I love The Chateau! Did you ask about the haunted rooms? When I went to book there they told me they don't allow guests to stay in those rooms anymore, but its possible to look around. They're all on the 3rd floor and I think the room that's most haunted is the one that a nurse died in. She was a nurse for when The Chateau was temporarily made into a mental asylum. I've heard a few stories about The Chateau, but the Waitomo Hotel is supposed to be more actively haunted, its a shame that hotel isn't open anymore.

I was at the Chateau back in 2005, on my honeymoon with my husband. I enjoyed the lounge atmosphere--the music, and playing pool. I cannot recall what room we stayed in and we did not know anything about the haunted stories. We stayed a couple of nights. We must have been on the 3rd floor as I remember we were high up in the hotel. I loved the beautiful, dark built-ins in the room. Strangely, there were weird flies and humidty in the bathroom, that never went away.--the AC in the bedroom did not have enough air flow to cool the room down. I remember after my husband had fallen asleep, I decided to stay up and watch some TV. But, I started feeling eerie in the room for some reason and felt uncomfortable. I had to pray that all was well and that I would just fall asleep and not worry about what I was feeling. Thankfully, I woke up and told my husband about it. We decided to leave that morning to another hotel.

Thanks for your video. Sadly the Chateau is being closed for good from this Sunday 5th Feb 2023. Supposedly the need for earthquake strengthening under the government's regulations has made it impossible to remain open. A real tragedy for all the Staff, the surrounding area, visitors overseas and domestic and NZ as a whole. It was paid for by the taxpayers of NZ and built by Fletcher Construction, an historic firm which itself is now gone. It would take a miracle for it to be saved now. We never got the chance to stay but had lunch there as part of a Steam Rail excursion from Feilding.
There's also the fact that the management were being investigated for serious bullying offences through worksafe. The seismic thing is a smokescreen. I have a hunch it may have closed in an attempt to avoid serious charges. I hope those shitheads get what's coming to them.

I use to go there before about 2 or 3 years ago and i was an amazing beautiful lovely history mansion building but loving that place and National park nz
Thank you for this video The Chateau is a gorgeous place. My high-school had a camp closer to there so I visited the area in the early to mid 1990s. Bern onside the Chateau and stunned by the interior and outside. Plus tramped to the top of Tongoriro and slid down top of Mt Ruapehu with our raincoats and rain trousers. Great memories. Much love ❤

My grandma stops there for devonshire tea with her friend she loves it,I always ask her did you feel any spirits.But she doesn't feel spirits like I do..so will have to find out for my self.History is quite sad here but Also cool Lovely place!
