bro just got right into it, no intro, no talking, no nothin. I like it
The morning star was typically a peasant's club on steroids... force multipliers with armor piercing potential. Something for the "little guy" to punch above his weight against armored opponents. Over time it was re-imagined and adopted by the military-proper; the ones you see in museums (and in this video) are examples of the design taken to its limits.
It's primary use was to rip the plate armour off an opponent.
The little spikes dig into the armour and the inertia of the club part rips the armour plate off its leather bindings.
It was good against helmets too, to rip the helmet off the head or rotate it with great force.
Hell yeah! History lesson and a show!
Spikes when fighting plate are mostly to prevent glancing blows
They rarely pierced plate
However anything less than plate or brigandine the other guy would have some nasty new orfices
@@nean9894 yeah glancing blows the mace slips and doesnt impart the kinetic energy into the target.
With the spikes, the mace can grip the armour plate and rip it off if the blow has any sideways momentum, or if it is a very accurate blow it is like you said.
@@wizrom3046 Doesn't sound realistic to me. Lets say a bit of armor does come off and gets stuck onto the spike, now your weapon is clumsy thus making you an easy target or the armor stays but your weapon is stuck. The spikes are there for something else completely i imagine.
Besides i think you're greatly underestimating the construction of medieval armor, rarely was it only straps. Full plate armor was often shut completely around the limb, chest, etc. with steel hinges, since you don't want just that to happen because its a lot of hard work to make it and expensive.
Finally some who knows what a morning star is.
Yes I knows the morning star in game of Shadow fight 2........😂🎉
Isn't Jesus the Bright Morning Star? I wonder how intimidating and deadly He would look descending from Heaven like a valkyrie
For the spikes I would recommend you try and get soil penetrometer probe tips. The weld onto the bolt may be strong, but that would potentially be a weak point due to the inability to get the weld all the way to the middle of the bolt.
No test? Oh, Come ON!
I know...I was hoping for some things to get smashed.
Very disappointed. I wanted to see it up against a cinder block.
Great job, now a video of a test.
All that engineering glued onto a broom handle.
😂😂😂 ... 👍🏻
A metal handle would destroy your joints
I had the exact same thought. 😢
You absolutely need something to dampen the vibrations lol
@@wills5482 I think he meant that other type of wood with better hardness would be preferable. Like oak of yew.
I don't even have enough HP to endure 1 hit of this legendary morning star :D
Truly a "Substantial" build Koss! Planning, cutting grinding, turning, drilling, tapping and welding all those pieces is as impressive as the finished product. Great Welding too! Love the leather wrapping and end cap. Like the Hulk says; "Smash"! Another beautiful piece for your record book, Koss. Thanks for always "Bringing It" to us!!
Morning Star is such a weird name. One good whack with that thing and it's Good Night Forever!
I understand the joke, but if you're serious about the name: it's most likely derived from the shape and appearance of it, looking like the morning sun, or star, or something similar
@@frostburn2982 Thanks for the well researched serious answer. I learned so much.
"I'm gonna beat some sense into you!"
"But, please, not with the morning star, or I won't be able to see the evening star."
Unexpectedly! But as always cool and professionally done! fantastically!👏
Thank you so much 😀
The next revenge movie better have a twenty two minute montage of the protagonist making a Morning Star.
Thank you for not including a "demo reel" at the end. Melons of the World salute you!
Beautiful, as always.
I actually planned to conduct a similar test, but unfortunately (or fortunately for melons), I ran out of time =)
Aww, you made a cute little baby rattle. You just forgot to put the bell inside for the noise. At least it was a quick easy project!
As someone studying to become a welder, I have to commend your technique and fitment on this project. Preem and profesh there, Koss!
His actual welding is shit but his fab skills are great
@@patrickroberts7847 Hey, if you're gonna grind it flush, who cares if it looks ugly initially?
@@erinfinn2273 just the fact that his actually beveled the parts for weld penetration shows he's a far more intelligent welder than some people
@@bingledorf Exactly!
Pretty nice "Thumper" Sir. As an ex machinist myself, it was fun trying to anticipate your process as you went along.
That thing is badass
At this point, hardening seems like overkill. But I love it 😂❤
Nice morningstar. I dunno what type of wood he used, but if it's ever gonna get used, I hope it can withstand the force of the blow.
Amazing work, dude! It looks incredible! 😮
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
That's a lot of work a work of art by a true craftsman
Нравится смотреть подобные видео, крутая работа💪💪💪
такую булаву да в руки богатыря )) отличная работа!!! 👍
Very Cool and Very Bad Ass!!!
Thanks for sharing.
Watching this video made me realize that I need more DIY projects in my life... and possibly some protective gear! Thanks for the laughs and the awesome tutorial!
Very nice, very satisfying. I have a nice custom made all metal mace that was a gift for a birthday. Love a good mace. Simple as.
Hey, it’s one of our favorite weapons smith!
The shape is very nice it's a "morning star" variety of the bludgeon. Well done
Wow that's totally awesome 🤙😺
Beautiful building, what peoduct do you use to make the metal black?
look up cold bluing
Good job with the head construction. Interesting spike design. the bicolor handle looks so nice!
