Rather than the Deeproot envoys being associated with Godwyn, and given their prior association with Ranni, I'm wondering if these enemies were slated to appear to the player only after having initiated certain flags in the various ending quests, resulting in more of a dynamic introduction to the story. E.g. Once you marry Ranni, the envoys would appear in the cathedral above, and maybe retroactively around Renna's Rise. Similarly, the envoys may have appeared in the Depths after giving Fia both halves of the Cursemark of Death where she lies at the end of her quest. There are already envoys in upper Leyndell where Goldmask's story ends - and while Dungeater and the Three Fingers are both technically in Leyndell as well, wouldn't it be interesting if there were also envoys in the loadlists for the Sewers/Shunning Grounds?

That moment when u just went out to the wall from outer wall grace and seeing the majestic sight of Gransax and the capital with the erdtree, with envoys' horn soundtrack, that was phenomenal for me. Until much later they became annoying wih the bubbles.
We wrote a whole lore vid on how they could be connected to the albinaurics but the fact that they drop the white flesh and we're labeled as moon servants pretty much shoots that idea down. Now they feel more like a creature who had their lore separated from their use in-game. Zulie's data dives are incredible.
I always figured that they were indeed the Albinaurics that went to the Haligtree, since it is stated in Loretta's descriptions that she led the Albinaurics there for safety. As for the blood difference, it's quite possible that they've been modified by the Haligtree, much like all the other servants of Malenia and Miquella.
Their round legless lower half remind me of daruma statues, which are apparently a depiction of a zen monk that meditated for so long that his legs disappeared.
It's been a while since I've played so excuse my lack of...words. Anything to their magic? They use bubble magic. The, uh, "clay" guys down underground also use bubble magic. I remember the clay guys magic being about "oracles." It seems unlikely that there isn't some connection between two groups using "bubble magic." Thanks for the videos. At this point you're my number one lore channel. The examination of in-game assets provides important context clues to what is or what might be.
I laughed so hard when I first saw these things! You're greeted with this amazing scene of the Tree and the city. Then pan left and are greeted with the sight of these Stay Puff'd derplings twirling around playing Hot Cross Buns on recorders!
I'm a bit surprised you didn't mention that the clay men are apparently looking for them, based on the descriptions of their bubble spells. I have no clue what that implies, other than that the oracle envoys possibly date back to the civilization that build the ancient ruin architecture such as uld palace and the structure that became moghwyn palace. The bubble sorceries seemingly being a sorcery-based mimicry of the holy damage bubbles made by the envoy horns is interesting and could have some pretty broad implications.
Maybe with Ranni being an empyrean could make that odd link a little more thick? Maybe in early development there was some tie? Idk just an idea to spring from
These are such interesting looking/acting characters. Easily a personal favorite. Really hope we learn more about them in the DLC or at some point down the line!
Imagine a boss version of one of these that summons minions throughout the fight and it's just a wild mess of bubbles and and a giant one of these guys rolling around the arena.
Next to the Malenia blossomed flowers there are tombstones with laying statues on them, depicting either monks or priests who wear the same head cloth( only it covers the entire face and still has this alien look). I recon that they were high ranking individuals who earned honor by serving Haligtree from still living Miquella. The remaining ones including children( judging by the size) went through some grotesque transformation probably for the purpose of rebirth like Miquella, whom they seem to praise very much. Theese oracles are either an early or a late stage of that transformation.
I imagine that the "long lost oracles" that the Claymen seek "in their bubbles" are the Oracle envoys who might have heralded their dynasty's rise to power. Hoping to see them appear again is them clinging to a long lost hope.
I never once looked at these things close enough to realize it was a hat. I just assumed they were monsters and a tribute to the mushroom people from Dark Souls.
The envoys remind me a lot of descriptions of the Court Of Azathoth in Cthulhu mythos. In the domain of this seemingly mindless god of chaos, amorphous flute players gather, tooting their instruments in worship. Given that Elden Ring has no shortage of cosmic horror inspiration, I can see these creatures being the servants of some incomprehensible cosmic will, just here as a pleasantry, blowing their horns to sound in a new age.
I want to believe the Heralds were at the Haligtree for Miquella. Before he was kidnapped by Mhog he was in a caccoon within the Haligtree in order to age up and ascend to godhood. Perhaps he was reaching the level with f divinity sparking the Heralds’ appearance before he got snatched.
We interpret the horn as an instrument but what if it's like a listening horn and they're trying to listen for something in the cosmos that is approaching? Definitely not the case but I want more cosmic horror
Love the implication here that they're actually much more alien beings than they look and their mouth actually functions as an ear. An ear that can blow. Amazing I love it
The Outer Gods are ripe with potential cosmic horror and I expect at least a little more info on at least one of them from future DLC. The scorpion stinger dagger says it's a relic from a sealed outer god of rot, that implies it's a giant scorpion like God that is sealed away somewhere. Unlike something like the Formless Mother, who does not inhabit a physical form and seems to be some dimension of sentient fireblood that Mohg opens a portal to and grabs some to throw at you as an attack. There's all kinds of weirdness to get deeper into, those are just the two outer gods I find are less talked about but I have some info about. I can't imagine they plan for DLC and don't divulge a little info or give us a peak at something. Dark Souls 1 and 3 had some incredible DLC that let us time travel to the past and to the future, showing us things we would have never known otherwise (like where Oolacile was and went or how the numerous ages of fire turn the entire world into a giant ash desert at the end of time).
@@The_Fat_Turtle The god of rot was sealed under the lake of rot by the blind swordsman, who if I remember correctly was the mentor of Malenia. That's also why those rot insects are gathered in the grand cloister, it's close to their god.
