    Once again the testament and will of a decided underdog comes to the forefront in amateur athletics, but this instance is at another level! Marshall hadn't even won an NCAA post-season game in men's soccer until 2019! Not only did the Herd win a title in their first ever trip to the College Cup, they became the first team in the history of D-I to defeat four consecutive national championship programs in the same tournament! What an incredible accomplishment! To say Marshall's path was daunting would actually be selling what they did short! Their run was iconic!

    • @Lufsixq
      @Lufsixq 3 года назад

      To put that in perspective Marshall beat #23 Fordham, #1 and 1 seed Clemson, #7 and 8 seed defending national champs Georgetown, #16 North Carolina and #3 and 3 seed Indiana for the title. That would be like taking down in basketball last years Cinderella, Kentucky, Duke, North Carolina and then beating UCLA for the title in the same tournament.

I sorta know why Fleming did though. H was one of 3 finalist for the Marshall job in 2017 along with Ryan Swan (Drewy DII HC) and Chris Grassie (University of Charleston (DII) HC), 4 days after Grassie was hired at Marshall, NIU hired Swan. Records since then are: Ryan Swan (23-48-4, 4 losing seasons, no NCAAs), Andy Fleming (28-28-11, 2 losing seasons, no NCAAs) Chris Grassie (46-24-11, 2 losing seasons. 30-5-6 last 2 years, 2 NCAAs, 1 Sweet 16, 1 College Cup National Championship.), Fleming didn't get the job and you can tell he resented it. There is no extra time in college because there isn't a running clock. The clock is stopped on injuries, time wasting or just ball movement not related to the game. If the game is tied at the end of regulation then the college game goes to 2 10 min overtimes. If a goal is scored (Golden Goal) the game is over, basically becomes sudden death. If no one scores in 2 OT periods then it goes to PKs. In the regular season games end in a tie, in conference tournaments and the NCAA where there has to be a winner it goes to PKs.

      Indiana played Marshall the same way they played Pitt. They give up the possession game to score on the counter attack. They set back and waited for the mistake Marshall would make, that never come. They had only 2 good chances, the ball that went off the post and the corner header that went wide. After their 1st 6 shots on goal in the 1st 32 mins they only had 1 shot in the next 66 mins of the rest of the 1st half, 2nd half and OT. None after the 56:32 mark of the 2nd half. Shots on Goal: Indiana 7, 1 on goal, Marshall 17, 8 on goal. Had their GKer not been elite Indiana would have lost by at least 3 in regulation.

    • @Arnabit
      @Arnabit 3 года назад

      you don’t understand the concept of extra time in tournament football. In NA tournament sports they play “over” a regulation time. like NFL playoffs play another quarter (15min) at OT, and NHL playoffs another period (20min) at OT. Football doesn’t play another 45min, instead 2x15min halves. Term in basketball is since they have unlimited numbers of OT until the game ends with a winner, that is why the rest of the world calls it OT not extra time. But since college soccer operates the game like no other in other domestic or international football like countdown clock and 10min ‘OT’ after regulation… I think it makes sense for Americans to use the term like other NA sports.
