I really enjoyed this episode and as I'm listening to you all talking about creating music that goes in unusual directions and sometimes sounds dissonant/wrong on the first listen, I'm thinking 'you need to check out Richard Thompson'.
He's an amazing electric and acoustic guitar player who plays each instrument differently. He's also an excellent song writer and singer. He comes from a traditional/folk background but he mixes this with jazz and blues to create a unique sound. His live electric guitar solos are insanely original (check out: all of the soundtrack for Werner Herzog's film Grizzly Man, plus: Calvary Cross, Gethsemene, Hard on Me, Put it There Pal).
Another excellent and original sounding guitarist is the late Kelly Joe Phelps.

I agree with Abe... don't lose your creative muscle by using AI. Remember, making music is fun. Why give that up?

Today at Band Camp, I learned that there are no wrong notes that are played, only creative minds that play the notes🤙🏾

Really interesting. I feel like Bach might have approached some of his music like this. The originator of the discord. If you were young back in the late 60s and early 70s, many of these chord progressions sound very familiar. And not even “prog rock,” but like Chicago and Yes and other fm radio bands.

Love this episode, so much to it and lots to digest! I'm not sure what I think of AI yet either. I kind of feel like while our brains learn and develop and make new things from all the past music, we also introspect pretty well and can give credit. AI almost feels like "music laundering" in a way--taking the music from past artists and mixing it in with enough stuff that you might not be able to tell where it came from 😂 Also Kid A is such a good album, I used to have a username based on it but everyone kept calling me Kida so I just got rid of it eventually XD

@scrambledeggspdx - I recently read an article that made a really good point about how AI (if we don't regulate big corporations' use of it and tax progressively) will be like slavery - using the intelligence of human beings for the gain of a very few. I think that's a good point and when we come to creativity it makes even more sense: AI has (yet) no ability to create anything original, all it can do is take what humans have created and rework it. Just think of all of the creative human beings that have given us the music we enjoy today - well AI is simply using their work and genius to put the next generation out of business.
