Thank you so much! I first went to Hawaii in 1970. These videos remind me of a much slower and lovelier island. I especially appreciated the footage of Kailua and the Pali. Thanks again! Great job!
I see there is some footage of the old Pali Road and the Mormon Temple in Laie. My mother told tales of going over the Pali in a Model T Ford where all the kids had to hold on to the cloth top as the car moved or the wind would tear it off the car.
@ 0:49 those cars moving are actually using the old Pali road, before the tunnel and modern Pali hwy was built many years later. The Pali road was built directly on the old Pali footpath trail built in the ancient days; it was the only way to make it across the mountains, else you had to take the much longer route around the island. You can still walk down this road, though it is in really bad shape now.
Actually, from 1:41 to 1:45, they're traveling SW toward Waimanalo from Maunawili along the Kalanianiole Highway. The silouette of the Ko'olau Mtns to the right of the screen and the Keolu Hills on the left side. The grassy patch you see in the center of the frame is not the Kawainui Marsh where KDI and the Quarry once was, but, instead, the future home of the Olomana Golf Course.
Fake 1940 is why we came to the sight before the War? Deception on the web is the worst American feature of these BS films with 1968 guitar music - not really authentic.

I guess you would rather have silent, as there was no sound on these old films.
