IOTA TALK: Understanding the Book of Revelation | Edith Humphrey

From the beginning of Christianity, visions have been both welcomed and guarded by the faithful. In Orthodoxy, the power of the Apocalypse was recognized by its liturgical enactment, while the danger of misinterpretation was registered by its late “canonization.” In the present climate, to ignore the book is to allow its continued misuse and abuse in popular culture, in violent cults, and even among those who name Christ. We suggest an approach to the Apocalypse that is consonant with the fathers, and that also teaches us not to sensationalize contemporary visionary sayings by holy ascetics, as some are now doing.
