I love the way junior treats all his guests with respect and dignity that they deserve and always makes them feel at home. Get these gems interviewed before they are all gone. Great interview!!!
@@tnwhiskey68 Jr's career may not have gone exactly how he would have liked but turns out his "retirement" likely will be much more influential. He obviously loves the sport. Just like Stapleton, he's creating a roadmap to the past. Well done.
Waddell, one of NASCAR legend who worked his way to the top, he is respected by all. He seen it, built it, lived it and his wealth of knowledge is second to none. "Great Interview"
Waddell is a legend - Dude was cool and still is - Waddell Wilson's name is synonymous with fast motors that were durable - There ain't a engine builder with a cooler name -
thank you so much jr for the Waddell Wilson interview i really enjoyed your show i am 65 year old and was at Daytona in in 1980 when buddy baker won Waddell Wilson to me is one of the best engine builder that Nascar has ever had thank you so much for your show
I thought it was one of the best Dale Jr. Downloads I’ve listened to. It was amazing to listen to Waddell tell all of those stories about his nascar days.
My god!!!.. The stories Waddell has to share are just amazing.. What a giant in the racing industry he is.. So glad he is in the Hall of Fame, as this was started to celebrate guys like him.... He doesn't look 87 either, maybe 77.. Sharp as a tack!!.. Thank JR for having him on your show..😉😉
New fans probably wont know most of these interviews. Guys like Waddell, Red Farmer, Will Conkite, Junior Johnson. Jr. keeping history alive. These podcasts are more entertaining than todays racing.
Great interview. Both my older brothers went to school with Waddell at Bowman High School in Bakersville, N.C. This town is famous as being the "Gateway to Roan Mountain" home of the world's largest natural rhododendron gardens. Waddell grew up with strong family and christian values and it has shown through all his personal and professional life. Great man and we need more like him today in racing.
Fantastic interview, Little E! Waddell is so sharp at his age, most of us can only hope to be as good as he is today! Truly one who has forgotten more than most ever knew! Good job, Jr! (Little E!)
thanks for having Waddell Wilson on to the show. When I was on my Daytona 500 watch-a-thon from December 2019 to this month, i was always nice to have Waddell get some TV time during the old races. Let's have Tim Brewer in!
Dale Junior you are the greatest promoter of NASCAR in the history of racing. NASCAR is trying to get world renowned but there’s no question Dale you’re gonna be the prime mover because you’re a world class human being.
I went to Nashville Auto Diesel Collage. They do an excellent job teaching the details of building engines. I'm a 73 year old retired mechanic and armature race car driver
That's awesome! He has some of the best interviews and stories I've ever heard. Love listening to him. Would enjoy meeting him someday. Guys like that built this sport and are awesome to hear from.
I have such respect for Dale Jr. He listens well, asks the right follow up questions and knows his NASCAR history. Plus, he’s a down to earth good guy.
Dale thanks for getting Waddell on as he is one guy the media just forgot about. He was a key player that tied the last to the present. I remember him for years. I was a big David and Cale fan.
I was lucky enough to see the 83 500 in person. I remember that I didn’t think it was all that great of a race then! But as the decades have gone by I’m so proud to be able to say…..I was there!
Dale , The amount of research you have obtained and all the history you have digested , is priceless, it’s so important to talk with all these , great job Man 🏁🏁🏁🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Dale that’s one of the best interviews you have ever had I didn’t know the man so it was kind of a history lesson for me. He was a little bit before my time I just can’t believe for his age he is very sharp. Thanks again great interview.
Dale this was an interview for the ages. Thank you thank you for allowing us to witness and appreciate this legend and treasure of a man. You keep going my brother, your podcast and channel are really good and downright important.
Thanks for your podcasts. You're creating a great service by documenting the history of auto racing. I'm 77 and everything Waddell Wilson is describing is completely normal to me. This is the way racing was done. No factory BS. All the good guys were known to the community these were guys that pulled themselves up by their tenacity and OTJ training. The manufactures knew who these people were and made sure they had the right information and parts. Working 14 to 16 hours was just common back in the day. Whoever worked the hardest with the right connections won.
Dale needs to create his own Hall of fame for these behind the scenes people and really needs to stand up and applaud them for their brief existence on earth and their contribution in carving out the best era of racing!
