You mean Pike? Is that where I've seen the actor before? 😅
The movie had a darker, more sinister, borderline mentally insane feel. The show is very much sane oppression. Both very different.
Hmmm.... a murder on a train, have I heard that plot before...(murder on the orient express)
Am I the only one who just wants to watch the film whenever i start watching this show.
I love the movie but I think I love the show more!
If a show is well-acted and has good character development, it can pretty much take you anywhere and people will appreciate it. I haven't seen the movie, but Snowpiercer the show is a winner because the acting is excellent and the characters are written in a really intriguing way. Love it... can't wait for season 2.
I like the series and now with the twist on the horizon and the revolution on horizon is getting better
wait how did you get 10 episodes that quickly.
He hasn't watched all 10 episodes. He's trolling you duh
Motherfarka
I was watching the first episode and I cant help but compare it to Bong Joon Ho's masterful work. Everything just feels off.
Movie was to rushed and never gave each car a character in depth.
kaleb Gonzales Not really but ok
kaleb Gonzales I agree. It doesn’t work for me at this age. The only thing that still gets to me r the kids at the end😲
Panquake 321 dude, almost all cars was a killing zone. They never though or used each environment much.
The show never have the feels of a movie... Maybe because it's a fkn show?
so you're saying its impossible to have a gritty feel, and action scenes that look good? and characters who are badass rather than dull, because it is a show? because that's what hes arguing you simp.
They should make a sequel to snowpiercer called Icesniper, it should take place 37 years after snowpiercer, and it should have a fallout feel but with ice, and different clans are having a war, and it should also embrace inuit culture.
After 3 episodes I give the series a big B+ I like the series. If you disregard the movie, which takes place 10+ years after the series anyway, and enjoy it as a stand-alone series, it’s a well made, well written and well acted show. Oh, and watch it without commercials (iTunes) and it’s even better.
How have you watched all 10 episodes when there’s only 2 have been released ?
Do tell?
I want to know that also.
Honestly I didn't like the movie was just not for me. I almost didn't watch the series because of that, thankfully my brother convinced me and I'm so happy I watched it! I absolutely loved it, but if you go in to this show expecting a longer version of the movie you will be very disappointed.
Hopefully you change your mind on the movie. A Masterpiece is a Masterpiece whether you like it or not!!
wait.. ur saying all 10 episodes are already out for TV? where?? as of june 22 iv seen only up to episode 6 ... where are the other eps??
Jesus Christ! Do none of you doubting he’s watched it all really not know how screeners work?
How do you think any critic gives spoiler free reviews before a movie is released?
It’s the same thing with television. They either give physical copies, or a code to stream the show, so the critic can watch them review said property.
They might not have given him all 10 at once, as it could e been done 5 episodes at a time, or 3, or 2...etc.
Since the show is a prequel, does the Tailies revolution get mentioned at all in the 2013 film? I know they'd had failed attempts before, but I'm just wondering if the one led by Layton is one of them or if this prequel is not part of the movie cannon and will simply follow it's own storyline? Because if that's not the case, then we know Layton and crew are already bound to fail.
How were you able to watch all 10 episodes early?
that is exactly why is on my mind.
He full of shit.
It's on Netflix in its entirety in other countries
@@therealmaxprophet As of today, NOT TRUE
@@jacknavarro1210 Right now it is.
@@Garlly34 i'm in Australia, there's only 2 eps on Netflix
I have a very diferent opinion on their diference, I think they greatly manage to turn the plot and flow of the story in a very very intersting way. The serie and the movie are diferent, but wether you like one or another or both is up to you.
Another difference between TV show and movie: In the series the Earth is much, much colder than in the movie, with temps as low as -122 degrees C. That's much too low for even polar bears to survive. Presumably the justification is that all of Earth's so-called "greenhouse gasses" would freeze out of the atmosphere (water at 0, CO2 at -78 degrees C) , but even that's not enough to produce such a low temperature without also blocking a lot of sunlight.
I like both. I'm surprised I liked the show.
