Great to hear Troy talking like the true statesman of the mighty 510. He's earned that position 10X over. 15 years ago, my brother and I bought a Troy Ermish prepped 510 rolling chassis. Back then his shop was in Fremont. We still own that car, and drive that little beast like we stole it.
I raced there in 1985, in SCCA 'improved touring'. I had a Datsun 1200 that I'd fixed up according to the competition book put out by Datsun. It was pretty fast, and I could almost keep up with the 510's, put they were definitely better in the corners. Just before I went to Sears Point I put on a Weber carb, but it really didn't like off-camber right turns, and the engine would cut out for a couple of seconds. Nice track, though.
Yes! Dominated the class and SS. Outlawed the Manta, but allowed the Opel post coupe/2-door. I owned a Manta and a 510, liked them both, but the Manta was clearly superior to the 510 and all the others of the type. 2002_Capri_Celica. Drove them all.
All the Mazda drivers are still celebrating the Easter holiday. they are in the fields eating Dorito chips and looking for plastic Easter eggs, in hopes to find Apex seals in them.. LOL. While they're at it .Maybe they should go to the Alfa Romeo team and ask them if they can spare a few extra gallons of gasoline!😂😂 reply if you know what I'm talking about..
@@davidvega6215 yes we know... but the Alfa boys were/are the ones who cried/cry the most against the RXs. 🥲🤣 in the class... But back to the serious question, why are there no RE runners in this race/class? Are they allowed?
510's are easily upgraded to be monsters on the track or in pro rallys, excellent handling ,light weight , powerful ,easily worked on ,stuff available ..AVAILABLE and AFFORDABLE .
What a drag Murry in 88 came in too hot, lock up a wheel, lost a position then got messed up in traffic, lost another only to lose to 3rd behind by a second......that's got to hurt. It's one thing to lose to power but to mistakes, it drives you bonkers, it drove me bonkers anyways.
Mom had a 2 door blue 510 manual with black 4 spoke rims in the 70's until it was stolen. I really miss that car!

My era of watching racing in my 20's.Hocinhiem,Nurungburg Ring,Spa in Belgium when I was stationed st Weisbaden.
Amazing sedan Datsun 510, I missed her.
Glad I got to drive 510 back in day early 70s, girl's mom's car, expected nothing found to be good little sports car.

The 1900 Opel mantas in the USA used to flog the datsuns on a regular basis. They raced E stock until the SCCA outlawed the opels for being to fast.

Best place to watch the races at Sonoma is turn 9, you can see almost of the entire track.
Good race but you need to move the camera so you can see who crossed the finish line.
Where are all of the Mazda RXs (RX-2s & RX-3s)??

An Opel Manta would have owned that race.

Very little commentary about the actual race...just bragging about which cars you owned or restored...bloody awful guys 😕🙄

Malkhassian is a beast.
I guess the Jensen Healey didn’t show up or broke down. 😂 it would have lapped this field.
Poisoned Datsun