A note about most Albinaurics. No matter the form, they bleed silver. Whether it be in lore, items, particle effects, or the _splatter textures_ that get tossed on the ground. At first, I thought Envoys were Albinaurics as well, but before I realized the impication of the Bloodless Flesh, I noticed something else; As I killed a few, I realized that the area wasn't caked in silver blood, as with other Albinaurics, so I assumed there just weren't any for some reason. But there _was._ a conspicious area of ground, relfecting light, shaped like the usual blood splatter, right where I just fought one. I'm not sure, it could be just me mistaking a random puddle, but I think these fellas just bleed straight _water._
Before I started watching all these Elden Ring videos, I didn't realize the Envoys had human mouths and interpreted what we can see of their faces as weird fleshy beaks.
With these guys appearance signalling the coming of a new god, it makes sense that seeing them in the capital would represent you becoming the new Lord. At the Haligtree however, they aren't there for you. They are there for Melenia. A fantastic piece of foreshadowing for the god you are about to combat.
I believe they're related to Lovecraft lore, not Ranni. Azathoth, the main entity in HPL's cosmovision is surrounded by a court of beings which play the flute. Azathoth's main representative and agent is Nyarlathotep and is closely related to the moon, having an important outpost there.
they're kinda similar to these lovecraftian creatures called Servitors of the Outer Gods that also carry whistling instruments and have a connection to gods

I love this lore - thank you for all these videos with a modder's eye!
The moon connection would certainly explain why they’re so round
I really do love your videos; the simple shot of the oracle looking up at Godwyn is just perfect, it implies so much
Always a pleasure, Zullie!
I'm happy we have an answer as to why they were outside the Haligtree
1:18 zullie respectfully staring
It's been a while since I've played so excuse my lack of...words.
Anything to their magic? They use bubble magic. The, uh, "clay" guys down underground also use bubble magic. I remember the clay guys magic being about "oracles." It seems unlikely that there isn't some connection between two groups using "bubble magic."
Thanks for the videos. At this point you're my number one lore channel. The examination of in-game assets provides important context clues to what is or what might be.
Kinda hoped of something more i admit. I got intrigued witht the helmet's description they drop.
This is great. Thank you Zullie !
What's under their big weird hat? My guess would be their big weird head.
Zelda Music fits so well in the elden ring verse! Love how you use it for most of your vids!
Maybe with Ranni being an empyrean could make that odd link a little more thick? Maybe in early development there was some tie? Idk just an idea to spring from
They remind me of the mysterious pipers that play flutes to keep azathoth asleep in lovecrafts Cthulhu mythos
The spatter when you hit the oracles is identical to the spatter from Elden Beast which probably means they're connected even more so than before
Their weird little arms made me think of the arm coming out of the cocoon in Mohg's cutscene.
I just assumed they were monsters and a tribute to the mushroom people from Dark Souls.
round little fellas
Perhaps he was reaching the level with f divinity sparking the Heralds’ appearance before he got snatched.
perhaps whats inside them is clay? it could be that they claymen were the oracles of the time of the dynast's empire
0:57 OH MY GOD THE CAKE
One thing that ties them to the moon is their shape. Big, white and round.
Man that title spiked my heart rate for a second
We interpret the horn as an instrument but what if it's like a listening horn and they're trying to listen for something in the cosmos that is approaching? Definitely not the case but I want more cosmic horror
Pale legless beings manifesting out of thin air to sound horns because they're sensing the coming of a new god is kind of cosmic horror already.
@@The_Fat_Turtle The God of Rot, is sealed under the Lake of Rot if i am not mistaken.
@@The_Fat_Turtle The god of rot was sealed under the lake of rot by the blind swordsman, who if I remember correctly was the mentor of Malenia. That's also why those rot insects are gathered in the grand cloister, it's close to their god.
Probably my favorite enemies in the game. The mystery is so palpable.
A note about most Albinaurics. No matter the form, they bleed silver. Whether it be in lore, items, particle effects, or the _splatter textures_ that get tossed on the ground.
At first, I thought Envoys were Albinaurics as well, but before I realized the impication of the Bloodless Flesh, I noticed something else;
As I killed a few, I realized that the area wasn't caked in silver blood, as with other Albinaurics, so I assumed there just weren't any for some reason.
But there _was._ a conspicious area of ground, relfecting light, shaped like the usual blood splatter, right where I just fought one.
I'm not sure, it could be just me mistaking a random puddle, but I think these fellas just bleed straight _water._
They could be at the erdtree awaiting the blooming of the goddess of rot.
"Elden Ring - Mostly Dissapointment"
Damn, that's raw.
I haven't played elden ring, or any souls game very extensively in the past, but I really enjoy these trivia videos youre making.
I call them diaper gurus and my friends absolutely hate it
Can't wait to play as Baby Oracle in Elden Kart
Oh wow, I didn't realize they were holding my future beneath their clothes
since its Fromsoft and Miyazaki, i can only imagine the Baby Envoys would just essentially be a little ball with a face, floating around.
Bloodborne water professor vibes. Except they doot instead of spill cosmic goo
I believe they're related to Lovecraft lore, not Ranni.
Azathoth, the main entity in HPL's cosmovision is surrounded by a court of beings which play the flute. Azathoth's main representative and agent is Nyarlathotep and is closely related to the moon, having an important outpost there.
"First you honk, then you bonk!" ~ Nameless Tarnished
they're kinda similar to these lovecraftian creatures called Servitors of the Outer Gods that also carry whistling instruments and have a connection to gods
Well I'm not disappointed after watching this. Thanks Zullie!
They signal my arrival but they continue to blow bubbles at me? Heathens!
Thinking about the envoys i realize that the premise of a land controlled by mayor forces that want stagnation and you are the ultimate agent of change is a concept that we see many many times in different ip's, games and series and i'm not tired of it