Imma defend the series because it really is its own thing, having seen the netflix show BEFORE the movie i can definitely see why the differences would make people salty but even though they've gone with the murder mystery its definitely binge-worthy but they absolutely should NOT stretch it to more than 3-5 seasons for it to still have the same impact
I had to click like after that 'Ticket to Ride' reference. Bravo.
Word: Frezes over
Penguins and Polar bears: Its free realestate
Interesting, thank you!
From watching the trailer of the series, it looked like they basically just remade famous scenes from the movie with different characters. It felt kind of like déjà vu gone wrong.
I love the movie but I love the show as well. Watch it and make up your own mind.
Wonka-piercer RUclips it
Watching it is never the same after that
@@Lordinos10 I only watched the movie because of that video lol
I never got ppl who get cheesed at spin offs. Like literally no one if forcing you to whatch it
Season 2 has cast Sean Bean as Mr. Wilford.
Which probably means he won't last by the finale

I'm watching as a fan of Daveed Diggs
How did you watch all 10 episodes of they haven’t released it yet?
Tbh i like the movie more than the series. The series was a mess, lots of things didnt make sense and a lot of characters that had so much potential just disappeared. It also had so many cliches and it doesnt really portray our society as well as the movie. Its a straight up rich vs poor thing but the movie goes deeper than that.
I like tv series snowpiercer story but I like movie snowpiercer train design
well, the movie was a big departure from the comic, so it makes sense that the TV show is a big departure from the movie.
The second I saw Curtis’s character replacement making a typical fucking Hollywood style speech I wasn’t interested.. the kinda reluctant hero felt far more realistic (yeah I know it’s scifi but sci-fi needs realistic central characters)
Maybe the snowpiercer in the tv series is icebreaker ?
Watch it, before you judge. The marketing and image truly doesnt match with how good actually the series is. Even though it starts with a murder mystery, which is basically done to show you around the whole train, and everyone important in it. Cause now we have basically seen the whole train in the beginning of the series, a new battle and conflict opens up right after. And I promise, that the murder mystery part is interesting to watch. Cause the longer you watch it, and the more you watch it, you begin to realise how it was connected with the rest of the series. Cause the fact that there is a murder mystery storyline in it, its meaning to the story is basically work as an opening for the rebellion that wakes up again during the first few episodes. Its some sort of a sideline scenario. It is used by the characters all in their own way.
And again, to show you around the train and its people. Which is done great in my opinion. There really is nothing to hate on this series that is reasonable. Cause everything that you basically heavily voted down on, is just very, very personal on only you. And for the people that say its predictable cause of its cliche;s, It's definitely not predictable. There were so many surprises throughout, especially in the last episode. I'll give you on huge example early on too. We all thought the murder investigation was going to consume the whole first series, yet we found out the killer early on and the main plot shifted really quick.
A murder myst.... I can't even finish it without throwing up.
Damn tv guide. You guys did not transition to the internet very well. Get them views up.
I hated the movie. It was so one-dimensional: storm through the train, killing everyone in their path, until they reach the engine. Boring. I enjoy the multiple plots of the TV show, and that has helped the story immensely.
People keep saying the tv show is not like the movie at all. Yeah probably because it’s a reboot
crazy to me that some people think the movie is even subpar, the show with its time advantage goes so much more in depth with everything from the train to the characters to the social class standards and etc... the movie is a ridiculously dry adaptation of the comics and the tv show as far as I'm concerned has done the originals more justice by a mile plus. loved the vid hope to see a season 2 review eventually!
Train in the series is one of 4 trains running the rail (late spoiler alert!!!) ant most definitely not the same as the one in the Film therefore no Mr. W onboard ;)
I love both because it's all fiction anyways. As long as there is good story telling and opens the minds and is creative.
Subscribed after the line "coz network execs.. love.. ruining the things we love"
*I felt that*
This intro snatched my attention omg
I was disappointed that the TV version failed to bring greater reimagining. Why is the front of the train such a bacchanal, as if there is endless booze and party clothes, dry cleaning services, etc.? Reimagining the forward cars could have been key to a unique and powerful TV Snowpiercer.
TV remakes and adaptations are so often cheap prom dress knock-offs.
Gilliam is the best character in the movie
I thought the train was trying to stay in daylight because the night would be too cold. At least that would make some sense. But I find out it has to keep moving because of reasons? I haven't seen the movie yet.
