  • The idea behind his video is to illustrate the importance of internalizing the time cycle and specific tabla parts to the extent that it is possible to recite out loud while playing the composition at the same time.
    Sitarists Chris Hale and Shawn Barry play a slow composition (Vilambit Gat) in 16-beat time cycle (Teental) in Raag Khamaj.

      Yes, Glenn! The goal is to get to that point where more complex rhythms can be played, taans and todas, for example while still reciting. But even just this simple ex. can work wonders when returned to use iTablaPro, in terms of being much more aware of the tabla and where it is in the time cycle, while one is playing.
