I have the Philips PH805, the Sony WH 1000XM3 and the Microsoft Surface-2 headphones.
My take: Quality and finish I give it to the Surface 2, then Sony, then the Philips PH805 (differences are slight), Noise Cancellation: Sony and the Surface-2 are very good, the Philips PH805 did fine but not as good. Sound quality using the wire Aux I give it to Philips, then Sony, then a distance third place the Surface-2; Philips has wider stage, more clarity and more bass (sensitivity a tad lower), although I don't like too much Bass but to my ears Philips managed to have more of overall presence and more stereo sound that was pleasant to listen to. Mids and Highs, Philips then Sony, again the Surface-2 does not compare, it lacked details which the other headphones have. Comfort: to me all three are equally comfortable, I would put it maybe the Surface-2, then Sony then Philips; Sony and the Surface-2 have softer leather pads than the Philips, however the Sony's pads are half as thick as of the other two headphones. All three claim full over the ear cups, the biggest ear opening is the Surface-2 then the Sony and close third the Philips. Weight: Sony = 254 Grams, Philips = 281 Grams and Surface-2 = 295 Grams. Which one am I using? The Philips. I care more about sound quality and I think the Philips excels there. On my last flight trip, I took the Philips with me and it did pretty good job isolating me from the airplane noise and the music was very clear. I think it took out some 70% to 80% of the noise, there was a big difference between having them on and off, I don't know how people could take that plane noise, I guess after a while your ears get used to it.

Thank you for this comparison, I was considering both that Sony and the Phillips. I will go with the Phillips, which was already my preference. Sound quality is more important than ANC to me as well

Ty for the high quality review! Got them yesterday and just listened to this again but wearing these headphones 🎧. Sound is rly good as well as the ANC and AMBIENT SOUND. The only minus I would say (personally) is that after an hour my ears already hurt a little bit from wearing them. They are comfortable but I personally would want less pressure on my ears.
This review was fundamental for me buying those headphones, and I'm loving them. As others have already said, this is one of the best reviews I ever seen in youtube. Thank you!

I really love this style of review, it tells me what I want to know, which is, how well am I going to feel and enjoy the music, is it going to wow me and all that. I don't really care about which cables are in the box as much as I do about the sound, which is the hardest thing to convey without hearing them first hand.

@@Methsman Here is my one week thoughts on them. The selling point of them works good enough. In an engine room and out on the street where i tried them they reduce the noise by quite a margin.
Ergonomics are definitely good, the clamp is not overbearing and they secure good in your head. You can't use them to listen to music and walk around though. You need to be stationary. Built quality seems solid, comfort is high, cushions and buttons all seem high quality.
On the sound department they are not as good as a dedicated home headphone (say something like the ATH M50X which are about the same price) but they are good non the less. Excellent lows, bass and bass response, mids and vocals are a bit less pronounced and treble is good. I didn't hear any sort of interference in my use. Volume of the phones is low no matter how you connect them. HD audio can only be possible with the cable provided. No lag whatsoever in Bluetooth mode.
I recommend those easily, they do exactly what they set out to do without breaking the bank and without any serious compromise. I would suggest to have with you a portable DAC/AMP as it really transforms how the phones sound. I got an old Fiio E18 which drives these perfectly and you can hear the quality much better as it is really there.

People sleep on Philips. The fedelio series for their open back headphones are great headphones.

Great review - Was looking for months to find nice BT companion headphones to my HD598s. I went through many pairs - still keep them only because I was to lazy to send them back. I found some bad opinions on 805s - but watching you enjoying the music I felt this gotta be it. U got me out of my apartment with the video still paused near the end. Got them! - and feeling the first whispers of love(them). Great job and thanks.

Just ordered these on Amazon Prime sale for $75! Really excited to try these out. Hopefully we can all travel easier soon so I can really test them. I already have Phillips X1 and X2 and are excellent and fun open back headphones.

There's an IEM pair by philips, Philips pro6305bk. They are very cheap and have hi res output. I haven't seen any reviews, i would like you to check them out.
What frequencies would you recommend boosting if you like "sparkly" treble? I'm guessing there's a drop at around 5K to deal with sibilance, since it bugs a lot of people (but not me). What about the higher treble? I use PEACE for EQ.
Wonderful video and I can tell you spent a LOT of time EQing the recording for us. As an amateur audio engineer, your effort is greatly appreciated; it sounds very natural.

Just got them.... Aaahhh... Sound is amazing... Bass is really nice.. Hard.. Not to much not too litle... But solid and nice... Only thing that i dont like is that you must wear them properly on your ears otherwise u hear a litle distorsion... And also the built quality is.... Ok... Not great... But ok... I think its a fair price... Nice review man.. Tnx.

Hi. I use Sennheiser 4.50BTNC as my travel and my "listen music at work" headphones. As I understand, they are very similar model to 450BT. Also I have just recently purchased Philips PH805 for my daughter as a gift. Unfortunately she did not like them (reasons are very subjective and not sound quality related), so I have researched possibility that I would keep them as my 4.50BTNC replacement. Therefore I have done little headhone comparison for myself.
4.50BTNC has much more balanced sound. Huge difference is in how they sound in the low end. At first bass on PH805 made me say "Wow!", however very quicly I realised that it's way too exeggragated and overpowering for me. 4.50BTNC has much more defined and punchy bass, if you understand what I mean (when drummer hits the bass drum you hear clear and quick "Boom!" with 4.50BTNC and kind of slow and not so well defined "BOOOOOOM!" whith PH805). Also mid and high tones are a little bit more recessed in PH805 what creates very bass oriented sound. If you are bass lover you probably will be very happy with PH805 as they sound really good, better than many other bass oriented headphones. However I prefer more balanced sound and I especially value quick and defined bass therefore I am returning PH805.

Helped a lot, please let us know if you can tweek them in the trebles and low mids and mids with ext equilizers.
yeah you can, as long as the equalizer you use allows you to target the low mids or other areas you want to tweek. note that if the ANC is off you will have more headroom room to craft your sound, but with the ANC ON the frequency response is boosted so you might have less room to boost frequencies before distortion so your best option might be to cut back frequencies if ANC is ON. feel free to play around and see what you get.

hi, i bought these pair of headphones after seeing your review. the headphones make a "tick" sound too often, sometimes even without changing music, i feel its because of touch sensitvity, it is really annoying, is it normal or have i recieved a pair of bad headphones? (not just these but also other bluetooth headphones?

For features go for Sony 1000xm3 it much better experience if you can afford the extra cost, however if you are on a budget then the Philips are also great in sound quality but not so good in ANC.