I gather this made-up "engine" can only generate power if it's moving. Rather than chance avalanches, chasms, damaged tracks, and glaciers, however, I would expect the designer(s) to run the thing on an oval track or even a giant hamster wheel or treadmill. The generated power can be fed via tether to a bunker(s) or tunnel system that the survivors can enlarge as time goes by. In fact you'd probably want multiple engines so one can take over when another is undergoing maintenance.
Only thing I liked about the Netflix Snow-piercer is Jennifer Connelly. She is absolutely beautiful.
What can, I say loved the movie and with the "Snow-Piercer" title TNT got me to watch live TV. However, you are correct it is completely different from the movie So, I am treating this as a totally different work of science fiction. Only time will tell us if, it will be a good or bad TV show. Noticed right away that some of its themes were made more soft for families when, passengers said the lost of their arms was because of fighting with the guards. Not that they were needed for food to keep passengers alive as in the movie. In addition, if the writers are wise they will also change the recipe for the food bars baked daily for those living in the rear cars (smile...smile).
Yea I just take it as maybe an alternate universe. Bcuz by the end of the first episode u realize its completely different
@@therealmaxprophet in the original source material there were other trains, notably a train called the Icebreaker, so possibly they could still be in the same universe since in the movie the head compartment was ran by Mr Wilford himself and in the series Jennifer Connelly conducts the train from front as Mr Wilford
0.40 , Pirasite already has an Anime
I personally like the tv series better than the movie. And I loved the movie.
I feel like both the show and the movie are good for very different reasons
I’m just happy too have the show
In my honest opinion the Tv show makes more sense to me and is better executed than the movie.
maybe they should have kept the origional characters and stuff just make it before 17 years. you would hae to get someone to take john herts place because he sadly died. we will always miss u war doctor.
Dude i love this tv show
I really wish they just began the show where the movie left off.
I actually like the deviation they took
Gonna give this a try, but I still think TNT peaked at Rizzoli and Isles.
He said he watched all 10 episodes but there's only 8 out right now
Are all 10 episodes out?
Well. Didn't expect nothing from the show, and right now is climbing to the top 10 of my favourites. Just saying. We'll see if it gets there.
I liked falling skies 😭
I like this show. And this show isn't a prequel to the movie, it's a different reality and has no relations to the movie, only to the original French comic source.
isnt the show a reboot? i mean it's kinda pointless to diffirentiate the timelines when they ain't connected
I... I... I actually like the show... this is a good fresh show... OMG
The movie was very strange. It was good but didn't build the characters or the world in a way that the audience could really care much about. The TV show really builds characters with some depth and humanity and that makes it more accessible to the viewer. The show is great but in a very different way. Big fans of the movie might not like the show, but I really enjoy the show and wasn't really a huge fan of the film.
I saw a comment on another video saying that in the graphic novel there's multiple trains
As far as I'm aware theres at least one more called Icebreaker.
Yeah , I took your advice and watched movie five Times in row and it was worth it btw
The TNT show is much better than the movie. I consider it more realistic and more elaborate.
yes but with the films story the winter lasts for 10 more years and Sean Bean is still alive... therefore to keep the main vilain intact, the show's characters will end up in failure
The show is not a prequel. It's an entirely different beast from the movie.
Everyone thought it was a reboot but no its not since s2 big alice connected to snowpiercer which wilford is alive but rly wants to get his train back
Also he was a damn sociopath for manipulating his crew to suicide
I dont understand why they took this approach. i'd be more interested with a show about the politics before the big freeze and how that was decided upon, while simultaneously, the Train guy is building his masterpiece. Who gives a damn about 7 years into it when you know theyre never going to be liberated or free? yuck
Ok, but how does the show compare to the graphic novel??
I actually like tv version better.
its a prequel not a remake, therefore you cant compare them
Saw the film.wasn't interested in watching the show at first.then I saw the first episode and then hinged watched it in about 3 days
The movie was ass💀 it disturbed me so much, but I absolutely love the show!
that's a stupid reason to think something's bad
The show is a lot better then the movie
Last 3 episodes where the best in the series ngl
