At 71 years old and after 50 years of golfing, I went to a flatter backswing like that. It's good to see that I'm not the only one. What it has done is prevent me from doing an outside-to-in swing, eliminating my habitual slice. I had a 75mph swing speed but have increased it to 94 now (still working on it) because I feel like I can rotate and reach back much better. It's a more natural feeling.
I have this same swing primarily due to lower back issues. Turning the hips and exploding through the ball results in drives of 275 - 300 yards. I’m 63 years old and enjoying it while I can. This swing won’t last long.
She has double jointed elbows. She is simply using what God gave her. Her back is just fine. Her sometimes hot and ice-cold putting is the real issue. She is a great ball stricker and overall athlete! Check her elbows/arms out from a face on view when she is at the address position. 🤜🏿🤛🏿🇺🇦🇺🇸
Hinako is my favorite LPGA player, but her swing now is so much flatter than it was when she won the AIG several years ago. Not sure if that's good or bad - she has been up and down this year
It lends itself to being very straight but not so good out of thick rough. She also gets tons of roll on her driver due to her trajectory and shallow landing angle which got her in trouble when she was in the hunt at Muirfield. Shibuno is great though, smiling and laughing most of the day, wish she'd get a touch steeper and get a bit more turn with a straighter right need to get her a bit more yardage. She needs to gain some yards on the field.
@@sitkadawg1938 I had a chance to follow her at Saticoy in the final round when she was in contention. She didn't play well but she was just a joy to watch. Was shocked to see her play so well in the Open, and her 2nd place finish hopefully has punched her ticket to their Tour Championship.
She get her power by clinking her body and shoulder turn together...and this is a/the way to do it. At 72 years of age I rely predominately on my torso turn...it helps greatly with consistency too.
There is a saying from golf guru whatever your swing is as long you hit thru the down swing is the impact is square ...or hit it square the ball goes straight plain and simple
Yes part of her problem is her golf swing is John Rahm-like yet she doesn't have the body nor strength of John Rahm. Her backswing needs to be longer. Her hands, arm and club need to be more in front of her chest throughout the swing. On the backswing. Basically she needs to stick her arms and hands up in the air so she can deliver the club 'down the line' on the downswing. No way she can do that now with her current BS. With a longer back swing and the club hands and arms in the correct position --- more vertical arm and hands position on BS --- she could generate more speed on the downswing with less effort.
I wouldn't suggest anyone attempt to replicate her swing. Her elbows are double jointed, and she was a world-class softball/baseball player before she ultimately decided to play golf professionally. Check out how close she is able to get her elbows/arms together at address from a face on view. It's incredible that she is even able to swing a club. Disclaimer: Do not try this at home! 😉😉😉😉🇺🇦🇺🇸
Hinako is 5’6 but has short legs long torso which allow her to swing on this plane. This swing is optimized for her body and there should be more golf instruction out there on what optimal swing is for different body component sizes imo
Remember: those with arms shorter than their wingspan or short in height (under average) will naturally have a flatter, more compact swing with lower centre of gravity❗️
Somebody call the paramedics. This golf swing is ailing. Someone made the comment that her form has been up and down this season. Let's see why.....pause the video when she swings to the top of her backswing. Look at the location of her hands, arms and the handle of the club. Note: you want to keep the hands, arm and club in front of your body/chest during the swinging motion. As you can see, she does not have the arms, hands and club in front of her body as she completes her backswing. They are located to the left of her body/torso/chest.....which is Too Deep, Too Much Around and Too Low at the top. Because of where she takes her hands, arms and club on the backswing she cannot find her "line of play" on the downswing. Now forward the video and pause it during the downswing.... half way down. From that point.... she is delivering the club Too much from the inside with the shaft too low and behind her body. From there she has too options... 1. She can deliver the club through impact with passive hands, in which case the ball will start too far to the right of her intended line of play. Off the tee, If she does that consistently with her tee shots she'll never see the left side of the golf course. She'll be pushing and blocking to the right in an effort to square the face at impact. 2. She can try to save the shot and square the face by flipping at it with her hands. Which if you're a tour player that negatively impacts both effectiveness and efficiency. Flipping at the ball through impact for a tour player is like playing Russian roulette with a pistol. You can get away with it for a while, but eventually you're dead. Think of this...say her ball Is lying on a downslope and you ask her to hit a fairway metal and 'make sure the ball starts on your intended line'....which is down the middle if the fairway. Well, she won't be able to do it. She can't do it because the golf club, her hands and arms are out of position on the backswing. Therefore, her body is in the way on the downswing so she can't find her line of play without blocking or flipping at it. Ben Hogan said the best ball striker he ever saw was Bill Mehlhorn. One of the best golf books ever published was Golf Secrets Exposed by Bill Mehlhorn. Mehlhorn said, "you must always have a direct line to the ball on the downswing". Currently she does not have a direct line to the ball on the downswing. With her current backswing, there is no way she could start the ball down the left side of the fairway and have it fall off to the right with a soft fade. If you asked her to do that, her only recourse is to block fade it or push fade it. Both of those shots are defensive blows. You can't win tournaments professionally on any tour with a golf swing that produces defensive blows. That would be like trying to win in the Indianapolis 500 driving a Volkswagen.
Thanks, Hairy Bison. Yes, I agree. I'm no longer in the golf business, so I'm not trying to gain followers. I'm just trying to give my perspective and in doing so help people understand the golf swing better and improve their game. The response I usually get come from the golf swing Attack Trolls.....those that think they know the golf swing, but in realty they know just enough to be dangerous. @@hairybison
Flat is not a problem...as long as its shallow into the ball...Steep is a much worse problem...tall pris with steep swings are all trying to flatten thru the ball...Golf is not a paint by numbers game. You have to actually look at each player individually.

How much longer is her driver shaft than standard! About 4 inches by the look of it.
Wow, stunning!!!! I wish I could see this swing in slow motion. I would love to see her down swing. What a pure swing.
I would take that swing any day. Great contact and impact position.
Ben Hogan had to learn the flat swing to keep from hooking the ball.

Very short backswing but she explodes through the ball. Rahm-like.
Never thought I could describe another swing as Rahm-like but that is pretty Rahm-like
