Appreciate the review! Just about hit the “buy” button on the Mutant. But after watching the video, and hearing your comments, looks like I’m waiting until the fall. Thank you.
With the lack of Tenkara in brick/mortar stores (sans TUSA), rod reviews from you/Tom/Tristan/Chris/Mike A. are invaluable to us looking to enhance the on-stream experience. Many thanks, shipmate! When crossing over in the beginning, I thought I would prefer a stiffer rod; turns out that I favor softer rods between 360-390cm for presenting unweighted emerger patterns. The Mizuchi was a leap of faith purchase based on Tom Davis’s VLOGs and posts. It remains a ‘prospecting rod’ and a back-up for when the cover gets tight and/or Browns become a possibility. The IceWing/DarkWing may be a purchase based on yours/Tom/Brent’s reviews; also, because I’m a huge fan of Dragontail’s customer service. V/r, Mitch
Thank you very much! So excited for this rod! DRAGONtail never disappoints! I flyfished hardcore for 7 years and when I found Tenkara, the carry-ability of it was so appealing. I take a few with me everywhere. People look at ya a little crazy when you’re fishing a drainage ditch near the interstate in front of your hotel until you start pulling fish out and then they come over and want to know how you did that! Thanks again! I’m looking forward to seeing the next video with this rod! So nice to have something to want and have to wait for!
Thank you for the review Kris. As an early Mutant owner with a much more modest rod quiver I am curious if there are, and what are situations where you might prefer the Mutant?
I love my mutant… it’s still my favorite DT overall… There’s nothing really that one does that the other won’t. The ice wing has newer materials but I think it comes down to personal preference on the softness of the ice wing as which one someone would prefer.
@@tenkaraonthetrail I have another sort of related question about the color of line you used for the Mutant and prototype rods in the video. Is it just the lighting or is the line color white or possibly Yamatoyo yellow?
Excellent review. I will wait for it. Only have the Talon mini now. Thanks
Your welcome! I have a dragontail affiliate link in the description if you would like to help support my channel at no cost to you. Thank you.
Nice review Kris. Beautiful area that you were fishing. I've never done any alpine lake fishing.
Thanks Dave. Just got back from a week in the mountains!

Thanks Greg. Tough call on choosing one. If you like soft and smooth, the ice wing will be great. I will have some more videos on it soon too.
Nice one...the Mutant was the first Dragontail rod I purchased! I'm currently waiting on the Talon Mini to arrive. Cheers and tight lines!!!
Thank you.
Thanks for the great comparison Kris. That is exactly what I wanted to know. Happy fishing.
Great, thanks Rick.
Thank you for taking the time and putting forth the effort for the great review! Great catches too.
I appreciate it!

Thanks Mitch. I’m in the same boat as far as gravitating towards those softer rods. Just so much fun and effortless to cast.

It must have been the lighting. I was probably using oni orange or pink level line.
Top notch review Kris! I have been thinking of picking up a Mutant but your review solidified waiting on the Icewing, at least for me.
Thanks, can’t go wrong either way really, but the icewing is a touch softer and smoother.
This is my next rod! I’ve been looking for an extra soft rod.
Excellent!
Were you casting 3.5 line or lighter?
3.0
Beautiful cutthroat!!!
Thanks!