Very Impressive I love the way you made it look the design it’s self is nice and honestly I don’t really see anything wrong with it honestly if I was you I would never sell it I would hang it on my wall :D
Nice show toy. A lot work in that 1.
that looks like the longest project youve made! very cool 👌
Amazing Craftsmanship 👍🏻👍🏽👍🇬🇧🇬🇧
Very nice Angular Morning Star besides Evening Star from Tannhauser by Richard Wagner & Pilgrims Chorus. German opera
i cant even imagine how much the equipment used in this vid costs!!!!! Awesome video!
Excellent work, thank you for sharing! From the practical point of view, the wooden handle (oak?) might be a weak link and I would also suggest another screw across it to secure to the head. Please, don't mind my engineering critique. 🙂
Your welds are looking fine dude. Way more better than mine. 😅
Looking forward to the next video 😊😊
This is one of those things that only comes out when things have gone poorly for some time.
Hello Koss beautifully done good job
nice work
Two thumbs way up 👍👍
good job!😊😊👍
It is Mr. Jan Žižka weapon !
Good job 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That thing's a beauty!!! EXcellent job Mr. Koss 👏👏👏. Love it! And a valiant attempt at getting all the spikes into the furnace in one go there mate 😂😂😂. 😎
That is badass :)
Да уж УТРЕННЯЯ ЗВЕЗДА,такой по хребту получить и звёзды наверное увидишь.
You’re going to put someone’s eye out with that
So cool. Zombie killer if I ever saw one.
Smashing Excellence Koss!
Amazing craftsmanship and detail on point!
btw, could I borrow it for a day?🤫...🤭
Thank You my friend for sharing the build of such a beautiful piece🤝 ☆Jay☆
Always an amazing job. Just curious, but would a thread lock glue help keep the spikes from dislodging?
Could maybe fill it halfway with ball bearings, to act as a dead-blow hammer?
Those look like about 1/2in steel plates for the head. Based on a few sledgehammers of about the same size as those plate stacks, that thing probably weighs close to 12-15lbs. Don't worry, it's a dead-blow enough without shot inside.
Качественная работа. Воронение стойкое? Если не секрет, что за оно?
Idealne na apokalipsę zombie.
Great video. Thank you for sharing. I sure wish you’d had used a metal handle.
First rate work at every point, but it seemed like a long-winded way round to get to where you wanted to be. Machining the head from solid would weigh more, but weight is not a problem in a morningstar until it is unmanageable. The spikes could surely be made in one piece (rather than welding them onto machined bolt heads), and "sweated" into the holes in the head.
thats a mace and the sun is the morning star. YW
Looks fourged. Nice larp piece
9/10 video, mildly disappointed that you didn’t smash anything with it
Slavic type of weapon certainly
I'M CALLING THE THE HOLLY POLIGON! Or Holy-Poli for abreviation.
Now you can smash some pumpkins,🎃
The most over-engineered morning star ever, haha.
I really don’t like the fact it’s a hollow but other than it looks pretty cool and aesthetically pleasing.
Make a mace that has the temperpedic logo that makes sweaky toy sounds when it hits something.
А если сделать больше граней? Или вообще шар? Будет круче
You forgot the wonderfulness of the blue locktight. Just because reasons
I was wondering how morning star would be produced with medival technology and i think the way to create it in order to be solid is to cast it, if you want spikes to be extra strong, you may forge them, plance in mould and cast the "head", so it traps and holds spikes, but not sure if spikes will stay quenched.
Круто и как всегда технологично👍. а чем воронение делалось?
Это лучший девайс для вечерней прогулки по городским окраинам. 😁👍🏻
Low poly morning star.
BadAss love the craftsmanship. What is the dimension of the pieces please.
Ah, yes, *"Knife* making" and *"Knife* overview"
This is a pretty weird looking knife
@@oliver3339 I know, right?
"MATHMATICAL!" Finn
no test vid because that single steel screw did not have the tolerance to survive the inertia of that impact?
D20 morning star
Какой вес вашего изделия ??
а я то думал, чо все говорят о каком-то Моршенштерне. Теперь я понимаю почему многим нравится
Looks dangerous 😊
Find a design for "Jan Zizka" monument
You should fill it three quarters with sand...
Do you not use inserts when facing off the steel? I see them when you do the lathe work but none in the facemill 1:21
What type of welding were you doing?? The weapon is sweet!!!
I guess we know the damage dice of this weapon
What is that blue liquid you used to blacken the metal?
How much does that weigh?
Come now! you are required by internet regulation to put that through a melon of some sort!
❤👍
😉😉
Since I don't have the equipment, skill to use the equipment nor the money to buy or get training on how to use the equipment, how much to make one and sell it?
Roll for attack.
Roll for bludgeoning.
Roll for piercing.
Repeat.
No gloves on the band saw!!!
Out of curiosity - how much does this mace weight?
YOU ARE GOING TO BRAZIL
Головоломка.
A very controversial idea 🧐, with a good implementation 👍🏻.
For zombie apocalypse 🤔❓
Это же каким надо быть Чудском, чтобы не показать эту булаву в деле.
Pretty damn nice work if I do say so my damn self
