- This 2019 journey on the Chinese Train of the Trans-Siberian Express crossed Siberia, then traversed Mongolia stopping at Ulaanbaatar, and finally arrived at Beijing after five days and 5000 miles (8000 km). We spent a few days in Moscow at the Metropol Hotel visiting a number of important sites including Gorky Park, the Grave of the Unknown Soldier, the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour, and the Novodevichy Cemetery. We departed Moscow's Yaroslavsky's Station in the evening. We stayed in two First Class cabins which had an adjoining shower room. All the videos and photos were taken by Christopher Seppala, and the music playing in the background from time-to-time was for my own entertainment only. Whilst the changing landscape over the fine days will interest everyone, (the endless Siberian forests, small towns and large cities, Lake Baikal, the Gobi Desert and the wonders of China,) train and railway enthusiasts will enjoy the many occasions on which we stopped at stations, passed other trains, saw many sidings filled with rolling stock and engines, sped under electrified cabling, and viewed the many users of Russia's extensive and important railways. You will also see glimpses of the interior and exterior of the Express and the number of different engines that pulled the carriages through three quite different countries. The whole journey will be divided into a number of parts, of which this Perm to Barabinsk is the second.
I had forgotten how many trees there are in Siberia! Was that Shostakovich at the end of the video?
