I never knew it was legal to dive there, I've always wanted to go in
some areas are and some aren’t. watch out for fish and game officers who are looking to ticket everyone and ask questions later. the harbor police and city police just wave hi 👋

My father was free diving and spearfishing the Wedge back in the 50's. He continued through the years until the late 70's. The things he experienced and the fish he speared was pretty amazing.

FYI, that isn't a Blue Crab at the beginning. The claws are too thin and lack color. Also, they only live in the wild on the US East Coast.

Thanks, the fish just look at all the hooks. Unfortunately everywhere in this area there are discarded lines and hooks so the fish see them constantly and I think learn to ignore them and not bite.
also the sand is not empty there are thousands of Macro and Micro organisms. When you go to the beach in the summer watch the surf on the shoreline,as the surge recedes watch for a small V shape in the sand that points toward shore and dig there quickly. If you were quick enough you have caught a Pacific mole crab or a bunch! Observe briefly and put back in the wet sand and watch how fast it buries itself...

I was there two days ago. on the other side. Woods, shaws cove and crystal cove have been checked off the list. Any where else I should check out? I live in OC and been loving these locations.
in Laguna Beach, Goff Island, Treasure Island Cove, Heisler Park kelp Forest and Seal Rock.
I'm surprised Harbor Patrol didn't run you out of there.

Just a heads up, I was spear fishing the boat side of the wedge Friday 6-18-21 (within 20 ft of rocks) and was stopped by the sheriff! I thought they just wanted to see my fishing license but they gave me a court summons for an infraction for having the spear gun!? I guess they could have charged me with more but I was really caught off guard as there are no posted warning signs and I had a dive float! They said it was like going for a jog by the highway, super illegal. So bummed. I have a court appearance end of July.
Sorry to hear that Christopher. I was once stopped by Newport Beach Police Fish and Game and they told me it's illegal to swim in the harbor from between the end of the houses to the outer jetty. Luckily I had completed my dives for the video first. And exactly like you say, there are no warnings or anything saying not to etc. Bummer.
Where do you park? I always wanted to visit the Jetty but I didn't see any public parking. Do you park on the street in front of houses and is it free?
park in the neighborhood, it’s free and walk like 4 to 5 blocks.
What CAMERA do you use? and Selfie stick for underwater?
GoPro 7 Black with the GoPro El Grande stick
How much weight do you recommend for your belt?
Depends on what your doing...I only use 5 lbs so I'm not as buoyant in the 4' to 7' zones. Getting down deepers it works great with the weight of the water. This is with wearing a 4/3 wetsuit which is super buoyant. Also with only 5 lbs, when i go down much deeper like 20' plus, it's still easy to surface with minimal effort.
