Thanks my buddy over at smore firewood did the build i wanted something that was fast so we got it down to a 2.2 cycle time i think a eastonmade axis is about 4.5 cycle time . . Your putting out some great videos keep up the great work an welcome to the firewood community i see your new like us to youtube
To get it unstuck - check out the Eastonmade Axis design - they welded a couple of pieces either side of the ram such that on the return stroke, it clears any logs which are stuck to it. It would be a lot safer than the chainsaw.
If you look above the splitter knife we added a wood stripper on each side to protect the hose fitting on the ram but i didnt want them to come all the way down and hide the splitter knife but would still help in stripping the wood , looking back we could add a couple inches to it and still keep the knife visible for making videos .
Hi Phil, your guy certainly did a heck of a job on your splitter. You definitely don’t want to be tired running it. At least once every 30 seconds count your fingers. You could have your welder put a couple stripper plates on to pull the log off when you get stuck. Give yourself a week or so and you will learn it’s capabilities and may not happen much. The chain saw trick worked quite well. Be safe and get stacking. Nice job.
Thanks we added a couple stripper plates more to just protect the fitting on the ram piston . probably should have made them longer but i didnt want to hide the splitter knife behind them . Ya you really want to be on ya game when working with this splitter but there is a valve to slow it down if i want to but thats no fun .
I have been running powersplit for years .how much would you build me one for I am being serious. I'm needing another vertical spliter for my company I understand that you don't build them to sale but I would like to have one.
Thanks ive sent a couple people your way looking for a similar splitter . Sorry it took so long to get back to ya i ben sick as a dog for 2 weeks an slacked off on responding to comments . It was a fun build i like most anything that goes fast lol
Thanks i didnt want the extra table because i wanted the wood after it was split to almost fall on its own down into the conveyor . We added a flow valve to control the speed so we can slow it down for regular people to be able to run it . Honestly a 2 second cycle time is to fast im 8 weeks along in recovering from chopping my thumb 75% off
That’s awesome, very fast. Now I want a vertical 😆 Where did you get the hydraulic pump mount for the Kohler? I just built one with a 28gpm pump and a 22hp Kohler, I couldn’t find a mount like that and had to get a foot mount style. Kind of a pain to align it. Better wear gloves, then you know where your finger ends up!

It’s called s’more firewood and his name is Dana . Guy is a wiz at hydraulics welding and fabrication and he dose firewood so he knows how to build splitters .
