not sure that sitting luffing on the startline produces a good start. Find a lane at full speed, even if you are a boat length behind, gets you ahead and incontrol of the "field".
Depends on the boat and the fleet. These were mostly big boats that need more space to accelerate. If you’re on a J70 or Melges 24 that can get to full speed in a boat length, parking on the line works.
