    @The Network Berg I have AdGuard Home running on a docker on my NAS with all clients on the network behind it (including the router).
    I'm rather amazed that my router IP gateway iteself is getting hit with lots of ads being blocked/processed.
    I wonder if these items aren't even making it to the end destination client on the DHCP, and that is why the router IP gateway address is showing much of the time versus the actual client on the network that's generating it.

      @@gudang0garam IP -> DHCP Server -> Networks tab -> Double-click your LAN network -> DNS Servers (set to 10.0.0.2) -> OK.
      Then (if using Windows) open a CMD prmpt and "ipconfig /release" then "ipconfig /renew" to refresh your DHCP lease with the updated DNS address, pointing to AdguardHome's DNS resolver. Use "ipconfig /all" to confirm that it's been updated as expected.
      Oh, and also (on Windows) do an "ipconfig /flushdns" to get rid of any Windows-cached resolved addresses so that your next DNS queries are sure to flow to AdguardHome's DNS for resolution (and perhaps blocking).

    1. After the adguard is running, can we see how much RAM memory it is consuming?
    2. By end of the video, you simply disabled adguard. But the client's dns still point to adguard IP right?. Does this brings problems to those clients with disabled adguard? Shall we let them still using the IP of "disabled adguard", or bring them back to another IP for the DNS?

    if one uses HTTPS (DoH) or TLS (DoT tls://1.1.1.2 for example) your ISP does not see any DNS requests any longer (expect those used as "bootstrap DNS servers" - which are only used for DoH resolves to contact these DoH servers)

      I implemented this on an RB5009 tonight. It has a USB port that allowed me to connect an external HDD, so that I could use that drive for the container's I/O. I used to have an RB4011 -- which lacked a USB port, and I wasn't comfortable with having my container writing to the RB4011's internal NAND flash drive. I may be paranoid, but that's why I upgraded to the RB5009.

    I dont think docker containers are stable on ROS (*opinion). I used pihole before and it worked brilliantly until I updated to ROS 7.8. Then weird things start to happen. pihole does not run anymore. adguard still runs, but weirdness galore. When i set it up initially I could access the adguard ports from the LAN, then i rebooted the router and now I can not access anything from the LAN anymore when it runs in docker. Only the router can access the containers now. Can still ping veth IP but that is where it stops. Even tried port forward. nothing works. So strange

      Unfortunately video player ads still work through adguard/pihole in this instance. There are blacklists you can add to try and get around it but those lists keep getting updated. So for RUclips specifically I would installing the Adguard app directly on your client as that is more effective at blocking player ads (Also still not 100% effective)

    Now that I've implemented this (on an RB5009 with external USB drive) it's a big "meh". Sure, i's blocking a FEW ads (as shown by the AdguardHome's dashboard) but a great many/most still get through -- on the sites that I commonly visit anyway. I'd turned off my uBlock Origin blocker on my laptop for the testing of AdguardHome's blocking, but now I'll certainly be re-enabling uBlock Origin.

    • @TheNetworkBerg
      @TheNetworkBerg  Год назад

      Yeah most video hosting sites like RUclips or Twitch still mostly serve ads, you can try and add additional filter lists but the ads always slip through. An extension based adblocker on your browser definitely seems to work best, however, even these can get stopped by services like Twitch.

    • @TheNetworkBerg
      @TheNetworkBerg  Год назад +2

      Hey Shephard, there is currently a bug with newer Adguard containers and pulling the image from RouterOS. This issue will be fixed in the next release. Current workarounds are to build the image yourself using Docker and then importing it as a file onto your MikroTik filesystem or to use an older tag to pull the image off the docker hub. If that sounds like a lot of effort then waiting for 7.9 should fix the issue. You can read more about it here on the MT forums:

      There is currently a problem using adguard with Mikrotik, to use it you will either have to download an older version of adguard by using a different tag, or import the image using docker on a linux host to create the image.
      MikroTik has stated they should have this fixed by the next release (this was not an issue at the time of publishing the video and the steps will not change after MT fixes their issue)

      It is probably a permissions error, small update I have made to the pinned comment:
      "Due to an update on docker hub this video currently does not work, it is still the "correct" method, although there is some parameters that dockerhub expects that MT doesn't give and now it does permission errors. MT is working on a Fix with their firmware to get it working by directly pulling the container. Until then please either create your own docker image on a Linux host preferably that you can copy to the MT and import that way. Alternatively you can still use an older TAG to download a version of the container that does work ie adguard/adguardhome:sha2139801ksalk120slq (this is just an example do not use this)"

      Depends how you've configured the service, are your clients using the MikroTik as their DNS server and does the MikroTik use the container as its DNS server? If that's the case it makes complete sense (Also if you are natting traffic to the container as the MikroTik IP) I typically find you need to adjust container configurations a little to allow for remote lookups from other ranges then you will see your client IPs and not the MikroTik IP, as long as the clients use the container as the DNS server.

      Could be a few things, although it typically boils down to either not having enough space for the image to extract correctly or not being able to pull the image from the docker hub, if you aren't using external storage I would suggest adding that and using that to house your containers and as the tmp/dir for initial setup. For the downloading issue it could be that you might be using the incorrect URL on the container settings. Alternate suggestion would be to import the docker yourself from a local machine by either using option b) or c) on the MikroTik docs:

      You'll more or less see this happen with embedded ads on RUclips (Basically the ads that play as you watch videos) since the ad content is served from Google directly and blocking Google with URL filters tend to get tricky and can easily break other stuff. So for those types of ads and extension tends to work best.

      You will then have to restart the MT and it should boot up in container mode. You can verify if it is in container mode by doing a
