    Today Richard broke a lengthy losing streak in head-to-head matches (he hasn't matched the past 7 times he's been chosen).
    Now with 7 total wins, he's pulled into the lead in terms of total matches by any one celeb.
    So far, we still only have 5 celebs total who have scored 3 or more matches.
    Here are those five, along with their accuracy % to date:
    Betty - 42.9% (6 wins in 14 attempts).
    Charles - 41.7% (5 wins in 12 attempts).
    Bert - 30.8% (4 wins in 13 attempts).
    Brett - 28.6% (4 wins in 14 attempts).
    Richard - 23.3% (7 wins in 30 attempts).
    If you combine these five most-selected celebs, you get 26 wins out of 83 attempts = 31.3%
    *These stats include every head-to-head match from episode 1 through 130, excluding the lost/missing episodes 31, 32, 33.

      There's an episode where Fannie Flagg wears a Confederate Flag shirt WITH a black celebrity on the panel. THEN, in yet another episode, she actually says "Robert E. Lee was a good person" right with a black contestant standing in front of the Audience Match board... then Gene Rayburn(?spell?) says "I agree." Neither one looked over to see the man was clearly uncomfortable by them doing that.
      (It happens in the _Match Game 75_ version of the show. I can find the clips if they're on RUclips.) (Not that anyone wants to see it, but it happened and I'm disgusted.)

Morey gave away 5,000 in a head to head match for the semi regulars. Fannie gave away 500 in a audience match match. And Greg gave away 250 dollars in an audience match with 11 matches for the semi regulars.. Richard takes the lead this week in the totals for the season.. Thank you Greg.. ;0) I knew I like him for a reason more than just being on Mission Impossible.. ;0)

    I'm surprised Great Scott was up there, considering it wouldn't be popularized for another 11 years. I guess it was a catchphrase even before Back to the Future.

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 5 лет назад +5

      Beth Di Bartolomeo the interjection “Great Scott” dates back to the 19th century and is said to have started as a minced oath. By the late 20th century it was considered dated, more often used in film and TV indicate someone is old fashioned or for humor. The character Doc Brown of Back to the Future fame, popularized the phrase again in the 80s, though more as a humorous exclamation.

    • @Charlesb88
      @Charlesb88 5 лет назад +4

      srawrats77 even in 1955, the phrase would have been seen as somewhat old fashioned, at least amoung children and teens. It lets remember it’s the writers of the script that chose to have him say that based on what they thought someone of his age might used as an exclamation. I don’t think it was that commonly used anymore by the 1950s. Also Doc Brown was somewhat eccentric so he would likely still use certain phrases/words not or no longer in most people’s vocabulary.

      The reference is to General Winfield Scott, who commanded one of the two American armies in the Mexican War and was the Union general-in-chief at the beginning of the Civil War. This and other evidence, although not conclusive, points strongly to Winfield Scott as the source of “Great Scott!”

    • @kevansf
      @kevansf 2 года назад +2

      I was surprised too. "Sheets" is a perfectly normal thing to associate with a house and a housewife (the situation suggested by the question), plus it rhymed to fit the "poem." That made the KKK reference sound totally out of left field. Still, I have to keep in mind this was (nearly) 50 years ago (taped in December 1973) and it's both foolish and unfair to try to judge Richard (or anyone) in the past by our current standards, although my sincere opinion is that RD didn't mean anything by it and didn't intentionally blurt that out with a black woman champion sitting in the studio and a black actor on the celebrity panel. Sadly, I'm sure that Brenda, as an African American woman who grew up circa the 1960s, was frequently reminded in ways both subtle and blatant that she wasn't seen as a fully equal American by the majority of society and was inured to casual reminders of racism and worse. In order to maintain her sanity and good nature, she would necessarily have to let things like this just slide right over her and move on. And obviously, she'd heard far, far worse on many occasions.