OUTSTANDING!!!!!!! What an incredible job Dale.....your preparation and presentation was unequaled.....Waddell is an AMAZING man who exhibits the very best of the best....from his engine building skills to an amazing innovator and crew chief and a man of impeccable character.....They don't make em like that anymore!!!!! Thanks for a very special presentation!!!
Waddell is absolutely one of the greatest to ever turn a wrench. It was a true pleasure to listen to him tell stories. Like Dale Jr, the Grey Ghost was my favorite ever car and that 1980 Daytona 500 is one of my earliest memories of racing so hearing him talk about it brought me right back to those years. Thank you Dale Jr for doing such an amazing thing bringing in people like Waddell and doing such a fantastic job conversing with him.
Great interview, Buddy!! I love how you pay homage to the greats....not by kissing ass, but how you lean in on everyword. Waddell Wilson is one of those guys, who didn't draw attention to himself. Just let his car do the talking!
This was the best episode yet. I could listen to the old stories in nascar nonstop. They are so fascinating to me. The way they started out and the way they learned to tweaked every single advantage possible. Jr needs to try a get one old timer per week on the show. Absolute favorite episode yet!
Wow Dale you are great at getting people to share their story. What great documentation of verbal history about Fireball, Buddy Baker and many others! Love what you are doing!
The man was a genius when it came to motors. I always think of that #28 Hardee's Monte Carlo and 1983 when I see or hear Waddell. Jr you have found your calling brother. You are the best NASCAR interviewer and historian that there has ever been dude. As a 49 year old guy that has been born and raised in HUEYTOWN, ALABAMA I love hearing and seeing people , places, and things from the golden years of stock car racing. Thanks again Dale. Have a wonderful week bro
thankyou jr it was awesome to listen to waddell wilson i always been big fan of him to listen to the stories and probably not even half of what he can tell and to listen to hes seems like hes most down to earth even as famous he is than you again jr
The best one Dirty Mo has ever done. Met him many years ago as a kid in the garage at the World 600 through a family friend on race winner Bonnetts crew. Waddell was already a legend then and crew chief of my favorite driver Cale Yarborough. Would have never known how important he was just talking to him. Fascinating character. Watched every second of this one 👍
Yes Yes Yes you did right bringing him in. Yes some stories we've heard some we haven't but for me I can listen to these legends over and over again so keep bringing them in. We've lost so many so we need to see these guys and here there stories before there gone. Thanks for sharing these videos
Dale I am so thankful the you are doing long form interviews like this. This was a NASCAR history lesson. It would be a real shame not to have these stories recorded for future generations. Thank you are doing a really great job. 👏 🙏
When I think of Nascar engine builders, I think of Waddell Wilson and the Yates bros. I know there are other greats like Maurice Petty, etc.. but they still dont stand out to me like those two!
Jr, you’ve interviewed some fascinating and legendary figures in Motorsport. I’ve enjoyed them all. But, I was riveted listening to Waddell. I could have listened to you both for I don’t know how long. How many poles? Man!
The most surprising part of this interview was that Nashville auto diesel college had a basketball team. I’m assuming this was something like intramurals.

One of the best interviews that I can remember. Glad you had him on the show. I can remember some of those cars and their drivers and they were the best. Amazing speed and rarely did they break down. Loved his explanation of stretching the rod bolts on those Ford's. I'm a bowtie man but those Ford engines from the 60s and 70s made some serious HP.
I have been very impressed with your commitment for putting the effort into making people lives matter. You are correct in saying that we don't know how good we have it compared to many that do not. Very nicely done indeed!!!
Waddell is quite spry for 87. I want to be like him when I grow up lol

Jr. does his homework as well - wonderful trip into yesterdays NASCAR.
He has passion for the sport and respect for the predecessors to his day. That makes him valuable to keeping the history alive!
@@tnwhiskey68 Jr's career may not have gone exactly how he would have liked but turns out his "retirement" likely will be much more influential. He obviously loves the sport. Just like Stapleton, he's creating a roadmap to the past. Well done.
Junior should try his had as Crew Chief for one of his Xfinity cars. That would be cool to witness.
We don’t even understand yet how important these conversations will be to us in the future.
Waddell, one of NASCAR legend who worked his way to the top, he is respected by all. He seen it, built it, lived it and his wealth of knowledge is second to none. "Great Interview"
